Bleeding

I wonder if anyone could give me advise. I’m on cerrazette contraceptive pill, you take it every day and don’t have periods. I have been in it for 12 years. In 2011 I had a bleed which lasted a week I went to doctors they examined me and said everything looked fine and it was probable a breakthrough bleed. It stopped and didn’t happen again till 2014 same thing one week then stopped. Anyway I’ve started again it’s not heavy not enough to get onto a towel and only when I go toilet and wipe (sorry this is gross char) but I’ve had some lots??? Not having a period for such along time I don’t know if this is normal? My smears are up to date and am not due one till next year. I’m in no pain. Any advice would be welcome I’ve told myself I will go doctors Monday coming if it hasn’t stopped but you can’t stop the worrying

  • I'm so pleased you're ok now that you've come off Cerazette. I've only been taking it for 3 weeks and been having period for 8 days but from today have decided not to take it anymore. So when you said you came off and bleeding stopped I'm hoping for the same. Fingers crossed

  • This is me exactly.  I've been on the mini pill for over 25 years and not had a single period yet in the last month I've had 2.  Mainly dark with clots.  Spoke to my doctor today and he said the mini pill can do this and as I am 49 he said it was probably hormone related and told me to keep a diary and not to worry as it is perfectly normal.

  • Hi all, I'm so glad to have found this post to know that I'm not alone. I've been taking Cerazette for about 7 year and have had NO periods, I'm 36. Then last month it just happened out the blue, no pain just blood. I'd say clotted at first. I called my Dr and he told me to double up for a week, this work pretty quick so after the week I stopped. It came back as a real period with (not sure how else to put it) liquid blood, I had to learn how to use lady products again.  I went back to doubling up and again it worked nice and quick, after the full month I thought that should do it.  As soon as I went back to just one pill It came back so I'm back to doubling up but it's now been about 2 weeks and it's not making a difference.  I called my Dr again and he said to just keep taking 2.

I'm not in pain, it's just annoying and not nice when ones body just changes out of the blue and you have no explanation.

After reading this thread, think I'll get a second opinion.

Also, might be of interest, the 'period' first started 2 days after my smear (which I've always been up to date on and it was clear).

    Be safe all

  • Hi Sleep

Sounds exactly the same as me, I've spoken to the doctor recently and she didn't sound too concern. Actually said the mini pill is used for people to regulate bleeding. I've not been advised abut doubling up but not sure I want to unless you do this when you start bleeding?! I've not bled since November when I bled 2 weeks out of the four then nothing! As you say no pain just really annoying :)

I have my ultrasound and follow up appointment in a couple of weeks so I will post an update. I'm beginning to think this is pretty normal and perhaps it's just hormones or body saying I've been on the pill long enough, try something new. We will see!

    TC x

  • I am really glad to find these posts. I am a bit lost to be honest. I've been on Cerezette and Cerelle for over 12 years. I used to take the combined pill but then I got two DVT'S in my right leg so went onto Cerezette pill because to be honest I didn't think it was going to be this long. I thought I would meet someone and maybe have children, I work with children. However it became clear to me about 3/4 years ago when I was finally referred to a vascular specialist unit in London that the Deep Vein Thrombosis caused irreversible damage and now since 2019 I'm a lifer on Apixaban (blood thinner) and with that there are more risks so I've resigned myself that I won't have children naturally but I would like to foster at some point. Anyway I was fine on Cerezette pill, had no bleeding at all and then in August 2019 I started having dried blood mini periods for about three days, no pain at all, at that time I was on warfarin and then I started Apixaban in Sept 2019. I enquired about it at the vascular unit in case it was to do with the Apixaban but they said it wasn't and if it happened again, to ask my Dr to refer me to a gynaecologist. It has happened quite a lot, I kept a record of when and how long, it went from dried blood to fresh blood and has become more painful. My Dr refused to refer me to a gynaecologist, I've had blood tests, two womb pelvic scans and nothing. I'm not peri menopause but it's obviously to me that I've been on the pill too long. My Dr still wont refer me to the gynaecologist which is highly stressful and frustrating for me, he asked their advice in November 2020 and they said to double the dose of my pill for three months and then see the Dr again. The double dose is not stopping it and the Cerelle is making me itchy. I don't know what my next steps can be, if I come off the pill completely then with my blood thinner it will be horrendous. I'm thinking of the injection, I don't want the coil, can't have the implant. So a bit lost, this could have been sorted by a referral to the gynecology department, even they don't know why he wont refer me. My Dr is very blaise about things. I'm lost, don't know what to do, thanks for listening x

  • Hi,

I am on this pill for the last 15 days. I was on the combined pill ovreena for 7 years but found my mood high and low. I am recovering from a bv at the moment. Today I have brown discharge is this normal.

  • Apparently the brown discharge is an indication of your normal period ending, it's the uterus shredding. I would say that for you it's just your body changing the way it works. It's nothing to worry about, when I first started the cerelle or cezerette I did have some blood brown spotting, nothing to worry about.

  • Thank you for your reply. I hope this pill works for me. I am hoping to move away from the pill but in lockdown I didn't want to jump off it. I would like to use alternative methods. Acupuncture etc maybe I'm mad. I take the pill due to heavy periods and migraines. Thanks again for your response.

  • Hello,

can I just ask what happened with you with this as this sounds exactly like my situation. I've been on this pill for year then went back on it after having my baby and been bleeding twice a month and currently been cramping and spotting for about 2 weeks. Ringing gp 2mo

  • Hello both and all,

I know it's been a few years since you've posted on here, (hoping you both or one of you sees it! ) I'm on the same pill, have been for the past 8-9 months. I don't have any bleeding at all, which has been weird for me but in my mind recently I suddenly got very anxious that when I want to have children, maybe this pill can cause infertililty problems (since I haven't been bleeding for a while)

I may just be over thinking! But haven't found much online about this to ease my mind.

wondered if anyone could help me out?
