Post Menopausal Bleeding

Hi

Last night (Friday) I had some light brown discharge.  There is also slightly brighter brown/red when I insert my finger into my vagina (apologies if TMI!) but no further discharge as yet.  I’m 55 years old and it’s been over 3 years since my last period.  I’m terrified it’s cancer.  I spoke to the 111 service and she recommended I get a BV test kit, which indicated trichomoniasis which as I’ve not been sexually active suggests it’s not the most accurate result.  I will phone my GP on Monday but I’m already seeing a psychologist for health anxiety so this is my nightmare come true.

I live on my own, I don’t have anyone I can talk to (friends were never really my thing!) and my family have passed away over the last few years so I’m very isolated.  I just thought it might be helpful to reach out via this forum for connection.

Thank you for reading this.

  • Please go to the doctors. I had a post menopause bleed after 11 months I have pre cancerous cells. My bleed was bright red and for 5 days. Be brave and come on here or ring the nurses I did. The waiting for results is the worst. Please do not be alone. We are all here for you xxxx

  • Dollysocks , I hope that you have  got a treatment plan and are getting well looked after .

  • Unsure how long I will stay. Will find out more on Monday. X

    • Hi Dollysocks I hope that it went ok at the hospital today and that you got some  reassurance about the op .
I hope that you get the chance to relax / distract yourself before Wednesday x
  • Hello cat cat

I felt better going to the pre op. I was going to cancel, but thought let me not miss this opportunity. Very apprehensive moreso with recovery, but going ahead on Wednesday unless they say otherwise. How are you? Any updates? Xxxx

  • It is understandable to feel apprehensive , but at this stage you do need to just get on with it and trust the medical staff who are very experienced .

I think if you put it off then you would worry about that too .

I always find the waiting the worst bit , so at least you are not far off your op and then you will need to get on with the practicalities of recovery .

I think there are nurses etc on this site so if you do feel yourself having a bit of a wobble you can message them - although I think they are only about during office hours .

Have a think about what it is you are worried about re the recovery and if there is anything you can do to plan for that . Again,  I think the unknowing bit  is hard . Is there anyone on this board who can give you an idea about the recovery . I know it will be different on a case by case basis , but you could prepare for the worst and hope for the best .

Still waiting here for my biopsy appointment  x

  • To be honest cat cat it will be exactly 2 months from my initial drs appointment to the operation on Wednesday I am very fortunate.

I just think with me its age, being overweight, high bp so I dont feel so free and easy. Ive had all the pre op tests ran through my history. Im not used to sitting around and have a demanding job.

I think the next concern for me is the pathology results and recovery from the op. I just need to realise I cant go 100mph!!!

I hope you get you biospy appointment soon. All the procedures and the waiting made me absolutely crazy, obsessive and anxious. It's no good mentally. Fingers crossed it's not too long xxxx

  • Hope you are okay Cat Cat - have you had a date yet? xx

  • Hi Maebelle  , yes I  am fine , thanks . Still nothing here re appointments . I suspect it will possibly be another week until I get a date . But of course frantically checking the post anyway !

Hope you are also doing ok Maebelle ?

  • I’m so sorry you haven’t heard yet Cat Cat and completely get the frenzy around postal deliveries!  I’ve also downloaded the NHS app as that also gives appointment details (especially as our post is a bit hit and miss at the moment) so that might be an option - but I recommend you only open it during office hrs as it does also contain sensitive information as well xx

  • Hi Maebelle ,

Also joining for a virtual  handhold for Dollysocks  today . I hope that you ( Dollysocks ) don’t have too much hanging about and don’t inadvertently flash any bits whilst wearing the ridiculous hospital gowns !

In my hospital trust area,  we don’t yet have the nhs app with appointment details etc . So will have to wait for the post .
