Diagnosed with TNBC - does anyone have the same diagnosis? Looking for support

Hey everyone. I’ve just been diagnosed with TNBC - invasive ductal carcinoma, stage 3. I’m 48, and found a lump around 5 weeks ago. I’m feeling absolutely overwhelmed and really just wanted to come on here to say hi, and to see if I can find anyone else in the same boat where we can potentially support each other through this. I’m now waiting on a full body CT scan, and will start with chemo initially in the next couple of weeks. They’ve said this will likely be six rounds, every three weeks, followed by surgery.

  • Hello JaneP-Herts

like you I found a lump on my left breast about 5 to 6 weeks ago.i have been fast tracked and had a triple assessment which resulted in the mammogram, the ultrasound, and biopsy results showing I have a 4cm tumour stage 2 grade 3 triple positive breast cancer (oestrogen, progesterone and HER2 all positive). I have had a CT scan and an MRI scan and the MRI scan has also shown nodules on my right breast, just found this out  days ago. I already know my consultant wants a 12 month treatment plan, where I start with Chemo for 6 months to reduce the tumour and then I will have an operation at 9 months and then radiotherapy in the hope the is will cure me. Whilst I have Chemo I have to have Herceptin or the alternative one injected at the same time. I don’t have the triple negative but do have the triple positive which is an invasive breast tumour which grows quickly.so by having this treatment it’s going to stop the receptors in their tracks from growing and stop the cells in their tracks. I am definitely worried and frightened of the treatment, especially the unknown, how it’s going to affect me and will I tolerate it. I will with my every might fight it. I have been signed off work already in preparation for chemo. I am waiting to see my oncologist to go through the plan next week and believe the plan is to start as soon as possible. Although we don’t have the same type of cancer I would be willing to be there for you, as everyone’s journey is personal but we will most likely.y have some similar worries and feelings going forward. I still have a few tests lined up to check my general health re heart etc.

  • Hey, thank you so much for reaching out. I have a lot of good friends around me who have gone through breast cancer treatment - scarily, I’m the third in our group of four friends whose kids went to preschool together. They’ve been amazing and so supportive, but they’ve happily finished their journey, and so it’d be good to be in touch with someone sharing similar experiences now, as I don’t know about you, but I’m finding this to be an incredibly lonely time despite having a great support network around me. This waiting for me is just the hardest part, and I’m so frightened in case the CT scan reveals any further spread. I’m a very positive person so really trying to channel a positive mindset. I went out for a walk yesterday as I always find walking great for clearing my head and processing my thoughts, and decided that i can either let this thing consume my life, or I can tackle it head on by appreciating and making the most of every day, even the *** ones ahead, and that’s what I’m aiming to do.

  • Hello, I’m the same, I have a great support network around me and everyone is being brilliant! It’s scary how breast cancer is so rife. I never thought at 34 I’d be going through this, it’s always ‘someone else’. I have been in a VERY dark place this last week, but am feeling more positive. Where are you based? I’m in Yorkshire. Not sure about the rules re sharing phone numbers, and if that’s something you would want to do? Try to keep busy, walking is great for the mind.
