Sleepless

Why is it always in the middle of the night when all the doubts crowd in? I go to bed tired by 11pm and wake up stressed and tired of this rollercoaster. Anyone have any tips for sleeping longer?

  • Hi Jane-M,

I am sorry to hear that you have joined the sleepless brigade. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 15 years and have discovered that sleeplessness seems to go along with many cancer treatments and diagnoses. Have you discussed this with your care team?

There is no quick and easy answer to this problem. Sleeping tablets can become addictive. Alternatives include Hypnotherapy, Acupuncture and Mindfulness. I sincerely hope that one of these will work for you.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on and remember, that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi I've started doing a night time routine along with breathing exercises and putting a podcast on. It's working and I'm sleeping for longer with only 1 waking up for the loo, which is normal for bowel cancer post op I've been told. Hope you're doing well and thanks for replying x

  • Hi Jane-M,

I am glad to hear that the podcasts and breathing exercises are helping you and hope that they continue to do so. Waiting for results tends to play havoc with the mind and our imaginations tend to be most active in the early hours of the morning.

    Kind regards,
