My mole has changed a lot since my last biopsy.

Hi, I have always had a mole in my head but a few years ago when I shaved my head it seemed to have grown. I went to the Drs and he advised to get it checked. I did, and had a biopsy taken, the results were negative. I shaved my head again last month and it had grown substantially, changed shape and colour. I went to the Drs this week and they said they would put an urgent request in for it be checked. She thinks part of it is a basal cell carcinoma which apparently is not fatal or that dangerous, but she is concerned about another part incase it is a melanoma. My appointment to get seen at my local hospital is a week in Wednesday. Just thought I would throw it out there, not sure if anyone has had a case like mine. Thanks for reading.

  • Hi. I'm sorry to hear this and pleased you already know about your appointment. I guess my case has similarities (I'm waiting for an appointment on a red flag list that's reserved for melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma). I can certainly relate to how difficult things must be for you. For me, being aware of the potential and waiting for clarification one way or the other is completely horrendous. I'll be thinking about you and wishing you all the best.

  • Hi, thank you, appreciate that, and appreciate your reply. I just don't know how to feel really, I know the Basal Cell is relatively treatable but the melanoma is more tricky, guess I'm just being impatient as like you say the waiting is hard. I'm sorry to hear about yours also, I hope your appointment comes very very soon. Am I right in saying the NHS 'have' to start treatment 60 ish days after urgent referral, hope so for both of us. Thank you again and all the best to you also.

  • Hi. You're most welcome. 60 days rings a bell but I'm not cretain about that. I guess targets are one thing; achieving them another. This forum seems like a good place to get answers to this type of question. Hopefully someone will pop up and clarify things for you. Take care.
