Husband newly diagnosed

Hi all, my husband has recently been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer.  He is in the process of having  scans to determine if the cancer has spread.  His Glesson score was 9. the urologist said he needs the prostate removed and the radiotherapy, but if it has spread they will rethink his treatment.  I am going out of my mind with worry, I think it's because everything is unclear at the moment.  I hope it will get easier when we know if the operation is going ahead.  Lolly.

  • Hi Lollipop,

Sorry about your news, but like  Brian said,it will get easier, the. cancer In my lymph nodes can't be cured b. but it can be kept under control,so try to stay positive, like my oncologist told me,try to live life as normal as you can.you will have your good day's and bad,but stay strong.

    Hope all goes well,take care.

  • Hi Lollypop, Glad hubby is feeling a little better.  Numb legs/ thighs does not sound normal post op pain. Could be a trapped nerve but  -  don't wish to scare you both but is your hubby still on DVT post op prevention?  The execise will help with this. Might be a good idea to get this checked out before Tues.

Sorry to be so bossy, just a thought.

    Take care, gardenlady.

  • Hi Lolly

Just wanted to pop onto your thread and wish you both a peaceful weekend.  Hoping that the day to day improvement continues and not surprised your husband felt better for getting a little fresh air.  Alittle exercise a good idea but think like gardenlady has said it would  be worth mentioning new 'numbing' sensation to his medical team and maybe a phone call before the weekend arrives would be a an option pre Tuesday (could alleviate worrying over the weekend too).   Take care both of you.Jules x

  • Hi all, we have been to the hospital today. Catheter is out, hubby feels much better even though he is not in control as yet.  He had an ultrasound scan which showed a small build up of fluid in the groin at the site were most of his pain is.  He will have to wait to speak to urologist tomorrow to see if he needs a drain put in . Hope not but if he does need it he will cope.  Should know results from the tissues and lymph node removal next week..... Fingers crossed.  Lolly x

  • Hi Lolly

Thanks for update and hope appointment tomorrow with consultant will resolve the  fluid retention problem for your husband.  Sounds like he is coping well and no doubt very relieved to get the catheter removed. Hope you will receive best possible news from the results next week.  Virtual fingers will be crossed for you both.  Jules x

  • Hi Lollypop, So glad you have got to the bottom of hubby's pain. Hopfully he'll get sorted tomorrow and things will be more comfortable for him.

The control situation may take several weeks. The pelvic floor exercises help to improve things.  My hubby found drinking coffee and to some extent tea did not help matters.  He is fine  now.

Fingers crossed  for good results next week. Take care, gardenlady.

  • Hi Lolly,
Just wondering how are thing going for you and hubby?
Thinking of you and sending you a virtual hug

  • Hi all Its been a while, just thought I would give you an update on my hubbies progress.  Unfortunately John has gone back into hospital today for a little Operation.  He has not been good since day one after the op. but the hospital found out yesterday that he had a blockage so that's why he has been having trouble with his water works. Hopefully he will start to feel better now.  He. Is also suffering with pin & needles and a dead leg.  Doctor thinks it's nerve damage which is irreversible, plus lymphoma in the other leg due to the large amount of lymph nodes that were removed during the removal of this prostrate and surrounding tissue.  But even with all these little setbacks he is still very positive, and hopefully when he has his next PSA test things are still looking good.  Regards Lolly.

  • Hi Lolly

Thanks for the update and hope that after the op John will feel more comfortable.  Fingers crossed for the psa results in due course. Regards and vitual hugs. Jules

  • Hi  Lolly,
