Hi Mary. great news that you have an NHS appointment so soon. I am having to pay for a private consultation because I could have been waiting weeks for an initial Gynaecologist appointment. I had a TV ultrasound on Tuesday and my uterus lining was 5.3mm but I have had no bleeding but other symptoms like frequency and urgency of urination and my stomach has hit a lot bigger.  Hoping that he will then arrange a hysteroscopy and biopsy through NHS as some of the prices to have this done privately are ridiculous. Can I ask if they did any blood tests such as CA125. Thanks

I didn't have any blood tests at all,

I had what I thought was a period for five days(I'm 59 so was unexpected),

I mentioned it to my GP who tried to examine me but there was still too much blood,sorry for gross information.

She referred me via the two week rule,

I had an appointment for gynae following week,they did a ultrasound and a vaginal ultrasound,

she said lining was 5mm so would need hystercopy, biopsy and a smear( thankfully under general anaesthetic).

I think I first reported bleed at beginning of September so fairly quickly though have been warned biopsy results are five weeks.

Like you I am bloated,peeing a lot more and period pain( without bleeding).

I had bowel issues too but that has been diagnosed as diverticulitis.

I hope you do manage to get sorted via NHS,

my daughter paid for private health care via work and it has cost a lot.

tks - I had it don’t this morning all seems to be ok they said obviously have to wait on the biopsy result but from what they could see nothing untoward- my coil had actually slipped right down and was dislodged so I think the bleeding was probably due to that .

Thanks for your reply Mary, from what you have said it sounds like the coil could have caused the bleeding. Fingers crossed that the biopsy results don’t show anything. It is good that you have been seen so quickly. I have been quoted around £3000 for a hysteroscopy so will have no option but to wait for an NHS appointment. Good luck Mary. 

Sorry Mary, just read Rachel’s post as part of this thread so comment about the coil is not relevant. Fingers crossed that you get done good results. I have not slept properly for the past few nights so my appointment on the 5/10/23 can’t come quickly enough.

That's an outrageous price for a hystercopy.

I have mine on the day before your appointment,though then there is the wait for the biopsy.

I am not sure if the price if £3000 included the biopsy and the pathology. One company quoted £4000 to £6000. I queried this price to make sure she wasn’t quoting for a hysterectomy but it was definitely for a hysteroscopy. I suppose they assume that most people going private have private medical insurance but the price seems extortionate. I don’t want to give you false hope but read last night that a uterus thickness of less than 5.5mms is less likely to be malignant. Trying to hold on to that thought until I have the biopsy and get the results.
