Inflammatory breast cancer

Hi all,

just wonderd if anybody has an info on inflammatory breast cancer, its regarding my mum.

Long story in august while we were away on holiday mum started with a really itchy rash under her breast(on her tummy but just under her breast) its was like a browny colour and really itchy she had left it and just used creams and thort nothing of it until end of september her breast below the nipple and including the nipple became really inflamed and bright red and extreamly painful and itchy she went to the out of hours doctors who said she had and infection from where the skin on her bra line had split and gave her cream and antibiotics the same week had a follow up app with a nurse at her  own doctors who also agreed it was infection after 2 weeks antibiotics it all went away all the pain and everything had gone GREAT i felt like the luckiest girl alive as i had been thinking the worst as i suffer AWFUL health anxiety. Fast forward 6 weeks later no rash but out of the blue this horrendous red patch on her breast below the nipple almost like a pizza slice and pain are back!!  2 weeks on antibiotics and nothing has changed and she isnt getting seen until the 8th of jan i cant believe they have left her so long the nurse has also said its worrying it is back and that she cant offer her any reasurrence.  Im not coping very well AT ALL. Me and my mum are incredibly close and i have 3 children who also adore her. Im so mad it took the nurses so long to aend her to breast clinic why not send her before?  Im already pushing my mum away and dnt really want to see her im just not coping im rambling on now but any info would be GREAT. I have spent hours and hours and hours searching the internet for alternative reasons for it but think im scaring my self more in the process

    Hi Ellaloz,

I am so sorry to hear that your mum's breast problems have escalated. I hope that now she has been admitted to hospital, that they will find out exactly what is wrong.

Thinking of you both and, please let us know how she gets on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • The fact it went away with antibiotics at one stage leads me to think it's an absess or some infection like cellulitis.

    I hope she recovers fast

  • Hi and thanks for your message..

i really hope you are  right. No news as yet as she was transferred to a different hospital they dont have the right fascilities at our hospital. And thats wasnt until after 1am so a long day ahead x

  • So sorry you have all this stress, hope it's a simple infection that antibiotics can take care of....what a start to 2019!

    Keep us posted xxxx

  • So today......

mum is on 2 different types of antibiotics now havnt touched it to be honest redness gone down ever so slightly but thats all,  she was supposed to have a scan today but they really want this swelling to go down so planning to go ahead with that tmoz wether they will or not i dnt no she cant have a mammogram as too painful

i keep having momens of feeling really positive then feel real fear and dread AWFUL!

  • And on top of all that you have to be strong for your mum, well, it sounds like they have a plan in place, it will take time to kick in, you have no choice but to be patient....I hope you manage to sleep ok during this stressful time as the last thing you need is to be under the weather....keep us posted.....and take care xxxx

  • It does sound more like an infection. Cancer doesn’t usually come and go.

    Hi Ellaloz,

Try not to worry too much - what will be will be and, no amount of worry will change your mum's diagnosis. It is early days for the antibiotics to kick in yet, but I'm glad to hear that the redness has gone down slightly.

What a pity that her breast swelling wasn't down enough to do the scan today, but I hope that they will be able to do it tomorrow.Your mum must be quite frightened by all that is happening. You will need to remain strong and positive for her. I know that it's not easy. I had to do this when my own mum's breast cancer spread to her brain, bones, liver and lungs.

I'm thinking of your family and praying that you soon find out what the cause of all this is.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Shes been on oral antibiotics for 3 weeks prior to this think they are scanning it today reguardless as obviously they need to know whats goong on. All the sonsultant said yest was that if she was a young breast feeding woman we could understand but at your age we need to find whats going on as it isnt normal. Xx thanks for all your replies really appreiciate them and i will updat later see what today brings xx

  • Update already the antibiotics have not worked so sad and some one has forgot to book her in to breast clinic at the hosp so now consultants running round trying to chase that!
