Bleeding

I wonder if anyone could give me advise. I’m on cerrazette contraceptive pill, you take it every day and don’t have periods. I have been in it for 12 years. In 2011 I had a bleed which lasted a week I went to doctors they examined me and said everything looked fine and it was probable a breakthrough bleed. It stopped and didn’t happen again till 2014 same thing one week then stopped. Anyway I’ve started again it’s not heavy not enough to get onto a towel and only when I go toilet and wipe (sorry this is gross char) but I’ve had some lots??? Not having a period for such along time I don’t know if this is normal? My smears are up to date and am not due one till next year. I’m in no pain. Any advice would be welcome I’ve told myself I will go doctors Monday coming if it hasn’t stopped but you can’t stop the worrying

  • Hi

i have been on cerazette for 12 months and had periods every month, some last longer than others, usually 4/5 days and stop then 4/5 days later start again....

Dr said she believes this is Cerazette and to consider coming off it. I cannot take the combined pill due to having a erosion on my cervix.

had a smear in Feb and just had my results, I am HPV positive and have low grade abnormal cells, my anxiety has gone through the roof... due to the virus and lockdown my appt isn't until 30th June. I just don't know what to do and the worry is taking over my everyday life

  • Morning all. I too am glad I found this post as there are so many things on here I can relate too. I had migraines on my first pill when i was really young so moved to cerezette at around 16 years old (I'm 30 now) and have had no real issues on it. I had a burst ovarian cyst at 14 and then again had to have a laparoscopy last year to remove adhesions which they're saying are due to endometriosis. I was OK up until September time when I started getting random bleeding, which is very unusual for me as I never normally bleed at all, and now I'm getting 2 'periods' a month most months, but then some months I don't get anything. TMI warning... My bleeding is very heavy upon wiping, but not much on the pad. And if it does reach the pad is more clotty and thick.

I too am an axiety wreck at the moment with this lockdown and so really don't want to have to go to the docs to ask for a check on this. But I'm also very paranoid something is wrong though and I'm also in quite a bit of lower abdo pain with it. I've been to the docs for it earlier this year and they referred me to gynae who told me to come off the pill for a week which I did and to have a review in 3 months... Which is may June time. Do you think it's just endo or something worse? I really want kids in the next couple of years too.

  • Hi ladies,

So glad I found this. I'm having very similar issues to lots of you. Came off combined due to migraines, no problems and no periods with desogestrel for years, but now I've had a number of periods in last 4 months that I think are getting worse. This one is 11 days so far, was trailing off but woke me up last night with pain and is now a heavy flow again. Had a recent smear which was fine but unsure what to do now :( will phone GP tomorrow and see if I can get some advice. Thank you all for sharing, I've got no experience of this so have no wise words but it's good to know I'm not alone xxx

  • Hey

    your symptoms sound like mine

im so worried. I have been on this pill for over 10 years..... had my baby last year.... started taking the pill again and all was fine with occasional bleed which I wasn't worried about as had experienced it before however since December I have been having bleeds for days approx every 2-3 weeks whilst being on the pill with occasional abdominal pains (which Iv had way before the bleeding)

ultrasound can back clear... doctor now referring me to Gae x

  • Hey

Just found this upon checking whether my symptoms were 'normal'. I too have been on cerezette for 5/6 years with no bleeding or spotting ever until last year a random very light period whilst at work but luckily wasn't that heavy. Since December last year I've had bleeding every 4 to 6 weeks, which isn't very heavy but like some of you dark and clotty. I've not contacted my gp but sounds like it's nothing to worry about and is just the pill messing with our bodies.

Perhaps time for a break/different contraception

  • Hi all

I don't want to worry anyone, certainly not my intention but I would always recommend getting abnormal symptoms checked by your gp, you know what's not right.

I was on cerrazrtte for 11 years, had all clear smear tests and clear colposcopy. Never had a period, apart from light spotting 2 years ago when I was stressed with buying our new house.

But November 2019 I was having very light bleeding, not enough for a pad just when wiping. But I knew this wasn't normal for me. As I said all my smears, swabs and colposcopy was clear. But after I bleed after sex I went back to my gp, was referred to a gynaecologist, same one I saw 6 months before.
She did an internal scan and found a mass. She took a biopsy directly from the mass, and that's how I found out I have stage 1b2 cervical cancer.
No one has been able to tell me why it was missed but the only thing my oncologist could say was maybe it was because of the placement, that a smear and colposcopy might have missed it.
    Please, always abnormal symptoms checked.

  • Hi, I know this is now quite out of date but just wanted to ask (to group in general) if anything came of this?

I have been on Cerazette for at least ten years and once in a blue moon I get the tiniest bit of spotting for a day or two. Now suddenly I've had (TMI on the way, sorry) some weird spotting off and on for about 7 days so far. Mostly just when I wipe, and there seems to be quite a bit of what looks like uterine lining in it, i.e. doesn't just look like blood. The whole episode was preceded by tender and fuller looking breasts for a week, but I honestly NEVER get periods so I don't know if the two are connected or if there could be something wrong.

I just don't really know much about what could prompt a hormone change. And why now after so long?

I also sometimes take a laxative for IBS. I did so for a while recently and worried it might have interfered with my pill and could this be implantation bleeding from pregnancy? But 7+ days seems too long.

    Help!

  • I would always suggest checking any bleeding out with your GP. It is worrying. I started this thread at the very beginning. My bleeding just stopped and haven't had it since.  It doesn't take much for your hormones to dip and that can cause break through bleeding. And there's a lot of theory on this happening whilst on cerrazette. I was so worried at the time but doctor wasn't to concern and told me if I was still bleeding in 6 weeks then go back but it stopped. But always always get checked out. Xx

  • Hi really hope you are ok, can I ask what the process is for you now?

  • Hi

im ok, just still shell shocked and I got my diagnosis on Feb 5th. After I had the results of the biopsy the following week I was given a full body scan, think that's called a CT and an appointment with my oncologist 3 wks later. At that I found out that it hadn't spread.

I delayed my treatment which was to start 3 wks after my consultation, by a wk to try fertility treatment (I don't have children) but unfortunately I had a bad bleed the night before egg collection so I couldn't do the collection.
my treatment started on a Monday and I did 6 wks of treatment.

5 chemos (Monday's), Radiotherapy (mon-fri). On wk 5 I had chemo on Monday and instead of radio I had brachytherapy on the Tuesday and wednesdays, external radio the other 3 days. And wk 6 same as wk 5 only no chemo. No days off except wkends but the radio only lasted 10 mins so wasn't bad.
Find out in August if it's worked or if I need further treatment.
If you have any other questions let me know, happy to help anyone who has them, I had plenty at the start of all this.
    regards Nic
