Why is it always in the middle of the night when all the doubts crowd in? I go to bed tired by 11pm and wake up stressed and tired of this rollercoaster. Anyone have any tips for sleeping longer?

Hi Jane-M,
I am sorry to hear that you have joined the sleepless brigade. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 15 years and have discovered that sleeplessness seems to go along with many cancer treatments and diagnoses. Have you discussed this with your care team?
There is no quick and easy answer to this problem. Sleeping tablets can become addictive. Alternatives include Hypnotherapy, Acupuncture and Mindfulness. I sincerely hope that one of these will work for you.
Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on and remember, that we are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Try headspace / calm apps. Listen to podcasts / music / radio. Breathing always helps me too. Hope you find something that helps you.
Hi I've started doing a night time routine along with breathing exercises and putting a podcast on. It's working and I'm sleeping for longer with only 1 waking up for the loo, which is normal for bowel cancer post op I've been told. Hope you're doing well and thanks for replying x
Hi I've started putting a podcast on once I've got in bed and it's helping me sleep for longer. I've been doing breathing exercises to help stay calm, especially when you're waiting for appointments and they really help. Thanks for replying
Hi Jane-M,
I am glad to hear that the podcasts and breathing exercises are helping you and hope that they continue to do so. Waiting for results tends to play havoc with the mind and our imaginations tend to be most active in the early hours of the morning.
Kind regards,

Hi Jane-M,
I listen to Tibetan Singing Bowls on YouTube when I need to relax in the middle of the night. It works well for me.
Take care
Chui
Will give it a try. Thanks
Hi am now using YouTube videos to switch off along with breathing exercises. Thank you for replying
Sleep stories help me get to sleep. Try Rain Day Antiques and Blue Gold. Both are available online for free. I get to sleep quickly when I listen to them. Now all I have to do is figure out how to stay asleep for more than five hours!
I hope the sleep stories will work for you too.
Hi thank you for these suggestions, I'll give them a try. It also helps to know you're not alone with the sleeplessness. Best wishes
