Colonoscopy

Hi every one I’m due for a colonoscopy on Tuesday I’m feeling really scared don’t really feel.upto the procedure as I really suffer with stress and anxiety but I know I need to do this  I have been feeling as if I need to poo but some times it’s just reddish pus and feeling very gassy but because of feeling I need to poo I’m always in the bathroom , been having problems for a while now. I thought maybe I just had internal piles but when I went to my gp doctor couldn’t see or feel any thing so did a fit test which came back positive  so I was referred for a colonoscopy  I’m so scared of having cancer  not looking forward to the bowel prep  I think your all a lot braver than me   Xx

Parents
  • I had a colonoscopy some years ago and was utterly terrified before it.

GP couldn't see or feel anything with me either but it did turn out to be piles. Nurse said that wasn't unusual, for them not to be noticed.

    Hope you get good news

  • Thank you. I’m starting the prep tomorrow I’m dreading every thing about it my nerves are in pieces  my blood pressure was highly when I went for the face to face yesterday he had to take it three times it went down but still on high side  really can’t get my anxiety under control

  • Mine has been fast tracked, I've got stage 4 and spread to my liver, I've had it for 6-12 months, it's treatable they said, did have another mri on liver and full body scan 3 days ago, they not to worried about liver as they can zap it

9 months of treatment, hopefully no more bad news with other scans, I feel "normal" though, so so strange

Done the bowel screening test a few months ago too, no further investigation they said

Onwards and upwards hope it's good news for you all️

  • Readytobeat, I love your determination and attitude. Truly inspiring to read on a morning like this.

I wish you all the very best in your treatment and am praying for your swift recovery

  • Thank you, thinking of you James x let us know how you get on

  • Hello Readyto beat. I've posted it elsewhere on here, but not good news. They found a not-small rectal tumour so it's cancer (or99%) per the colonoscopist.

They did seem to say it should be treatable and curable, but also there need to be scans etc. There was talk that they'd need to see if it had spread and if so that would likely mean chemo and radio. I think they suggested it could likely be treated, but

    I'm so scared

It's not small, so it may well have been there for months. I feel so stupid I didn't do more tests back in the summer when I was diagnosed anemic.

  • ️ I was told straight away mine was malignant x mine has been there for a year x spread to my liver too x told its treatable x had a call today I start my treatment Friday x mine was fast tracked I had my colonosphy 1st Dec x chin up we've got this x ️ ️

I️️spent 11 days worrying and I cried loads but I'm. Going to take it on the chin x we'll beat it x

  • Oh goodness, a year?

So happy yours is treatable. I have been immediately worried that because mine isn't small it may have been there ages and therefore spread and have become top complex.

I imagine every case is unique,  but your example gives me hope.

Right now I'm struggling to remain calm. I know my anxiety is making me ill. I am struggling to eat. Just about getting 1k calories. I suppose that's not unusual. Especially as I only had the procedure today so feel a bit tender everywhere

  • I struggled too, I spent 2 weeks after my colonosphy just breaking down, I needed to know what was going on inside my body, I needed answers there and then but they had to do more scans, ive had 4 in total, still waiting for the results on my liver scan

Once I had the diagnosis I felt "relieved"

I knew what was going to happen and what treatment I was to have

Had a call 2 days ago to go for more blood tests and I start my treatment tomorrow

It's hard not to worry, if you need to cry, bloody cry

Hope you don't have to wait too much longer xx

The waiting is the worst, but I've now got to be positive xx

I do have a lot of support from my family, and my best friend, that has helped me too

  • Thank you as ever for sharing. Yes the unknowns must be hard for everyone. And i am someone who struggles with things I can't influence (not in a horrible, manipulative way :) )

The colonoscopist told me right away it was cancer, so at least I didn't have to wait on that. The tests are now booked. CT Scan on Monday 13th..MRI on Sat 11th, so I guess as fast as they could realistically be? My wife has been amazing- she chased up radiology to get an appointment. After the initial shock (I told her immediately) for us both, she is being an incredible rock and a force of nature. I am blessed.

I'll keep trying to follow your example and advice, and hopefully get more determined each day.

I hope your treatment starts well tomorrow. Are you having chemo initially? Ill be thinking of you and praying for you.

    James

  • Yes chemo starts tomorrow, think it's 6 sessions, then radiotherapy, operation then more Chemo,

It's seems ages away from 1st December when I had my colonosphy to tomorrow when I start my Chemo, seems so unreal as I feel "normal"

Won't tell you not to worry as that's all I did until I had my first outpatients appointment when I was told everything, it's gets a bit "better" then as  you know what treatment you will have xxx

  • Positive46  hi I’m waiting for more tests I’m scared also  been looking at scans. Why do they always have to put dye inside you I hate things like that the scan I will be having does that I think we go through enough  hate been messed with

  • The contrast ( dye) is essential to determine correct diagnosis,  used in many investigations.. I'm sure the staff will offer care and understanding to you during the process

  •  HI  TANGOPOTTER, JUST HAD A CALLFROM HOSPITAL TO SAY MY APPT  FOR RESULTS IS NEXT WEDNESDAY NOW  I AM  A REAL BAG OF NERVES, I KNOW THE TUMOR IS 4CM AND ALL I DO IS  KEEP GOING ON GOOGLE AND  READING THE WORST  HAVE NEVER BEEN SO TERRIFIED

  • I think we are all guilty of Googling,  when sometimes it can be amazing,  at others it can be overwhelming and terrifying.. Wednesday,  although it feels so long to wait,  will arrive and you will get the answers and hopefully a plan for treatment... do you have someone to talk to, speaking our fears out loud, although it makes them 'real' it gives us the opportunity and ability to express our emotions,  important for our wellbeing.. hopefully you have someone to go to the appt with you.. having care and support is so important.. thinking of you and sending

  • I have had cancer scares but I don't know what it feels like to be given a positive diagnosis however everyone I've spoken to considers the scanxiety and waiting for treatment plans amongst the most difficult periods of a cancer journey. My partner coped better once he knew what he was tackling. There'll still be wobbles and treatment can be physically demanding but psychologically the waiting is really hard. I wish you all, all of you, the best of outcomes and I hope you all have good support. I'm sorry your health has brought you here. It's really *** xx

  • Poitive46 you are bound to be a bag of nerves only natural while waiting for these kind of results  I’m like you I keep going on mr google not always a good idea  but that kept me going and believing I had internal piles which turned out not the case for me  I’m also terrrified of my out come  I keep trying to push it at the back of my mind but it’s always there  my tumour is a little bit larger than yours so we are all bound to be nervous and scared x

  • Lyns21...a beautiful and very appropriate post, I agree with you completely the waiting time has such an impact on body and soul.. I need answers,  I can deal with facts, I can focus on options and make my decision..but the waiting is beyond my control and I have to be in control..

Sad that health issues have united us here.. but shared care, support and understanding can hopefully give us the strength so important for us all xx
