Bleeding

I wonder if anyone could give me advise. I’m on cerrazette contraceptive pill, you take it every day and don’t have periods. I have been in it for 12 years. In 2011 I had a bleed which lasted a week I went to doctors they examined me and said everything looked fine and it was probable a breakthrough bleed. It stopped and didn’t happen again till 2014 same thing one week then stopped. Anyway I’ve started again it’s not heavy not enough to get onto a towel and only when I go toilet and wipe (sorry this is gross char) but I’ve had some lots??? Not having a period for such along time I don’t know if this is normal? My smears are up to date and am not due one till next year. I’m in no pain. Any advice would be welcome I’ve told myself I will go doctors Monday coming if it hasn’t stopped but you can’t stop the worrying

  • No replies (sad face) I’ve been to gp

today. She took bloods and had to do a self swab. Said it could be a number of things. Under active thyroid which I take meds for. So they checking my blood and any infections. Any advice would appreciate as so worried

  • Hi bexi02

Sorry you've not had a response. I would have responded sooner had I seen this. Ive been on cerazette for  3 years after I became too old at 36 for combined pill. If I'm honest I've hated it. I had terrible break through bleeding ... 6 months. I have then had some brown blood about every 6 months ... never enough for pad and usually just when wiping (sorry).  I went to gp about it recently who decided to do ultrasound. Seems I have some fluid in my womb which they want to investigate. I have to say I have been beside myself with worry. I have however always felt this pill was not suiting me. Having done a little research it seems people suffer with all sorts of random bleeding on this pill so I am hoping that's what it is and this may be the same for you ....do not Google your symptoms ( never a goid idea as never anything positive) but if you have a look at something like mumsnet you will see women explaining their experiences on cerazette which is not always positive. I have suffered terrible anxiety problems in the last 3 years .... I had put this down to personal issues but having researched cerazette a little more over the last week it has dawned on me there might be a connection as lots of women have experienced this horrible side effect too.

    Best wishes

  • Thank you so much for your reply. I am stressing really bad I also have anxiety usually heightened when it’s medical reasons. Doctor seems to be testing for hormones or infections first. So will have to wait tilmonday Tuesday next week for those results. In the meantime praying it stops over the weekend. Just scared for the next step if it doesn’t stop or it’s not hormonal or infection. I’m 45. Xxxx

  • TabbyQ keep in touch. Let me know how you get on. I’ve been on mumsnet “wow” can’t belive all the problems people are having while been on this pill. Even people who have been on it along time and having no problems!!! Fingers crossed it’s just hormones/ change pill etc xxx

  • Hi again

I suffer with health anxiety and have actually just been to GP tonight who agreed the time line for my anxiety difficulties could be related to cerazette. I almost collapsed from panic attack last Friday on my boss - a man who is a very matter of fact lawyer He didn't know what on earth to do!

Dr was however able to offer me some advice about cerazette. He told me that women can have all sorts of changes throughout their time taking it ie. No period for years then terrible bleeding the next ... All caused by changes in hormone levels and sometimes to do with weight gain and often thyroid issues! I'm having bloods to test for that just in case. Dr also said that these types of pills can make significant changes to womb lining and ovaries which could all point to the problems we are experiencing. I'm coming off this pill and stopped last night !!

I'm off for hystoroscopy next Tuesday ... Not exactly relishing that idea! I'm feeling a bit better though and hopefully the things my Dr has to say tonihht might also put your mind at rest

Happy to chat if you need to share any concerns.

  • I have a under active thyroid!! So she checking the levels haven’t changed. I’m going to get all this sorted results etc and then I think I will come of this pill and find alternatives. Sick of worrying and having melt downs!!! So glad you replied to my message feel like we are on the same journey. I’ve took a great deal

if comfort from you. Never thought I would end up

on a chat site!! But here I am! Anxiety is horrendous!!! Xxxxx

  • Hi Bexi02 what happened in the end? I'm having exactly the same issue that started yesterday after taking cerazette for 11 years. I'm now convinced I'm dying, I'm 47 and on propranolol for anxiety

  • Hi

I thought I'd reply as it's been over 12 months since all this happened to me and these posts were first made but i know the awful feeling youre suffering - the worry almost toppled me. I ended up having hysteroscopy which showed all was well ... I have been off cerazette for almost a year and feel better than ever. It can be normal to bleed even if you have been taking mini pill ... your hormones change and so does your body. Get checked out to put your mind at rest but anxiety can make things so much worse. However try not to assume worst ... could be so many things ... peri menopause, change in hormones ... perhaps time to come off pill. My dr wouldn't listen to all my symptoms unfortunately but listen to your own body. Best wishes

  • Hi. Sorry I've just seen this. So my bleeding stopped, doctor said it was break through bleeding which can happen on the pill. I was in huge panic but he told me unless it went on for weeks not to worry. So my advice is give it time before you panic , mine ran the same length of time a period would then it stopped not had any problems since. It's the anxiety that makes me ill, thoughts racing through my head. Xx

  • Thanks both, my doctor was pretty amazing screening and swabs and booked me for a blood test which I had today. So fingers crossed
