Complex cyst- Ovarian Cancer?

Has anyone else experienced this. I have abdominal pain, pelvic pain, heavy periods and a recurrent UTI. I had a CT scan which showed a mass in my womb, after further investigation I have a CA125 count of over 170 and doing a scan they found a 7cm complex cyst. Doctors like a gynaecologist, oncologist and a surgeon are doing an MDT? I have also got a Clinical Nurse Specialist. I am really confused to what is going on. I am 22, family history of Cancer. I don't think it is cancer, but my mind can't stop going there as I am not off the cancer 2 week pathway yet. Any advice at all what to expect? Thank you.

  • Hi my lovely,

Thank you for your lovely email. I do really appreciate your kind words. I am grateful they are moving quickly even though it is not confirmed to be cancer. How was your recovery time if you don't mind me asking? Yes the goal is to take my ovary at this stage and the tumour. If the biopsy that they are doing while doing surgery comes up it is cancer, I think they will do a secondary surgery but take lymph nodes. I like that quote it is calming. Thank you again x

  • I’m sorry that it wasn’t better news. However it’s still an unknown, as all all tumours until they come out, so keeping everything crossed for you.
it’s good news they are not going to try keyhole as I know that the concern is they spread something if they don’t get a clear run at it. Hopeful for a speedy recovery for you after your surgery.
do you need to have further testing or appointments prior to that surgery date?

  • Thank you, I always think it could be worse. I am not there yet and it is been dealt with. I asked if it turns out to be cancerous would I need more treatment, so I know a rough estimate plan of what happens if it is a borderline tumour or if it is cancer. I had my pre-op assessment yesterday so no more testing until my surgery. The oncology nurse who is so lovely is going to call me when there is a rough date so that is positive. Thank you for your reply, it means a lot x

  • Sorry this is later than intended.  My recovery time ? My op  was on a Wed afternoon and I was home on the Sunday . Probably 6 weeks before driving again ... and that's all I can remember really . A lot of surgery techniques and equipment are much changed for the better now .

Glad you liked the quote...it's from the Bible book of Isaiah . This one is from the gospel of Matthew . "So never be anxious about the next day ,  for the next day will have it’s own anxieties. Each day has enough of its own troubles "

    One day at a time

  • That is okay. Yes my surgeon said that I should look for at least a 3 day stay in hospital, I guess that makes sense if they are taking out an organ! One day at a time is right, and thank you x

  • What did they say about further treatment? That’s great you had your pre op and are ready to go, the sooner the better. Keeping everything crossed for you. A nice short time in hospital too. Treat yourself to some new comfies going in. Keep in touch x
