Endometrial cancer

I was unexpectedly diagnosed with endometrial cancer, brilliant surgeon performed total hysterectomy . Am waiting for results of the biopsy stage 1grade 2. Op was delayed due to blood clot. I’m otherwise very active no health problems. (Some mutant genes were found in hysteroscopy and Lynches is being tested for, I am terrified of going through internal radiation. Not coping well at all with the diagnosis . It’s 5 months now and just preying MDT team get results next week.  I found the hystoroscopy so painful. Could I be sedated for internal radiation.  I would be very grateful for any information

Thank you

  • Hi katie121 and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to learn that you had to have surgery for endometrial cancer. I hope you have recovered well from the surgery.

I can appreciate it can be a stressful and difficult time waiting for results.

You may find it helpful to read our information about internal radiotherapy after a hysterectomy. The best person to discuss your concerns with and if you could have sedation would be your team at the hospital as they know your situation. You could leave a message with your cancer nurse specialist (CNS) and they would get back to you as soon as possible.

It may also be possible to contact the radiotherapy department at the hospital where you are being treated for advice.

If you were to have sedation you would need to make sure you have someone to pick you up and take you home afterwards.

I hope this reply helps a little. If you would like any more information or support please feel free to get back to us. if you would like to speak with one of the nurses on our helpline you can call freephone at 0808 800 4040 between 9 am and 7 pm Monday to Friday.

    take care,

    Jemma

  • Hello Katie, I am sympathetic as I have been there. I had a radical hysterectomy 18 months ago, also stage 1, grade 2 and tissues were checked for Lynch, routine as I understand. Radiotherapy was recommended and I had a choice of full beam or brachytherapy. I chose the latter. I was very frightened when I went along, took Ibuprofen in advance. I didn't feel any pain! Also had a hysteroscopy but with spinal block as I had read that it could be very painful - but they are trying to get into the womb whereas for brachytherapy they are not. But the brachytherapy people use a superb gel and they check the correct size of instrument for you before inserting it. It only takes a few minutes. Hope this might ease your mind and hope it all goes well for you.

Hi. I had brachytherapy last year alongside chemo and radiotherapy. Am happy to answer any questions if I can help. I know how scary this all is and fully understand your fears.
