Post Menopausal Bleeding

I am 65 and had an early menopause at about 45. I have had 3 episodes of some post menopausal bleeding over the last 2 months. It’s been very light, and just been a one off thing each time. I have a cervical smear test booked for the week after next . I’m wondering if I should chat to my GP before that though? Also I feel bloated, but I’m not sure if that’s just psychological!

  • Hi..I had a bleed at 56 after 5 years in menopause, only a light bleed, I had been suffering bloating constipation and tiredness. I was put on a 2 week pathway only cos of the bleed, sadly although hospital were brill and everything moved at fast pace, I was diagnosed 1a grade 3 endometrial.

full hysterectomy and am now 3 and 1/2 years into things, every 6 months check up. but a bleed does not always mean cancer, so try not to overthink things xx I’ve had 2 friends and 1 sister all have same thing and they were all clear no cancer. Very easy to go the panic route, I was soooo bad for Google that I’m sure I could be a nurse now lol, if I could recommend 1 thing to all the ladies going through this ..stay away from Google search, all paths lead to worst case senario, wait till u know what what dealing with. Good luck to u all xx

  • Mario, thanks so much for sharing and very good advice to stay away from Google.  It's good to hear that they are doing 6 monthly check ups to make sure all is ok with you and presumably the frequency will drop off over time all being well.  My fingers are firmly crossed for you.

I'm trying to work out what the timing could be if it turns out I need a hysterectomy as I'm very keen not to impact my children's school holidays and looking at the NHS targets of urgent referral to treatment of 62 days, that comes in the last week of the holidays, so fingers crossed. Thanks again for sharing. xx

  • Once I was staged in February, I had hysterectomy 4 weeks later, and although was out of hospital 24 hours later took me 3/4 weeks to get back on my feet. I then had brachertherapy as was grade 3, 4 weeks after this, but I still went to work with this.

everything moves fast once have diagnosis, my fingers are crossed that your hysterscopy gives you an all clear.. so easy to panic, I still do now but hopefully you get the answers fast.. took me 10 days for results after this procedure just to makes aware it’s still a wait xx good luck xx

  • Hi Mario11, it's good to hear a balanced view on this forum.  I have had PMB for 1 week, a month ago I changed from oestrogel to evorel 100 patches and increased my Utrogestan to 200mg as advised by y GP.  I went back to the GP last week, she took a swab, which came back normal.  GP also sent 2Week wait referral to Gynaecologist, it was rejected, I have complained to the hospital who have fed b k up PALs and now it seems the referral possibly being reconsidered.  Reason the referral was rejected was that they said I have to stop my HRT before going on the 2 week wait.  I've arranged an Ult sound privately in The meantime.  My last one was November 2023 and endometrium was 3.6mm, all else normal.  All Doctors have said the bleed is dur to change in HRT.  Still I worry, which is normal, ut I'm trying to do all the things you do to carry on.  Dr 'Google' is no help at all, but I've fallen into this in a vain attempt to prepare myself for any other diagnosis.  Any kind words to someo like me suffering with health anxiety would be gratefully relieved
