Paget's disease

Hi everyone

I have been experiencing severe itching in my left breast (nipple area) for a few weeks . And both breast are very swollen, sore and tender (not unusual for me)

but the left moreso.

i have no rash or other symptoms apart from lumpy nipple ducts at bottom of breast. I have no rash /scaling or bleeding or discharge . I had mammogram , ultra sound both showed no lumps but an area of dense tissue underneath the nipple area where I am itching . I have biopsy this week.

Extremely worried it could be inflammatory breast cancer or pagets has anyone else experienced this ?

as it appears to be quite rare . Any advice would be welcome thank you for reading xx

  • Hello, I initially went to see my doctor ref a breast lump ( which did turn out to be cancer) but funnily enough my left nipple had been itching for a good few weeks so I mentioned that too, I had also read about pagets and had convinced myself I had it!  But 3 mammograms and an ultrasound later proved not ( thank goodness)  I googled pictures of pagets and mine didn't look anything like them....no rash( except where I had been scratching) no discharge....nothing.....it was a relief to have The tests.....the biopsy I found completely painless....is it a core biopsy your having? Let us know what happens? Fingers crossed everything is ok...xxxx

  • Hi Marlyn,

thank you you so much for replying x I’m having a punch biopsy I think , just no idea what’s going on and it’s all such a minefield I can’t keep off internet which is driving me just as mad as the itching ha x how are you getting on now ? Xx

  • I had my lumpectomy on Thursday and recovering pretty well, I won't know exactly what my treatment plan is for another 2 weeks.....isn't the waiting agonising??? I really do try and stay off evil dr google, it gets me more and more worked up! Yes, the itching can be intense, my chemical gave me a steroid cream which helped enormously, but you mustn't use it for more than a week....the NHS have been fantastic as far as I'm concerned...you couldn't be in better hands xxxx

  • Hi,

I was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer on Wednesday last week. I started off with itching of both nipples, then over a short time the right breast became swollen and sore to touch. I had my tests mid December (mammogram, biopsy, ultrasound) then had the long wait over Christmas for the results. I am booked in for the CT and Bone scans tomorrow to check for spread. I have been told that for IBC, I have to have chemotherapy first and that will start the week after next.

I hope your biopsy goes well and that you get the results quickly. Stay positive. I have tried to keep busy and maintain a positive mindset, which has helped and hopefully will continue to help me over the coming weeks!

    Take Care,

    Michelle X

  • It's a shock isn't it...I sat there not believing my ears....I will be keeping everything crossed for you....this forum has been my sanity....xxxx

  • Hi Marlyn,

It is, but tbh I had been on google so much over Christmas I thought it was IBC! When the consultant told me I said that I knew it was, he seemed surprised as if someone had already told me. Your don't look at Dr Google is good advice. Since last week I have only looked at this forum as it wouldn't take much for me to link every ache or twinge with the BC diagnosis. This website has been invaluable for my sanity. X

  • Ahh Marlyn ,

thank you so much again for your reply , I must admit I didn’t expect any so it’s just so reassuring to know others are there and going through same process x

2 weeks seems an age to wait for your plan. But you are right I must stay off the evil internet or that will drive me mad ! Take it easy, keep busy busy  and please keep us updated with your treatment xxx

    take care sending hugs x

  • Hi Michelle x

thank k you so much for replying and sharing your story with us x an incredibly worrying time . It sounds as though your treatment is moving quickly which has to be good news x

i too have convinced myself this is what I have - they haven’t given me any other alternatives - I’m just so confused as I have no other symptoms apart from soreness, swelling and lumps underneath the nipple in the milk ducts I really have no idea  -  hopefully biopsy won’t take long to come back .

Best of luck for tomorrow - one day at a time is all

we can do please keep us posted x lots of love to you xxx

  • Terrible shock and you just can’t belive it :( I came out of ultrasound feeling reasonably OK , the next day was worse x keeping  on this wonderful forum and off internet can only be a good thing - as I for one already feel so much better just speaking to you both ! Take care xxx

  • We prop each other up! Xxx
