Colonoscopy

Hi every one I’m due for a colonoscopy on Tuesday I’m feeling really scared don’t really feel.upto the procedure as I really suffer with stress and anxiety but I know I need to do this  I have been feeling as if I need to poo but some times it’s just reddish pus and feeling very gassy but because of feeling I need to poo I’m always in the bathroom , been having problems for a while now. I thought maybe I just had internal piles but when I went to my gp doctor couldn’t see or feel any thing so did a fit test which came back positive  so I was referred for a colonoscopy  I’m so scared of having cancer  not looking forward to the bowel prep  I think your all a lot braver than me   Xx

  • I had a colonoscopy some years ago and was utterly terrified before it.

GP couldn't see or feel anything with me either but it did turn out to be piles. Nurse said that wasn't unusual, for them not to be noticed.

    Hope you get good news

  • Thank you  I’ will be taking the prep to night and then six in morning  as my appointment is afternoon can’t have any thing to eat now until after the colonoscopy. I’m really scared about tomorrow I’m still hoping it’s just internal piles hope the prep I can cope with  I guess I will be on toilet all night  hope I get good news as my stress levels are so high

  • Aww, everything you are saying is identical to what Ive gone through x everything will be fast tracked now

I had my colonosphy 1st December, my 1st chemo started 3rd January

    I've had 4 scans since, I had 10 biopsies

Same as you I "felt" my tumour, I just thought it was piles as my bowel screening I had done a few months back as nothing found

If it wasn't for a new doctor reviewing another problem I had god knows what would have happened as I've no symptoms

She was the one who asked did I have any problems with my bowels or bladder, I too said I've got piles

Nope, it was a bloody tumour

The worst part for me was waiting for and having scan results to confirm Exactly what was going on and what would happen next

Mine has gone to my liver, but they can zap that they said

Still haven't had my results from a full body scan and full liver scan to see if it's spread any further

No news is good news hopefully

Not a good day today for me, feeling sorry for myself, so bored too, I'm used to working 10 hrs day

Tomorrow will5bd better for me, I'm determined to get out of this rut I'm in xx

  • Hello Tango

I'm sorry to read this. It is scary news of course. Several of us on here have received similar in recent weeks- you are not alone and we will get through this together.

I had the same news as you 8 days ago. Just like you've described, though we know every case is different, the medical experts can do so much these days.

No doubt they will quickly arrange scans for you and come up with a treatment plan.

    Thinking of you today.

  • Sorry you're all going through this. I hope you all get speedy effective treatment. Rooting for you all.

  • Hi I'm very sorry to be reading this ,the only good side of it is at least its been found and you know where you are with it now ,if you hadn't gone it could have been a whole lot worse ,there are some really good treatments that have surfaced in the last few years so I'm sure they will let you know what's what as soon as they possibly can and get you on a treatment plan ,keep your chin up there are plenty people on here going through the same as you so it would be good for you to keep in touch with some of them even if its just for a chat to see how you are doing ,there's always someone to chat to  ( Jenny )

  • Hi tangoPotter

i am so sorry this isn’t the news we and you were all hoping for.
well done for getting through today, now you have an understanding of what is happening , a plan can be put in place to get you back in tip top health. We are here anytime if you need to chat or vent. Best wishes

    Ash

  • Hi jenny. I couldn’t believe my news yesterday I don’t know what I’m feeling  or how to feel it wasn’t the news I was expecting  couldn’t believe I have this growth inside my rectum the feeling of it feels like piles. They took 8 biopsies from it so waiting for ct scan now then after there discussion they can tell me if it’s spread any where and what they can do for me  I’m really scared and my anxiety is through the roof  the colonoscopy was horrid yesterday felt like a red hot poker up my bum and all the gas she was putting in  horrible

  • It must have been a terrible shock ,I was shocked when I read it ,just goes to show we don't know what's going on inside our bodies , its no wonder you were bleeding all the time and why it was so painful having the Colonoscopy ,I sincerely hope there's a lot they can do for you once you get the CT scan out of the way ,I know its not the news you expected but getting you into a better position starts now ,as you know many others are going through the same so keep in touch with them and help each other along ,just take each day as it comes try to eat what you can to keep your strength up ,I know its easier said than done but worrying will not change anything so try to occupy your time with things you normally like doing ,as many have said before don't look for answers online will not give you any answers ,most of it is old stuff from years ago ,there are a lot of new medications about now so just have faith in your Doctors ,keep in touch with others on here as it will help you (Jenny)

  • Hi James  I’m a bit like you I’m struggling with eating I don’t know if this is the cancer or just me and stress and anxiety  my cancer is in my bottom which I can feel I was thinking it felt like piles  but it wasn’t  so every time I stand up I feel it like I need to open my bowels with the pressure of where it is  I’m really sore there now because of the biopsies feels at times like a knife in there  I’m scared of what they will do. I will be having a scan soon to go with the biopsies to see if it’s spread  then they meet to decide on what they can do.  How are you today hope you’re doing ok. Just try and eat. We need good food to help us get through what we might have to endure x

  • Hi Tango

I'm doing a bit better today. Am managing to eat. Little and often. It's odd too. I'm usually a very healthy eater (veggie, no alcohol for a year, little caffeine, loads of beg and fruit normally), now I'm supposed to avoid fibre, which is ruling out 2/3 of what I'd normally eat (lots of nuts, seeds, raw veg).

Maybe after 9 days, I've moved to a different mental state, but I'm more OK today at least with food.

I started on anti-anxiety medication the day of the colonoscopy- never had that before  - and maybe that's helping. I don't feel a direct effect of it, but I think maybe it's keeping me calmer. If that's something for you to consider, just ask your GP. Veey much a personal choice and variable by person I'm sure.

I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

    Take care x

  • I know what you mean  I still at the moment not sure what I’m feeling sorry for myself. sad.and some times when I eat I feel a little sick. Not sure if that’s me or is it the cancer I’m not sure I haven’t eaten properly in around 9 weeks due to stress and anxiety  so I lost a bit of weight it’s all the in known I guess  she said she thinks the tumour as been there a while so I don’t know yet if it’s spread any where  my life just feels upside down and strange at the moment I’m 70 years old and a piano student but all this as just over taken every thing  like all of you lovely people on here I just want my life back
