Lobular breast cancer diagnosis

Hi, this has happened all quite quick for me.

I went for my routine mammogram at the end of June 2026 and a week later I was asked to go to the breast care centre at the hospital, had another mammogram and two ultrasounds one with a biopsy and was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma possible Lobular carcinoma.

I had wire guided lumpectomy surgery mid August together with the removal of 3 lymph nodes, the results came back with 2 of the lymph nodes showing signs (and have been sent off to America for further testing) and am booked in again soon for further surgery as there wasn’t enough clear tissue surrounding the tumour removed,

It just seems like I’m living in a bit of a dream world at the moment, I have times where I just start crying and other times I think why me.

One thing I wanted to see if others had suffered from since having surgery is the feeling of a numb top of the thigh, I was told it is due to Diathermy during surgery. I suffered from pain trying to sit up in bed through it, a very warm feeling in the thigh and it just seems sensitive in general.

  • Hi Lucie, thank you for replying. I was recovering well from the first surgery, doing the exercises 3 times a day and left they were really helping. Just had the second surgery on Monday this week, so started with the basic exercises again this morning. Also thank you for giving the telephone number to contact the nurses, I had a chat with the registrar before the surgery and explained my thigh situation and he did say perhaps they would use the other leg for the diathermy this time but I don’t know if they did or not. When I had a nap yesterday afternoon it seemed to be back again in the same leg when I got up, I do find being propped up in bed sleeping helps though. I mentioned it to my cancer nurse and she had advised me to take antihistamines which I’m doing every day.

It’s lovely to know this forum exists for me to connect with others ️
