Just had a biopsy which was really painful as I have breast implants and they struggled to get it. They were confident it’s just a fibroadenoma but I’m still stressing. Has anyone been told it’s just a fibroadenoma and it turned out to be malignant?

Hi new to this and very scared about a month ago I fel down stairs I noticed pain in my right breast and found a lump went to doc they referred me to breast clinic that was two weeks ago today I went back to doc as I have a burning pain in my nipple and area around nipple has changed shape. I seen a different doctor who found another lump while examining me. My appointment is still 4 weeks away and that's on an urgent referral. My body hurts all over back neck I'm so anxious I'm not eating or sleeping every time I look at my 2 beautiful amazing kids I well up I'm 38 and worried sick
Hi Andersonscs
Bet you're worried , I totally understand that ..I know sounds crazy but until you know exactly what is going on try to keep up with your routine and please don t Google stuff ..I did it and it scared me to a level I wasn't able to sleep for a week . My GP was brilliant , from the moment I went to see him it took them a week to be seen by a breast clinic and on 2nd April I start chemo .
Until you know for sure what it is try to keep yourself busy with other things , worrying won't make any difference unfortunately
Take care ️
Hi everyone,
I'm 38 and have already had two lumps in my left breast confirmed as fibroadenomas with biopsy (the first one was 15 years ago and the second one was 2 years ago and I still have both, quite large ones).
I now have a third lump in the same breast which came up a few months ago and feels very similar - hard and moves around when I feel it - and I have also noticed a small dry patch of skin directly over it.
I stupidly thought little of it as I've had a couple of them before and have been told I'm probably prone to them, and also didn't realise that the dry skin could be relevant.
Now I'm panicking a bit that I didn't get it checked out straight away which is exacerbated by the fact that I'm now 14 weeks pregnant. I've booked an appointment to see my GP but I'm really nervous as I don't know how I'd handle a difficult outcome during pregnancy. Does anyone have experience of multiple fibroadenomas in one breast?
Also, I'm in Ireland and each time I've presented with the lumps I've had biopsies straight away, with no ultrasound, not sure if that's the norm here. Does anyone have experience of checking lumps in pregnancy? Could I maybe opt for ultrasound before biopsy as I don't want to have any intervention that might impact on the baby and want to avoid hospitals as much as possible because of covid worries.
Hope everyone is staying safe xx
I have had results back now and biopsy, fortunately, confirmed fibroadenoma. Charlie33334,
I had an examination, ultrasound and then biopsy when I went for my referral at the hospital. If the wait is that long, go back to your GP, they can report it and hopefully hurry the hospital along. any cancer investigation appointments should not be delayed unless there is no other option (I work in the NHS).
Hi Marlyn,
I have come across your reply having a misdiagnosis and I am so sorry to hear you have gone through this and hope that you are since doing well, I was wondering if you could talk me through your misdiagnosis and how they eventually found out you had cancer as I am currently worried of a misdiagnosis myself.
take care
hopefully hear back from you
thank you x
Hi,
I have been following this thread, sorry to hear about your misdiagnosis. It sounds very similar to mine.
I'm 36 and was told 3 times I had a fibroadenoma until a biopsy confirmed it was actually breast cancer. I'm now half way through chemotherapy and will be having a mastectomy afterwards as the tumor had split off any caused another smaller cancerous lump in the same breast. Which strangely when I went for that biopsied was originally told it was also probably nothing. I did have spread to my lymph nodes but nowhere else in my body and am awaiting my results from my genetic testing.
I had a third lump that a CT scan picked up and was told again it was a fibroadenoma whwn i went for the biopsy. I didn't want to be awkward as everyone was lovely but I just didn;t want to listen to them say that again. Turns out the third lump was actually a fibroadenoma thankfully.
Good luck to all in this thread.
New too this , I've had a cyst aspiration and biopsy of a solid lump, both In left breast.
ive been reassured it's possibly fibrodnoma , now biopsy results cannot fully confirm, I've to go in and discuss surgery for removal .
im wondering if anyone else has experienced this .
thanks
Hey, I hope your treatment is going well. Sorry to hear you are going through this and really hope treatment has worked out well for you.
I just wanted to ask if when they did your ultrasound they picked up that lymph nodes were larger on one side than the other? I have just had biopsy and the lady doing scan initially said it was fine ("that's a good sign") but on looking at my other side she returned to first side and noted the lymph nodes were larger. She said the lump was quite deep so that was why she needed to biopsy in case "there was something nasty in there we could get out early". Tbh piecing together the lymph nodes, size of lump and fact she mentioned it's depth I am starting to really worry. I mentioned the lumps x2 to GPS over the last two years and each time it was dismissed. It's only this third time that GP did full exam and decided to send me and even then she said she thought probably benign. I'm 46 btw and had a FNA before and been told by HK doctor I should have a mamo every year.
i had trouble sleeping last night and am dreading tonight aswell. Though I know rationally there is nothing to be done and no point worrying it really is impossible not to!!!
Hi,
To answer your question my lymph nodes were not scanned at ultrasound. I'm assuming that was because I was told I had a fibroadenoma so they didn't check. It was after I'd had an MRI that I was told my lymph nodes looked swollen on the side I had the cancer. I was informed that large or swollen lymph nodes could be because my breast had been prodded and poked or because I'd had a biopsy which can cause the nodes to swell. I then had another biopsy to check if there was cancer in the nodes and I found out there was. I was reassured that just because there was spread to the nodes it didn't mean the cancer had travelled elsewhere. After that I had a CT scan which showed no further spread. I'll have surgery early October and it's then that they can tell me the extent of how many lymph nodes are involved.
As you say it can be very difficult not to worry and it sounds like it's been very stressful for you. I hope you don't have too long to wait until you can get some answers. Trying to find ways to distract yourself as hard as it can be can sometimes be helpful. I'd always try to think no matter how much I worry it won't change the results. It's good that things are been investigated now in the event anything needs to be done.
Hope all goes well for you.
Hi,
Thanks for your message which really helped me.
Unfortunately they have found cancer but it's early stage dcis high grade. Again, slightly shocking since all the Doctors and even surgeon told me they thought it was benign.
Am really glad to know and have found out but obviously nervous now in case there will be other sites shown on MRI or post/surgery, but I know I'm super lucky that stats for this type are great. I asked surgeon about the lymph nodes and he said ultrasound last recorded them as "reactive" rather than swollen. He said only likely to biopsy them if something showed up on MRI.
They are currently thinking lumpectomy in October followed by radiotherapy, though I told them I would be happy to get mastectomy if that reduced risk of recurrence but surgeon and nurse said that wasn't necessary in this case so am really praying the lump size won't be too big. They said they aren't b doing genetic testing or hormone testing at this point as it's non-invasive.
i hope everything is going well for you and thanks for replying before xxx
