Endometrial cancer

Hi,just be glad of any info or advice concerning endometrial cancer.

I'm in my very late 50s,finished my periods two and a half years ago.

Had a very unexpected and heavy period lasting five days.

Was referred for a scan and told my endometrial lining was 5mm,

I then had to have a vaginal scan which confirmed that the lining was 5mm.

My GP wasn't unduly concerned but gynae nurse insisted they arrange for me to have a hystercopy,

thankfully I'm having that with a general anaesthetic within this next month.

I'm just wondering if this is a fuss over nothing?

From what I've read a 5 mm lining is not particularly severe?

I'm tempted just to cancel the appointment when it comes through.

It's been a rough few weeks with a whole series of tests not to mention two bouts of shingles,

I'd just like to put the whole thing behind me.

Thank you.

  • I am waiting on the same but my lining is 12 mm i would imagine from what I have read that you have nothing to be worried about and that your dr is just double checking as they should investigate any post menopausal bleed xx good luck

  • I hope you get a date soon.

The waiting is the worst thing.

I've had a series of tests recently including a colonoscopy for a separate condition and then the whole gynae thing.

I'm convinced the stress has caused two bouts of shingles, and have now reached my limit.

I do appreciate the importance of these tests but have run out of steam.

I hope all goes well for you.

  • Thanks for your reply Mary, from what you have said it sounds like the coil could have caused the bleeding. Fingers crossed that the biopsy results don’t show anything. It is good that you have been seen so quickly. I have been quoted around £3000 for a hysteroscopy so will have no option but to wait for an NHS appointment. Good luck Mary.

  • Sorry Mary, just read Rachel’s post as part of this thread so comment about the coil is not relevant. Fingers crossed that you get done good results. I have not slept properly for the past few nights so my appointment on the 5/10/23 can’t come quickly enough.

  • That's great news, hopefully biopsies are clear.

Will let you know how I get on next month

  • That's an outrageous price for a hystercopy.

I have mine on the day before your appointment, though then there is the wait for the biopsy.

Hopefully all of us get good news

  • I am not sure if the price if £3000 included the biopsy and the pathology. One company quoted £4000 to £6000. I queried this price to make sure she wasn’t quoting for a hysterectomy but it was definitely for a hysteroscopy. I suppose they assume that most people going private have private medical insurance but the price seems extortionate. I don’t want to give you false hope but read last night that a uterus thickness of less than 5.5mms is less likely to be malignant. Trying to hold on to that thought until I have the biopsy and get the results.

  • How did u get on Mary ? Hope that u are feeling ok xx

  • I'm not long home.

    It was a difficult day,

I was persuaded to try a spinal anaesthesia, unfortunately it didn't work and was very painful,

in the end they then put me to sleep.

They removed two polyps for biopsy but it's a three to five week wait for results.

I have to say that the staff were lovely, anaesthetist spoke to me afterwards and said that was the first time in his career that a spinal anaesthesia had failed.

I don't have any period type pain but my back feels like I've been beat with a hockey stick.

  • Please£ to hear that you eventually got your hysteroscopy.  I asked if I could have a spinal block for one of mine rather than a general but they said I’d have to stay in overnight which I didn’t want to do, so had the general.

Hopefully your results will come back quickly (my histology after my recent hysterectomy was back in 2 weeks…I was expecting 5-6 weeks) and fingers crossed everything will be normal x

  • Oh no sorry to hear that does seem unusual that it didn’t work and I can imagine the extra pain it’s caused you. Hopefully it won’t be too long till u have your results- mind yourself xx

  • They advised me to have a spinal because I have high blood pressure and a minor heart condition.

I won't ever agree to a spinal again, the pain was horrible but at least it's over and done with now.

Doctor said it was unlikely to be cancer but histology  will make certain.

I'm not going to stress about results,

I've stopped going near Dr Google too.

Just being very lazy, doing some crochet and drinking tea until pain in back eases.
