Unexplained lump above collarbone

Hi everyone,

I hope this post is okay, I'm not sure what's wrong with me and I don't want to offend those who have been diagnosed but I'm so anxious right now. I'm 20 years old, and I'm at university right now. About 4.5 weeks ago, I found a small lump above my collarbone on the left side. It feels about 1cm and is oval shaped, smooth and I can move it around easily. I noticed it the day after I had a flu jab so just thought it as an effect of that. It hadn't gone away in a week so I phoned the GP and they agreed to phone in three weeks. Three weeks later and it was still there, they ordered some bloods which all came back clear. They've referred me for an ultrasound after examining it - he said it felt like a lymph node and that from feeling it there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just keep jumping to the worst conclusions and thinking that I have lymphoma, because I've had really bad fatigue for the past few months. I had glandular fever in summer 2019, and I'm so scared that it could have caused lymphoma. So sorry for the ramble, I just don't know what else it could be apart from that.

  • Hi all thought I would post a little update as I saw my GP yesterday. I can only feel it at certain times and typically the GP couldn't feel it. He examined my neck and both sides of collarbone amd said it's promising if he can't feel it. He thinks it a sign of it going down but has ordered blood tests anyway which I can't have for 2 weeks. My anxiety is awful as my mother in law in hospital really unwell with pancreatic cancer.  Walking back to the car I could feel the lymph node again. ‍♀️

  • Mine pops up if I raise my arm in a certain way. It's hiding behind the collarbone (and there's a smaller one behind the other collarbone). I was given the all clear after blood test and ultrasound scan. So please try not to worry unless the swollen node puts on a growth spurt....Mine is/are still the same size as before (small ballbearing or small dried bean size) after 8 weeks so far.

Just had my second jab this morning. Will see if it happens again....

  • Hi Linda,

Did yours continually shrink over the 5 weeks or did it stay the same then suddenly resolve itself in the last week or days?

    Thanks

  • Hi, I'm new to the forum having joined whilst freaking out about some breast symptoms and a raised node above my collarbone.

I have breast symptoms the same side so naturally I have convinced myself of the worst and am terrified.

My glimmer of hope is my covid vaccines, both of which were administered on the same side. My last one 6 weeks ago.

The lymph node I can feel is about the size of a small pea, it's not    visible, and I can only feel it with my head turned in the opposite direction. It's not painful, but after prodding it a thousand times a day over the last 2 weeks, it kind of aches.

Dr Google has been cruel, and I regret searching up my symptoms as it has led me to tears on multiple occasions.

  • 5 weeks in & mine is still there BUT clearly smaller than when I noticed it.

It has gone from being prob same size as fingertip & quite rubbery, to about 1/2 to 2/3 of that & more fleshy.

When I found it end of Apr I had a stiff neck, massaged it & was WTF!!!! a clear lump.

I now still have one but I think if I was checked again at GP I would have to pointout where it is. That really should speak volumes. I could see it in early May, especially if I got neck at certain angle (which obviously I did every 5 mins....). Now I can only feel it.

I'm telling myself "this is a fckin Cancer board mate". I'm on here fretting because there is a lump that, if I want to go looking for it, I can feel. And with some logic behind it - found after vaccine, same side etc.

I'll stay on here to share info as I feel connected to you lot & this was a huge help when I was in a bad place with it. Exchanging notes on this is super useful and reassuring.

Here's hoping all resolved in a few weeks, OR if for some reason they don't & they hang about doing not very much, that we can all find peace with it & move on.

  • Hi Jerry

It stayed up for about 3 weeks  and then started to reduce in size until by about week 6 I couldn't feel it at all. It took a while and I've read reports of some people still having enlarged nodes for up to 8 weeks.

When it first came up 4 days, after the Jab it was quite big and felt like a double lump.

    Regards

    Linda

I'm due for the second jab in early June and plan to have it in the other arm to see if the same thing happens on the other side. Hopefully not next time.

    Will keep everyone posted.

  • Had my second jab on Saturday and the bigger of my two swollen lymph nodes has doubled in size (now feels like a kidney bean rather than a small dried pea). I can feel the one on the other collarbone is bigger, too. This would seem to confirm that the nodes are responding to the jabs.

When I had the jab I mentioned the nodes, and the doctor giving the jab said that the response could be due to me having had the lymph nodes removed in one armpit along with breast surgery for breast cancer 5½ years ago.

I was given the all-clear regarding sinister causes of lymph node swelling 7 weeks after the first vaccination, also following a clear blood test, by the ultrasound scan person, and so I feel I can't go back to the doctor to ask for more tests and scans unless it continues getting bigger over the coming weeks.

I would be interested to hear if this happens to other people on the forum. All the best, everyone!

  • It sounds to me like it's resolving itself like it did with me. It takes time in some people. It's a worrying thing to find. I was anxious too. There so seem to be alot of reports of this happening after the various jabs now the more that people are vaccinated. Its the body's immune system kicking in. Its funny how it happens in some people but not others.

    Regards

    Linda

  • Thanks for your reply Linda, very helpful.

I am just past three weeks and it does feel like it has started to go down. I will see over the next few weeks if that continues slowly.

    Regards

    Jerry

  • Thanks to everyone who is sharing on this chat!

I had my Covid moderna shot on Friday so 5 days ago and just now felt a lump in my collarbone. It's the size of a pea and hard and moves slightly.

I am going to call the GP tomorrow to see if I can get any support and will wait to see if it gets any bigger. It is frightening but I feel a bit better knowing I'm not the only one and some of you all have positive news regarding it.

Please share more positive news when you get it to help my anxiety and sending my best wishes to you all!
