Hard to accept - have the all clear for anal cancer. I should be happy but can't get my head around it not being there anymore. Has anyone else felt this way?

Hi I was diagnosed with with anal cancer march last year I’ve had a colostomy and had radiotherapy and chemotherapy I’ve recently had my results back and it’s all clear I should be happy I thank god I’m still here but in my can’t get my head around it’s not there anymore and I think too it’s gonna be bad news every time I go to hospital appointments i have anxiety and depression and dread the next hospital appointment do others feel this way

  • Hi I’m new here, but I can relate to how you’re feeling. I was given the all clear from breast cancer in April, but my goodness the emotions were something else! Firstly I was happy obviously, but then I started feeling guilty, my eldest daughter got diagnosed last year with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, so for me to be okay was so hard to wrap my head round, when she’s living with it (mum guilt). Also I had the thoughts of “will everyone expect me to just get on with life now” “will everyone who said they were there for me just disappear again” “how do I move on from having had cancer”  “will it come back?” It was certainly a mixed bag. I have started having counselling with a specialist cancer counsellor and I’ve only had a couple of sessions so far but it is helping.
