Post Menopausal Bleeding

I am 65 and had an early menopause at about 45. I have had 3 episodes of some post menopausal bleeding over the last 2 months. It’s been very light, and just been a one off thing each time. I have a cervical smear test booked for the week after next . I’m wondering if I should chat to my GP before that though? Also I feel bloated, but I’m not sure if that’s just psychological!

  • Hi, I am in a similar situation, age 56,  GP concerned with bleeding since changes to HRT ( to progesterone only from combined patches),after almost a year of no period.Had Ultrasound scan Tuesday, shows thickened lining, now awaiting urgent Gynae appointment within next few weeks.Am obviously worried about outcomes but also glad that it's all being dealt with quickly, it's all a bit overwhelming tbh.

  • My story is identical to yours. I should have had my hysteroscopy on 29th but my anxiety was through the roof so consultant asked me if I preferred general aesthetic. I jumped at the chance. Now I am waiting for a pre op appt and a telephone call for appt to have the hysteroscopy and biopsy done. It’s very overwhelming but reassuring that things are happening quickly.

  • Thank you Ainberlin. Yes I’m driving myself and trying to second guess everything. Will be glad to be out of that ‘limbo’ mode as you say! X

  • Just wanting to send you all best for Friday, you have done the best you can now its time to see what the medics have to say.

Others on here have had positive experiences, si we just have to hand ourselves over to them, do as advised, and do the best for ourselves.

I've been helped by simple meditation...not forced or complicated.

  • Thank you Scarycat99. I am petrified for Friday. Didn’t sleep well last night and don’t expect I will tonight. I’m convincing myself I have some abdominal pain which I know is probably psychological. I’m glad your situation was relatively easy to fix and I do hope you are doing well.

  • Hey there, it's OK to feel not OK...and your gut knows this.  The abdominal pain most probably is your gut...is has brain cells, it knows somethings up. And as far as Friday is concerned, be kind to yourself, go slowly about your day today.  Common things ate common...you can do this, we are all routing for you.  After you've had your appointment if you need to talk to someone experienced, you can always contact Eve Apeal who have experienced nurses.  Just thought I'd mention this Xx

  • Thank you so much Scarycat59. X

  • I too, have been helped by a very simple guided meditation exercise ( it’s in Spanish, otherwise I’d share it with you). I went through quite bad dizziness and anxiety, still do to some extent, but have found calm and looking inward to be a great help.
My results have come back negative, so miracles are possible, keep the faith and stay strong.

  • Oh, that's really good to hear.  Yes, meditation really works and allows the brain to put things in order.  I find when I'm anxious everything gets jumbled up and I can't rationalise properly while my thoughts are racing at the speed of knots.  So, yes I can't say enough about how much this helps.

It's great your results came back negative.  People like us who keep an eye on our health, attend tests promptly are more likely to not miss much.  But hey, we know our bodies, we know in our heart of hearts we're ok, scans have showed nothing obvious so our brain needs to communicate all is well with our body.  And yes, keep the faith and stay strong xx

  • Happy for you that results are negative.I have also found meditation and mindfulness really useful in the past , must get back in to it .
