Diagnosed with TNBC - does anyone have the same diagnosis? Looking for support

Hey everyone. I’ve just been diagnosed with TNBC - invasive ductal carcinoma, stage 3. I’m 48, and found a lump around 5 weeks ago. I’m feeling absolutely overwhelmed and really just wanted to come on here to say hi, and to see if I can find anyone else in the same boat where we can potentially support each other through this. I’m now waiting on a full body CT scan, and will start with chemo initially in the next couple of weeks. They’ve said this will likely be six rounds, every three weeks, followed by surgery.

  • Hello JaneP-Herts

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with TNBC. It's absolutely understandable that you're feeling overwhelmed by things at the moment. I know that many people have said that once you board the cancer train, it can feel like a runaway rollercoaster at times when additional tests are needed, and treatment plans are scheduled to start within a short space of time. I hope that you have good support from the people around you.

I've had a look through the forum and can't see that we have any other members currently active who have had TNBC. You can read through some older posts by using the forum search function at the top of the page.

However, we have quite a few members who have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, who are currently going through treatment or who have recently completed treatment. I'm going to tag in  ,  and  . Hopefully, one of them will see your post and pop by to say hello and share their stories with you. Breast Cancer Now also offers a service called Someone Like Me, where they match you to a volunteer who has gone through a similar experience.

In the meantime, if you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses, you are most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (excluding bank holidays).

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on JaneP-Herts. We're here for you.

    Sending my best wishes,

  • Hello JaneP-Herts

like you I found a lump on my left breast about 5 to 6 weeks ago.i have been fast tracked and had a triple assessment which resulted in the mammogram, the ultrasound, and biopsy results showing I have a 4cm tumour stage 2 grade 3 triple positive breast cancer (oestrogen, progesterone and HER2 all positive). I have had a CT scan and an MRI scan and the MRI scan has also shown nodules on my right breast, just found this out  days ago. I already know my consultant wants a 12 month treatment plan, where I start with Chemo for 6 months to reduce the tumour and then I will have an operation at 9 months and then radiotherapy in the hope the is will cure me. Whilst I have Chemo I have to have Herceptin or the alternative one injected at the same time. I don’t have the triple negative but do have the triple positive which is an invasive breast tumour which grows quickly.so by having this treatment it’s going to stop the receptors in their tracks from growing and stop the cells in their tracks. I am definitely worried and frightened of the treatment, especially the unknown, how it’s going to affect me and will I tolerate it. I will with my every might fight it. I have been signed off work already in preparation for chemo. I am waiting to see my oncologist to go through the plan next week and believe the plan is to start as soon as possible. Although we don’t have the same type of cancer I would be willing to be there for you, as everyone’s journey is personal but we will most likely.y have some similar worries and feelings going forward. I still have a few tests lined up to check my general health re heart etc.
