8cm Complex Ovarian Cyst with CA125 of 51 - Absolutely terrified!!

I posted on here a few days ago after I found out unexpectedly that I had a large complex ovarian cyst. The consultant thinks it could a dermoid cyst but can't determine this for sure and is sending me for an MRI scan. In the meantime, my CA125 has come back raised at 51!!! I'm postmenopausal which just adds even more risk into the mix and I just feel like the odds are stacking up against me. I've had no symptoms and only got checked out because of a tiny amount of postmenopausal bleeding. I'm all over the place.

  • Hi all hope you are all doing ok. Quick update from me I am day 2 post op home and recovering. They managed to get Samantha out by keyhole thank goodness she was actually 15cm and made of 2 dermoid cysts. She was stuck to my pelvic wall and my c section scars and had started to leak. She was mainly fluid and hair and been sent off to histology now to check. Can’t thank the NHs enough tbh they have been great. Fingers crossed for the histology being clear. Thanks again for everyone’s support x

  • Oh so glad you're home post op! Samantha was a bit cheeky having a secret 2nd Samantha in there too.

    Aren't bodies so weird?!

Got everything crossed your histology is clear and you find out asap.

I'm one week post my first chemo cycle now and finally starting to feel human. It's been a weird week of feeling very unattached to myself but I've managed a couple of walks out, lots of rest and I'm enjoying food again. Couple of weeks now til the next go x

  • Hello! Sorry for the delay. I'm half way through my chemo so 3 more to go! I'll stay on avastin though every 3 weeks for another 9 cycles then maintenance drugs.

Today I got good news that my tumours have shrunk by 50%!! I'm so pleased it's working and it almost makes the side effects bearable!

  • Yes me too! Just had my 6th and hopefully last chemo after a rubbish 2025! So going for a better 2026 … wishing you all the very best too for 2026 xx

  • I'm relieved to read about the reduction! Happy new year xx

  • Happy new year, hope it wards off the bad.  Thinking of you all going through treatment xx

  • That’s wonderful news that your tumours have shrunk 50%, long may that continue!
What are your side affects? I hope you aren’t still feeling very unwell xx

  • I mainly suffer with the peripheral neuropathy and terrible constipation! I've been lucky to not have mouth issues or skin issues, it's all been digestion related.

But I've been active in life when I am able to. I've had a little break away, I've enjoyed Christmas and I've been out for meals.

I had a short spell in hospital with no immune system after the first round but now I have injections to prevent that from happening and I've been fine since.

I'll have two infusion days in Jan then the last one in Feb woohoo!

  • Don’t… mine has been awful after every chemo… laxido is my new best friend!

  • How is everyone? Been too long! How did your infusions go? Last time you messaged tumours were shrinking. Are you keeping ok?x

  • Hello!

I just got home from my last chemo.woohoo!

Had another hospital stay with my last cycle so delayed a week. Thankfully still finished in February though.

I'll have a scan in March to see how it's doing and carry on with Avastin for another 9 cycles every 3 weeks. That won't be as brutal as chemo tho!

    How are you doing? X

  • Oh congrats on your last chemo! So glad you finished in feb though, that must feel great to have got through that. I hope you have some lovely things lined up to treat yourself now.

everything fine here, my surgery adhesions are causing quite an annoyance with causing bleeding between periods etc but all in all I certainly can’t complain. Just looking forward to being discharged from gynae. The amount of people who have inspected my vagina in the last year is crazy. Hahaha.

hope you get great news in march on the scan. Keep us updated please. I think of you all often! X

  • Thank you!

I'm looking forward to my body being my own again. And eating rare steak, runny eggs and fermented foods again!

Hope you get discharged sooner rather than later x

  • Hello how are you? I have been thinking of you all. You had a scan in march and I think in cycles of avastin. How is it going? Hope you are doing ok and been enjoying life x

  • Hello!

Good to hear from you - hope are you doing now?

I sought a second opinion with Imperial and had surgery in April so I'm recovering from that. But it was a great success and they removed the tumour plus told me that the chemo had continued to work to remove all cancer cells!

So I'm waiting to heal before I restart Avastin in a month or so. I'll be on that for 6-7 cycles.

Sadly life has been cruel and my wife has left me, found someone new and is trying to force me to sell the house. So it's all a big mess and I'm so exhausted with it.

  • Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry to read this. As if life isn’t hard enough and now having to go through this. That really is rotten and I am sending you big hugs.
I’ve been through divorce and was made homeless many moons ago with my son so I know what you are going through somewhat, I really hope your wife is not going to be cruel considering your health.
In great news though it sounds like you have been really turning a corner with your health, that all sounds wonderful. Removing the rumour and reduction of cancel cells. I’m presuming that’s not a clean bill of health as it sounds though if you are still getting cycles of avastin? Thank god for your second option!

I am fine thank you, I’m still not discharged from gynae as my random bleeding and spotting has continued since my surgery a year ago. Since it’s not sinister then everything is taking forever, which in some ways I am very grateful but would be good to see someone. I think I may need a further operation but I am turning 40 in the next few months so I have a big trip booked so hoping it doesn’t come around then!

  • I'm sorry to read this. Glad your health seems to be rounding a corner though x

  • She isn't being particularly kind put it that way!

Thankfully I've been able to stay with my parents a bit whilst recovering but they live a four hour drive away.

Because my cancer was high risk I continue with avastin as maintenance for the full year of cycles so I'll be on it up until October. At the moment I'm NED so here's hoping it stays that way

Urgh it's so frustrating how slow things get in the NHS once you're out of the immediate emergency timelines. I hope they see you soon and you get some answers x

  • I'm sorry she's being rough with you. I just hope with everything in my being your cancer journey is coming to the best possible conclusion at the very least. I am surprised by how many relationships breakdown through cancer buy it's a fraught time and we're not all up to it. I hope for you to have more secure times ahead in health, wealth and love x

  • Health wise that’s just great, so glad for you that you are NED. Hope the avastin is ok. Do you get side affects from it? Hopefully not.

hope you are managing to look after yourself during your break up. That’s ever so difficult for you.x

  • Hi there how did they remove your cyst?
