Doctors referral says suspected breast cancer

I posted earlier about concerns around Pagets / breast cancer and am struggling to not panic. I have just opened up my doctors app to check my referral letter has been sent and the GP has put me on the urgent 2WW but has written, “suspected breast cancer.”

Now I’m extremely stressed. In this a normal thing for them to write for the two week wait ?

This is all so frightening

  • Hi L.Water

A very warm welcome to our forum
I am sorry to hear that you find yourself in this unenviable position too.  This is always a worrying time. None of us are very good at dealing with so many unknowns. Irrespective of the outcome, it becomes easier once you know what you are dealing with. It is not unusual to want your partner with you. This is not being "dramatic" at all. Many of us need that extra support.

If it is of any interest to you, not all lumps are cancerous. Many turn out to be benign cysts, fibroadenoma, or due to hormonal changes. It is a fact that only 20% of those referred to the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis, so here's hoping that you'll b one of the lucky ones!

I sincerely hope that all goes well for you tomorrow.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello..please don't be sorry .i jumped on too! I think sometimes it's the best way when you find something relevant. Ive my appointment at the clinic tomorrow too. What region are you in, if you dint mind me asking? Did you manage to go through the NHS? You kust be feeling allsorts this evening! We are here for you to sound off, rant, anything! They are extremely worrying times and no one understands, I dont think, unless they are going through the same thing. I think it's hard for others to fully understand but I'm hoping that your partner is very supportive. Lean on them... For dome reason, ive decided to go on my own. When im having a panic/anxiety attack, i find it easier to calm down if no one is with me. Thinking of you. What time is your appointment? Xx

  • Hi Dannii,

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and I sincerely hope that all turns out well.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you so much, Jolamine xx

  • Good luck L Water I really hope you get good news. Your partner will probably have to wait around a bit as it normally takes 2-3 hours with the different tests etc. you could always ask them to bring a big coffee and call them in if you think it’s going to be difficult. When I went previously for breast thickening the surgeon told me instantly that she didn’t think it was anything to worry about but still had all the tests to confirm. This time I don’t think it’s going to be quite so easy. I’ve never felt so frightened . Really hope you get on ok

  • Sending love for tomorrow L.water. Your not being dramatic in the slightest to want support.  xx

  • Hi I'm in NW in the lakes, I've been once before a couple of years ago and was made to feel very much like a time waster so my main anxiety atm is that again and the reason why I want my partner witme, but again in Mt gut it just feels different this time. I dont believe mine is a "one stop" clinic either due to staffing issues so I know im not getting anywhere today other than "yes we will se an appointment for further checks through the post" it's all very unsettling I hope everyone's appointments go OK. Mines at 10am I just want it all done with I've had nothing but fear and panic for weeks now

  • Good luck L Water I hope you have a better experience this time. It’s madness that they aren’t doing the same day tests. It’s got to be easier on appointments, quicker diagnosis and treatments and a better outcome.
I was fortunate and when I went previously I was able to use my husbands health insurance and went private. They were so so lovely and it really does make the experience less stressful. The consultant said you will have every test you need today and whatever the outcome we will look after you and gave me a big hug.

i think I’m probably better off holding out for my private appointment as can’t handle the stress of going back and forth. Well im hoping that’s what she is still doing in a one stop clinic but they are over run too so maybe not.

good luck, please let us know how you get on xx

  • Morning L Water,

So sorry to hear you were made to feel like that...and in all the situations where that shouldn't happen, that eas kost definitely ine of them. Ive been made to feel like that too, when having certain tests at hospital and eas shocked that that was the message they gave out. Please rest assured not all people are like that though and i know there are some amazing hospital staff out there too. I'll be thinking of you at 10 and sending positive thoughts. I was going to go on my own today but been so sick from the panic that ive asked my partner to come too.

We are here if you need us at anytime.

    Hugs,

    Dannii xx
