Bleeding

I wonder if anyone could give me advise. I’m on cerrazette contraceptive pill, you take it every day and don’t have periods. I have been in it for 12 years. In 2011 I had a bleed which lasted a week I went to doctors they examined me and said everything looked fine and it was probable a breakthrough bleed. It stopped and didn’t happen again till 2014 same thing one week then stopped. Anyway I’ve started again it’s not heavy not enough to get onto a towel and only when I go toilet and wipe (sorry this is gross char) but I’ve had some lots??? Not having a period for such along time I don’t know if this is normal? My smears are up to date and am not due one till next year. I’m in no pain. Any advice would be welcome I’ve told myself I will go doctors Monday coming if it hasn’t stopped but you can’t stop the worrying

  • Hi, I was put on the mini pill just over 3 months ago due to my mood swings and periods. I was told due to my age (46) that I am probably perimenopausal. First month fine. Had a period when I was supposed to. Second month came on a few days early and had a period for a week which is unusual as hadn't had a period for a whole week in ages. This month I came on after 3 weeks and been on for a month now. Last week all I needed was a panty liner but this week it's like a period again. I have a scan booked for the end of October. Spoke to my doctor again yesterday who thinks it is most probably the pill. She has told me if I can and all ok with the scan, to try and give it at least 6 months. If I am still bleeding then, they will try me on the mirena coil. The good thing is it's been brilliant for my mood. I don't get any pain with the bleeding and feel ok. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but in the last month I have started the couch to 5k. Can exercise interfere with your periods? The pill might have something to do with your bleeding. I hope my bleeding stops before 2 months

  • Hi. Since posting I have taken myself off Cerazette and apart from two days immediately afterwards, I've had no bleeding. I think when the pandemic is over I will get the coil. It's still early days but so far I'm feeling better since coming off the pill. Mood wise it didn't seem to affect me either way, but I'm sure I will be in a better mood if I'm not constantly bleeding  Good luck with yours!

  • That's good that you've stopped bleeding. I think if all ok with my scan, then I will stop it, if I am still bleeding.  Fingers crossed with the coil

  • Hiya!

I know I've written on here before but I've been going back through and seen we are the same age and wondered how long you've been on cerazette?

I'm having the same issue! Since March I've had 4 bleeds.. one of them lasted 3 weeks and was heavy and just started my 4th bleed with a bit of pain but so far its quite light. It gets heavier at night/morning then like nothing through the day..

Are you still having issues with yours or has it calmed down/stopped?

  • Hi, sort of! I've been on cerazette for about 5 1/2 years now. I was recommended by the gp to come off cerezette for a few months to allow my cycle to return to normal and then maybe try the implant. I did this but ended up having to go back on it because i had awful menstrual migraines and due to covid cannot get the implant done yet. I've been told it's nothing to do with weight but when I follow a calorie restricted diet...I bleed! Sometimes lightly for a few days and sometimes like a full period for a week with cramps! So who knows. I hope yours resolved itself!

  • Hi!

Thats really interesting about the diet. I've been on many including the 5:2 that I was on for a year but didn't have any problems . Are you eating enough veg in your diet? Apparnrtly low iron can bring on the bleeding?

I thought maybe my vitamins were causing a bleed so I stopped them, but that didn't work.

The only thing I can think is that when this all started I wasn't great at taking my pill at the same time every day and ended up missing a couple or taking them 12 hours late.. I've now changed it to taking it in the morning and maybe my body is readjusting to this?

Do you take the pill at night or in the morning and take it the same time everyday? Xx

  • Well I did weight watchers about 6 years ago and lost two stone and had no problems. But recently I've noticed if I restrict my diet and do weight watchers I'll bleed and if I put on some weight I don't. Maybe it's a coincidence- I'm sure it probably is because the dr has said only extreme weight loss could cause it but it's definitely something I've noticed.  Then I'm always torn between wanting to lose some weight but not wanting to be on a permanent period! It's interesting what you say about the veggies..I probably don't tbh but I've always been that way. It won't hurt to up my veggie intake though!

ive been told that the reason you have to take it around the same time everyday is to try and keep your hormone levels around the same and so to prevent fluctuations which might give you the side effects. I used to take it on the evening but then switched to the morning once I came back on it. Tbf Most of the time I'm really good at taking it at the same time but I've never missed one or had to take them out of the window before: mine was put down to just one of those things. Obv now at the moment I'm fine but it's so random it's frustrating. I'm waiting for the implant and hoping that'll be better! I can't take the other pill due to migraines and no contraception gave me menstrual migraines!

  • Apologies if I'm replying to a specific person - I can't see how to post a standalone comment.

So glad I found this also. I've been on the mini-pill for over 20 years and both yesterday and today have been having a bleed just as described above. (Looks a lot on wiping but little on the pad). Thank goodness for teenage daughter's liners!

I'm following this post with interest but it's put my mind at rest a little.

  • Hiya!

So glad to hear from someone who has also been on it a long time. I hope yours isn't too bad. Mine seems to be coming to an end, which is a relief as its been the length of a normal period this time.

I've realised hormones do change constantly through your life. From weight loss/gain to changes in lifestyle, stress, exercise.. basically sums up all of 2020 for changes and stress. Its no surprising lots of us are having issues this year.

I normally take vitamins on a daily basis but stopped beginning of lock down as I was thrown out of routine.. even something like that can knock the hormones around.

I'd say if this is your first bleed in a long time then don't worry at all! I normally get one a year.. if it keeps happening or gets really heavy go to the doctors . As mine has been light and lasted a week im not going to worry just yet.

    Hope this helps

  • Hi!

Sorry if I'm replying to a specific person not sure how this works!
Ive found this thread so so helpful and realieving!

I have a small issue, I've been on cerazette for almost 3 years now with no issues and recently I had a 6 day bleed after sex (completely out of the blue and has never happened before)

tmi but it was just 'old blood' when wiping nothing major, I was advised by a few friends they've experienced this too so wasn't too worried.
Today it has started again with no clear cause, only minor when wiping but I'm really concerned! Im not in pain and haven't missed a pill or anything of that nature I feel like I'm overacting a little but I'm not sure what could cause a drop in my hormones! (I'm 18)

Does anyone have any advice/ experience! Greatly appreciated if so. I plan on phoning my GP for peace of mind.

    thanks!
