Lobular breast cancer diagnosis

Hi, this has happened all quite quick for me.

I went for my routine mammogram at the end of June 2026 and a week later I was asked to go to the breast care centre at the hospital, had another mammogram and two ultrasounds one with a biopsy and was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma possible Lobular carcinoma.

I had wire guided lumpectomy surgery mid August together with the removal of 3 lymph nodes, the results came back with 2 of the lymph nodes showing signs (and have been sent off to America for further testing) and am booked in again soon for further surgery as there wasn’t enough clear tissue surrounding the tumour removed, 

It just seems like I’m living in a bit of a dream world at the moment, I have times where I just start crying and other times I think why me. 

One thing I wanted to see if others had suffered from since having surgery is the feeling of a numb top of the thigh, I was told it is due to Diathermy during surgery. I suffered from pain trying to sit up in bed through it, a very warm feeling in the thigh and it just seems sensitive in general.

    Hello JuSomerset, 

    Poor you it does sound like it has been a bit of a whirlwind and it must all have come as a bit of a shock to be diagnosed with invasive lobular breast cancer. I hope that you are recovering well from the last surgery and that the coming surgery will go well. What you are feeling is totally normal and understandable and they are feelings that many others will relate to, who will have had this sensation too of living in a bit of a dream and of needing to cry. 

    I hope that you will hear from others here who have had this feeling you describe of numbness at the top of the thigh and this sensitive and warm feeling you describe. If you type 'lobular breast cancer' in the forum search function, you will find other threads from members who have had the same diagnosis and feel free to respond to any you feel you would like to connect with. Just to give you an example,  posted this thread recounting her lobular breast cancer diagnosis and I also wanted to mention one of our lovely members  who was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer and would be another great person for you to connect with. 

    I also wanted to give you the number of our nurse helpline 0808 800 4040 - it is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and you are welcome to give them a call if you feel like talking things through with them or have any questions after your diagnosis and surgery. They might also be able to offer further guidance regarding this thigh issue. It's definitely worth telling your medical team about it and asking them if there is anything that could alleviate this sensitivity and numb feeling in your thigh.
