Lobular breast cancer diagnosis

Hi, this has happened all quite quick for me.

I went for my routine mammogram at the end of June 2026 and a week later I was asked to go to the breast care centre at the hospital, had another mammogram and two ultrasounds one with a biopsy and was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma possible Lobular carcinoma.

I had wire guided lumpectomy surgery mid August together with the removal of 3 lymph nodes, the results came back with 2 of the lymph nodes showing signs (and have been sent off to America for further testing) and am booked in again soon for further surgery as there wasn’t enough clear tissue surrounding the tumour removed,

It just seems like I’m living in a bit of a dream world at the moment, I have times where I just start crying and other times I think why me.

One thing I wanted to see if others had suffered from since having surgery is the feeling of a numb top of the thigh, I was told it is due to Diathermy during surgery. I suffered from pain trying to sit up in bed through it, a very warm feeling in the thigh and it just seems sensitive in general.

  • Hi JuSomerset.  Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I had surgery, chemo and then radiotherapy for lobular breast cancer.  I am sorry that they didn't get clear margins and you need further surgery.  I was lucky to get clear margins the first time.  Do you know what treatment you will be having?  I did not get the warm feeling in my thigh that I can remember just a weird feeling under my arm after surgery.  The exercises really helped me.  Good luck with treatment and next op.  I am happy to chat anytime.

  • Hi Lee. Thank you for messaging me . I only had the second surgery on Monday (this week) and should get the results next week, so fingers crossed, then I’ll get told my treatment.  The exercises really helped me as well after my first op, and I started the first ones again this morning. The thigh thing is really weird and very painful when I try to get out of bed, also had the cording in my left arm, which I read about in one of the leaflets they gave me. Again thank you for getting back to me.
