Hard to accept - have the all clear for anal cancer. I should be happy but can't get my head around it not being there anymore. Has anyone else felt this way?

  • Hello Kelly

I totally relate. And also with Ady.

I had major surgery, chemo before and after, ileostomy and reversal. Just had 6m CT and bloods, which oncologist was happy with. Tomorrow is the dreaded colonoscopy. About to start the bowel prep. Going to be a rough 24 hours and I'm just paralysed by the possibility the surgeon finds some recurrence  even though all signs have been good.

Bowels are still adjusting following reversal but gradually improving.

Like others have said, it's hard to return to normal. I think, for me, it's the trauma of it all. It's changed how I see things and has knocked my confidence. I am so grateful to have got through it all so far and for the amazing medical care I've had. But coping with recovery is really hard.
