Complex cyst- Ovarian Cancer?

Has anyone else experienced this. I have abdominal pain, pelvic pain, heavy periods and a recurrent UTI. I had a CT scan which showed a mass in my womb, after further investigation I have a CA125 count of over 170 and doing a scan they found a 7cm complex cyst. Doctors like a gynaecologist, oncologist and a surgeon are doing an MDT? I have also got a Clinical Nurse Specialist. I am really confused to what is going on. I am 22, family history of Cancer. I don't think it is cancer, but my mind can't stop going there as I am not off the cancer 2 week pathway yet. Any advice at all what to expect? Thank you.

  • Hello my dear ,

You are certainly not alone in being confused about what's happening  , but thankfully the Multi Discipline Team meeting will be discussing your case soon . You can phone your CNS at anytime , but the surgeon will be telling you the details of your situation at an appointment shortly after .

The 2 week pathway just means you must be seen within 2 weeks of the referral .... there are other targets for the hospital,  but they're not your worry .

Make sure you have someone with you at any appointments .... and ask if you can record what's being said ..... or get a friend to take notes to look at later .You'll never be able to recall it all   especially the medical terms .

How are you with roller coaster rides ? This is going to feel like you're on one .... but young people are really good good at dealing with problems. It will all make sense eventually . I  pray that ll goes well and that the NHS looks after you as well as they have done for my hubby  .

  • Hi my lovely,

Thank you for your reply, it means a lot. Thank you for explaining it feels like everyone is in a rush so not much is being explained. You are right about the rollercoaster currently, between hospital appointments. I hope you and your husband are doing well, take care x

  • Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it. Yes, truly puzzling. I am glad that your cyst was not cancerous.

That is a good shout to put the question in the nurses chat. Thank you, the weather is better here now still a little cold, have a lovely day x

  • Hello,   just checking in on you . Hope you're coping OK and getting some answers now .

    Thinking of you still

  • Hi thank you. I had my appointment yesterday. They have said its no longer a cyst but tumour and showing signs of cancer. So a lot to take in. I will be having surgery within 4-6 weeks. I am not getting key surgery either as it is so big my surgeon does not want to risk it. Still not 100% that it is cancer but that is my update. Sorry it is not a fantastic one. Take care x

  • Hello my dear  girl ,

I'm so very sorry that you have had this bad news . What a shock for you and your family. I'm pleased your doctor is dealing with your case quickly, even though the surgery might seem a long way off. The time will pass pretty fast as you make preparations.

Please keep in mind that they won't really know until your surgery happens and biopsy results come back

. If you recall I had that same surgery in 2014   ,as my cyst was cancer suspect  ......and my results were clear . I had already had a hysterectomy 20 + years earlier  , so no keyhole due to old scar tissue . It was OK.

Now , you are wonderfully young,  so they'll be carefully thinking about your future plans  I'm sure.  Your youth also means you will  recover from surgery really well .

Be brave and remember "Your strength will lie in keeping calm and showing trust " .

    In my prayers daily ,

    Zillah

  • Hi my lovely,

Thank you for your lovely email. I do really appreciate your kind words. I am grateful they are moving quickly even though it is not confirmed to be cancer. How was your recovery time if you don't mind me asking? Yes the goal is to take my ovary at this stage and the tumour. If the biopsy that they are doing while doing surgery comes up it is cancer, I think they will do a secondary surgery but take lymph nodes. I like that quote it is calming. Thank you again x

  • I’m sorry that it wasn’t better news. However it’s still an unknown, as all all tumours until they come out, so keeping everything crossed for you.
it’s good news they are not going to try keyhole as I know that the concern is they spread something if they don’t get a clear run at it. Hopeful for a speedy recovery for you after your surgery.
do you need to have further testing or appointments prior to that surgery date?

  • Thank you, I always think it could be worse. I am not there yet and it is been dealt with. I asked if it turns out to be cancerous would I need more treatment, so I know a rough estimate plan of what happens if it is a borderline tumour or if it is cancer. I had my pre-op assessment yesterday so no more testing until my surgery. The oncology nurse who is so lovely is going to call me when there is a rough date so that is positive. Thank you for your reply, it means a lot x

  • Sorry this is later than intended.  My recovery time ? My op  was on a Wed afternoon and I was home on the Sunday . Probably 6 weeks before driving again ... and that's all I can remember really . A lot of surgery techniques and equipment are much changed for the better now .

Glad you liked the quote...it's from the Bible book of Isaiah . This one is from the gospel of Matthew . "So never be anxious about the next day ,  for the next day will have it’s own anxieties. Each day has enough of its own troubles "

    One day at a time

  • That is okay. Yes my surgeon said that I should look for at least a 3 day stay in hospital, I guess that makes sense if they are taking out an organ! One day at a time is right, and thank you x

  • What did they say about further treatment? That’s great you had your pre op and are ready to go, the sooner the better. Keeping everything crossed for you. A nice short time in hospital too. Treat yourself to some new comfies going in. Keep in touch x
