Post Menopausal Bleeding

I am 65 and had an early menopause at about 45. I have had 3 episodes of some post menopausal bleeding over the last 2 months. It’s been very light, and just been a one off thing each time. I have a cervical smear test booked for the week after next . I’m wondering if I should chat to my GP before that though? Also I feel bloated, but I’m not sure if that’s just psychological!

  • That's good to hear, I have also been thinking about you all day.  You will be well looked after and I'm sure the team will support you.  My very best wishes and hugs Xx

  • That’s so sweet kaylinn48. Thank you! Xx

  • Yes I’m relieved, which seems an odd emotion to have when you’ve just been given a cancer diagnosis! But I am very aware that it’s the best bad news I could have had! X

  • Thank you so much Scarycat59. How brilliant are our NHS. It’s been only 4 weeks since I went to the GP! X

  • I’m happy for you. I had exactly the same surgery on May 17th. I was discharged the ne today. Can’t thank the doctors and nurses enough. They were brilliant. With key hole surgery, you hardly even notice the scars. The main thing for me was that it is all treatable unlike some other type of cancers. I’m here for you if you have any questions or want to talk further. Try to keep your spirits up. It’ll be fine. In fact 2 doctors told me that if you are going to get a cancer diagnosis, this type of cancer is the better type to get as it is so treatable especially if they get it early. Mine was on the edge of stage 2.  Try to relax now.

  • Thank you MrsMayMay! Yes 2 doctors have said the same to me about it being a ‘good’ cancer to have. Todays doctor said not only is it treatable; its curable. It’s made me reflect on my life choices. I am overweight and this has probably been a major factor in my diagnosis, which is in turn causing the NHS thousands of pounds to treat. I feel very guilty about that!! So a radical rethink of my priorities; my health; my kids (adult) and my grandchildren is long overdue. Certainly makes you reevaluate your life! Xx

  • Dear Wiseowl1, its so good to hear that the Dr's can get all this sorted.

In regards your weight, I thought I'd share with you what made a difference for me...I'm only 5ft2 and was about 70kg back in 2021.  I did loads of research and decided to make a few changes.  I started to fast each day from 5pm last meal until breakfast the next day at about 10am.  Its challenging at first, but it is frequently well documented.  But check with your team first.  I also cut out all sugars, lowered my carbs to complex carb only.  So no bread, pasta or rice..and I switched dairy to substitutes such as oat milk.  I avoid cheese, as I'm that made me put on a heck of alot of weight!  I make sure I have plenty of fruit but low glycaemic, plenty of vegetables, mixed beans and lentils.  And meat wise I have chicken thighs and fish.

I drink about 2 litres of water per day.  Some of it is chamomile tea...no caffeine, so no tea or coffee.

My weight is now about 58kg.  It only took about a year.

Otherwise, I do 2 sessions of simple meditation, that I went on a course to learn how to do.  It is very easy.

I do yoga 1-2 daily, on my own at home.

At least 1-2 short walks per day.

I'm happy to offer you support and advice if you need any.  Just here if you want and will keep quiet if you don't

  • Wow- you sound really committed! Well done . I have joined WeightWatchers and have lost 2 stone in about 3 months. I have cut out all alcohol and processed food. Have upped my fruit and veg intake and have joined our local YMCA  gym. It’s a complete life style change for me, but if I want to live, I have to stick with it. Thank you for your support! XX

  • That sounds great.  You're doing really well.  And yes, I'm committed to do the best that I can to live a healthy and happy life too. You're welcome to support if you need it.  Feel free to reach out if you need to talk.  There's alway the Eve Appeal if you need to speak to Nurses who specialise in women's conditions.  Just take one day at a time, and be kind to your body.  You can conquer this Wiseowl1 Xx

  • Well I had to go to my gp’s for an ecg as part of my annual health check this morning. There were 3 attempts and then nurse said she was contacting the dr to check the ecg as she thought it was maybe ‘playing up’. I sat for 20 mins in the waiting room and was then told to go home and they would contact me if needed as dr had not answered yet. Checking my nhs app on getting home I noticed there was a document added from 26th of this month. It states that my biopsy was benign with no signs of cancer or changing cells. I am so relieved as is hubby. Wishing you all the very best for your up coming hysterectomy and for everyone else still waiting for tests and results. We are truly blessed by our NHS service.
