8cm Complex Ovarian Cyst with CA125 of 51 - Absolutely terrified!!

I posted on here a few days ago after I found out unexpectedly that I had a large complex ovarian cyst. The consultant thinks it could a dermoid cyst but can't determine this for sure and is sending me for an MRI scan. In the meantime, my CA125 has come back raised at 51!!! I'm postmenopausal which just adds even more risk into the mix and I just feel like the odds are stacking up against me. I've had no symptoms and only got checked out because of a tiny amount of postmenopausal bleeding. I'm all over the place.

  • Hi everyone 2 more sleeps till my gyne appointment to look at Gemma im freaking out though. Everyone keeps saying it will be fine but my brain says otherwise. Every ache every pain I think it’s connected and Ive convinced myself im riddled with cancer. No body understands

  • Hey all, I haven't checked in for a while, it's been a busy few weeks. Hope everyone is doing well?

My surgery is a week today, can't wait. Pain levels are insane. Off to a pre op appointment this morning and then it's just counting down. I finally got some of the info from my scan, the cyst measured 3.6cm so wasn't too big at that point. My ca125 was within normal limits (can't remember if I said that before) so hopefully all is OK! Slightly worried I haven't taken enough time off work, I've only booked a week...

Will pop back after the surgery next week to update you all. Make sure you all look after yourselves

  • Bless you, we’ve all been there. It’s a really lonely and nerve wracking time. I am so glad you have a holiday booked in a few weeks to just relax. I am almost certain that your gynae will reassure you at your app, as they have said it’s a complex cyst, so perhaps she will be able to give you some more details in person of what type they think it is. Hopefully Gemma is either small enough to watch and wait, or she will come out. Keep us posted, will be thinking of you x

  • You poor thing. Do they think it’s your cyst causing you pain even though it’s come back measuring fairly small? You have just had such a long journey with this. At least you have had a lap before so you know what to expect.
so impressed at you only taking a week, I took 4. I think 2.5 would have been manageable but ended up getting ovary reconstruction so I was under GA for hours longer than expected. Hopefully everything goes smoothly and 1 week will be plenty. Counting down the days for you x

  • I completely understand how you're feeling because it's identical to how I felt at the time. You know that torturing yourself with all the what-ifs isn't doing you any good, but there's nothing anyone can say (other than the experts) that will stop that train of thought. I've previously mentioned in this thread that I've suffered from bouts of horrendous health anxiety numerous times in the past. Anxiety itself can trigger so many weird symptoms that you start thinking you've got all sorts of terrible things wrong with you. Take a breath and remember they've already told you what they think it is. They wouldn't be doing their jobs properly if they didn't thoroughly check their findings, and they also wouldn't just take a wild stab in the dark with their initial diagnosis. It's easy for me to come out with these words of wisdom now I've been through all the stages, but I really hope you can take something away from it that might help you keep things in perspective until you've got some more information. X
