8cm Complex Ovarian Cyst with CA125 of 51 - Absolutely terrified!!

I posted on here a few days ago after I found out unexpectedly that I had a large complex ovarian cyst. The consultant thinks it could a dermoid cyst but can't determine this for sure and is sending me for an MRI scan. In the meantime, my CA125 has come back raised at 51!!! I'm postmenopausal which just adds even more risk into the mix and I just feel like the odds are stacking up against me. I've had no symptoms and only got checked out because of a tiny amount of postmenopausal bleeding. I'm all over the place.

  • I just have the one incision. It's starts about 2 inches below my belly button and stops at my bikini line. I think I'd have healed faster if my kids had been a bit older and had understood that they couldn't pull me about straight away. You could probably function well enough after a week as long as you don't over exert yourself. It's not too different to having a cesarean and people have to look after newborns straight after that.

  • I called today just to see where I am on the waiting list and she said they had just scheduled me a meeting with the gynae in clinic on 10th march. So not long! No idea when I’ll be in for surgery after then. Waiting game. X

  • Thank you that’s really helpful. I guess whatever way they get it out I’ll be grateful to have it gone. Sometimes I get so much pressure pain from it. I can’t wait to not have that!

  • That's good to know. I feel like our appointments and results have come at roughly the same time so far, so I'm hopeful now that I might also be seen in March to discuss what needs to be done! X

  • Hello!

Thought I'd add my update after piggy backing on this thread earlier.

I had a PET scan in December which did show active cells.

On 8th Jan I had a laproscopy to try and remove the mass but that was unsuccessful due to adhesions.

So on 11th February I had major open surgery where they were able to biopsy it and remove a fair chunk.

They removed a mass about the side of a matchbox but I found out yesterday there were no cancerous cells in it at all!!

The surgeons had been so sure it was cancer I expected to be told about further treatment yesterday. But I've been told no cancer!

I'll have repeated scans for 3, 6, 12, 24 months just to make sure nothing sinister grows back.

I hope you are both ok and get your good results soon too x

  • I'm so glad they didn't discover anything sinister and I'm glad that they're being cautious and giving you regular follow ups. You must be so relieved

  • That's such great news you must be very relieved ,did they say what happened to the active cells ,I'd be wondering if it was me ,but well done you for getting through all that with a good outcome .

  • Yeah so I had a huge amount of inflammation where the nodular cyst couldn't break out of all the adhesions I have in my pelvis from 2013 surgery. It's a mess in there apparently. They had 3 Professors check it as they were so surprised but it always came back clear!

  • So the PET scan showed partial uptake at the time, and they have said that was due to the inflammation. Even bleeding cysts can glow on a PET scan so you can get false positives.

  • You can't get better than 3 Professors checking for you , they will understand much more than we ever will and its amazing they've given you the all clear ,and also that they will be checking for any signs of anything wrong ,Its so good to hear a good outcome story .
