Endometrial cancer diagnosis

Hi,

I just thought I would drop in and say hello I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer on Monday 30th December. All I was told is that and that I had to have a ct scan the following day, my notes say probable hysterectomy with nodes which i didnt read until today. I don't know how to feel other than being scared,  telling my family was very hard as I feel like I've let them all down. I just thought I would introduce myself and see if anyone else is going through something similar.

  • Hello Clair1980,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum - it is normal to be scared after getting the news and you only found out a few days ago so all this takes a little bit of time to sink in and you are bound to have questions racing through your mind at the moment especially as this is still a time of uncertainty when you will be needing more tests like the CT scan and there is also the question of the hysterectomy which you have read in your notes.

As you are bound to have a lot of unanswered questions at the moment and are waiting to find out the actual specifics, I would suggest you have a look at the information we have on our website on endometrial cancer which includes a section on treatment for womb cancer where you can find out more about the hysterectomy

I have come across many members of our community who have been diagnosed with endometrial cancer most recently  who posted this endometrial cancer thread and  who mentioned today on this thread that she had a total hysterectomy after her endometrial cancer diagnosis. Have a look too at  's endometrial cancer thread as this member was also at the time a bit anxious about the hysterectomy and don't hesitate to reply to any threads you feel might be relevant to you.

I hope that you won't have to wait too long to get all the details of your diagnosis as well as a bit of clarity regarding treatment and what the next steps might be. Keep us updated if you get a moment on what you find out.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi. I had a diagnosis of endometrial cancer 3b and had a hysterectomy and oopherectomy last May. The had chemo, radiotherapy and brachytherapy..finished November 2024. Am trying to build up after treatment atm. Happy to chat if it helps.

  • Hi, im Keen to know your symptoms. I hope you’re doing okay and have lots of support around you? Xx

  • Hi I had an appointment with a surgeon this morning, it started in the lining of my uterus and has penetrator most of my  myometrium. She did say that there is no evidence of it anywhere else in my pelvic area although they are slightly concerned about some of my lymph nodes being prominent as they are 8mm in size.

My symptoms were hard to put as it started with really bad pain during my period to the point I passed out and had to sleep for a few hours after. Then my periods got longer and alot heavier with golf ball size clots and lumps. I had an ultra  sound scan and they found a small polyp (December 23) was then referred to gynaecology but the waiting list was like a18 months. I called about it and contacted the Dr's and they expedited me jn October because I was bleeding for 32 sags straight and was so very tired all the time. Went for a hysteroscopy 10th dec and a week later was called in for an mri scan then was sent a letter to see someone on the 30th dec when I was told I had cancer.

I have lots of family support and some of my.work colleagues,, my wife has struggled with the news but we are supporting each other and our two boys,, one of which has asd. Xx

  • Hi Claire 1980, I started getting a period at 59, my last period was 15 yrs ago when I was 44, I thought this shouldn’t be happening to me. I made an appointment with my doctor gave her my symptoms and she referred me to gynaecologist at my local hospital, I had my appointment with a ultrasound and and a hysteroscopy, in October 2024, I received my diagnosis in November 2024. That I had Endometrial Cancer, it was  a low level cancer,  I saw the surgeon and they told me that I would need an operation to have a full hysterectomy. I had my operation on the 16/12/2024 , 1week before Christmas, they told me that they have removed both of my ovaries, my cervix and my fallopian tubes out, and the lining of my endometrium where my cancer was. My surgery was keyhole robotic surgery, I was in hospital overnight and I came out the next day. I will be under the hospital for the next 5 yrs, I go to all my hospital appointments. I am glad that I had the full hysterectomy, and all the support of my family and friends. If you need to chat with me again please do so.

Hi, I had the same stage of cancer as yourself and now at the end of my 6 weeks recovery from a total hysterectomy along and some pelvic lymph nodes. I'm about to go through the same treatment starting on Monday. I am very apprehensive to say the least. I am considering cold cap therapy but not sure if I will cope. I'm also terrified of the brachytherapy due to horror stories from people. How did you cope/ find it all?

Hi there. I did the cold cap therapy for the carboplatin and paclitaxel cycles. I wasn't aware of it during the cisplatin cycles until a nurse mentioned it. I was lucky as it worked amazingly for me. I didn't use my wig at all and the loss wasn't patchy so not always noticeable. I used very gentle and natural hair products and only washed my hair once a week as advised. It was painful...especially the first 45mins of having it and any other people around me on different occasions asked for it to be taken off. I gather it helps with regrowth too so thought I would try especially as my autistic daughter gets so upset seeing me ill. Hoped I would look less ill to her if I still had some hair!

I had 2 brachytherapy sessions in between the 2 types of chemo. The team were sooo kind. First session didn't hurt at all. 2nd one was more uncomfortable but very quick really. I also had daily radiotherapy during chemo and brachytherapy and haven't met anyone who has experienced the same so happy to chat further. Good luck with everything x

  • So I got my results today, and it was stafe 1b and grade 3 in the end, but they don't think I need any further treatment at this time. Everyone is happy for this news, and I have mixed emotions at the moment, I should feel so happy, I know, but I can't help the what-if questions in my mind and maybe I don't deserve to get off that easy when so many people have it so much harder.

  • Hi Clair1980, my consultant told me I won’t need to have any chemotherapy, because they got it all out and it hadn’t spread to anywhere else in my body. It was contained in just one place. I am just so happy for you both. I was the same as you with mixed feelings and emotions. And all the questions going through my head. We should count our blessings that we are alive. And we everything to live for. I sometimes wonder if someone upstairs has it in for us. I would like to wish and pray for those who have been diagnosed with cancer and hope they find the cures for every single cancer disease. So that all the people can live to see there children get married and to be there for the first grandchildren.

Thanks for that Jo. It sounds like you had everything thrown at you at once! I have my pre assessment tomorrow then start chemo Monday. When I’m finished my chemo I’ll start radiotherapy then finish with brachytherapy. Very relieved you found the brachytherapy ok and have not had any internal complications. Did painkillers help with the cold cap pain at all? I’m presuming after the first 45 mins it became bearable? Good luck with your recovery.
