Just had a biopsy which was really painful as I have breast implants and they struggled to get it. They were confident it’s just a fibroadenoma but I’m still stressing. Has anyone been told it’s just a fibroadenoma and it turned out to be malignant?

Hi, this is an awful time... the waiting is a killer! There's absolutely no way of knowing, you can Google til your fingers fall off but ultimately you just have to wait. Try and do something to take your mind off it. Easier said than done but statistics are on your side. It's more likely to be something innocent than cancer. Thinking of you
Hi iv been reading this thread for a while as been trying to look for how long people have had their fibroadenoma? I found mine when i was around 20 years old, got refered to breast clinic has a scan an biopsy and was told it was all fine (great news!) my only concern is 14 years later its still there, i went back to the breast clinic in september as i felt it changed shape, they just done a ultrasound scan and i found the radiologist very rude she said "its fatty tissue because ur getting old thats what happens" very blunt so felt i couldnt ask questions i quickly just seen the nurse after who said its the same size and not to worry. Iv now started with stabbing pains that iv never had in 14 years but feel like im wasting there time going back. Is that normal for anyone whos had one that long?? Should they have done another biopsy considering it was 14 years ago?
sorry for long post xx
Hi christinax87x
I haven't had my fibroadenoma for as long as you have. I have had mine for 4 years. I was told it was that when a doctor just examined my breast, but after a year of fighting I finally had an ultrasound on it to ease my mind and also told it's just fatty tissue, only I didn't have a biopsy! Sometimes that makes me a bit paranoid, but then I wonder if it wasn't a fibroadenoma something else would have cropped up by now. I often get pain in mine, all throughout the month but mainly when Mother Nature makes her appearance. My only issue now is I'm sure when I take my bra off that nipple looks like it is slightly inverted, like it has a hole in it, but within seconds pops back out again, trying no to worry about it but will mention it to my doctor on Friday when I speak about another ongoing issue. I'm sure fibroadenomas can be painful, and they either go or stay for good. Mine tends to hurt more when my 1 year old elbows me right there lol.
it doesn't sound very pleasant being spoken to like that. I find sometimes they deal with these things all day it's pot luck who gets the kindness and the rudeness! But even so a little bit of empathy wouldn't go a miss. Sorry you had to deal with that.
but if you are still concerned call your GP back and ask for a second opinion. That's all I can suggest, sorry for the long post back to you xx
Hiya.....Just quickly nipping in on this conversation......I was told my cancer was 'thickened breast tissue', 'there is no cancer here' they said...in May 2018....so I believed I was being silly and left it for all of 2019 and fould lypmh node under arm in Feb 2020...I only had mamogram ( and tubular-lobular doesn't show up, seemingly)...I didn't push for biopsy...
Details in my profile...
Love to you all.x
Hiya everyone,
I'm 18 and noticed a lump in my right breast probably a few months ago. I figured it was just what I get around the time of my period but it didn't go so I ignored it for a little while thinking it would, but with a history of breast cancer from my mother and maternal grandmother I went to this doctors this January.
I got a doctors appointment with a registrar where he examined me and was told it 'felt very hard' so referred me for a fast track scan - he was not reassuring in the slightest. I was worrying so went back to my normal doctor and he examined me saying it's moveable so thought it was a fibroadenoma or a cyst but would contact the hospital again asking for me to be seen because I had been waiting longer than expected for a usual fast track.
So today I went for my scan finally, had to wait about a month I think due to COVID. I saw a really lovely consultant whom I discussed my family history of cancer etc, received an ultrasound where the woman doing my scan was sure it was a fibroadenoma as she said it had a very defined shape. I then went back to the consultant I saw and he spoke about having a biopsy to be sure sure given the history, so I decided to have one. He had to use the puncture gun thing three times I assume as the lump kept moving ? Not sure. But overall I wasn't as scared as I thought it was - so for anyone worrying about having a biopsy it really isn't as bad as your mind will make you think
It was a fine experience and came away feeling really relieved but it still is worring me as I know there is a tiny risk for it to be malignant? After reading this thread I also am worrying as I feel my experience is similar to others where I've been told with confidence it's a fibroadenoma but in my gut I just am doubting.
sorry for it being so long but I just need to get it out haha. Hopefully my biopsy results will be back in about a week and half ? They said they'd ring me so if I get called in for a face to face I just know it's going to terrify me because I'm an anxious person as it is so will assume the worst! Hopefully it's nothing to worry about but thought I'd share with ladies who seem to understand , love to you all
will keep you all updated.
Hello,
We sound like we have the same doctor. Didn't fill me with confidence. I have my scan on Thursday. Would love to know how you get on!
My doctor said mine was rather larger (about 3 inches) and hospital called within and hour and arranged an appointment within a week. Think that is both good because of the current climate and worrying at the same time!
I am sure we both have nothing to worry about. Got to remember that most referrals turn out to be fine and we are both in an age bracket that is less at risk. At least that's what I will keep saying until I find out more!
Keep us posted!
Hi!
Sorry to hear you had the same experience with your doctor, it's no excuse but must be stress of the COVID situation I assume - still sometimes I think I'd be more empathetic than some doctors I meet !
And yes, I'm sure we will both be okay. Honestly the scan is nothing to worry about and if I base it off my experience all staff were so reassuring and you really will be fine! And yes our age bracket really is at less risk and things like fibroadenomas are common.
Will let you know how I get on, same to you xx
Hi everyone,
As with many of you on here, I was referred for a 2 week wait (admittedly the pandemic meant this was 3 and a half weeks) and had a scan and biopsy yesterday.
I went in to have one lump looked at, they have advised I have 4 in one breast (24mm, 22mm, 11mm, 9mm) which was a surprise. They are confident, as with most of you, that these are fibroadenomas.
I am in my 30s, and wondered how many of you have had a result of cancer when getting these at this age. Also how many of you have had multiple fibroadenomas found at the same time.
Thanks in advance for your comments
Hi there, I accidentally found a lump in my left breast, it's solid. I phoned doctors for an appointment and i got told to go in for an exam, I have a slight red patch of skin above the lump, the lump is quite deep into the boob. She felt it and said she thinks its a fibroadenoma. She has referred me to the breast clinic, but wondering what kind of breast clinic she has sent you to. She's sending me to the breast surgery clinic, not sure when I can get an appointment as the man said on the phone they don't know when the clinics are going to be open. Gp said I should be seen within 2 weeks. The man on the phone is saying in april some time.
Hi there ,
I'm one of those unlucky ones to be told after being reassured is fibroadenoma that is actually cancer ..and the quite agressive one -triple negative , as it looks now apparently no lymph nodes involved but considering my age (33) my doctor wants me to have genetic testing to see if I have that BRCA mutation which will make it an absolute nightmare if I m thinking I started it with "most likely " fibroadenoma .
Hopefully is not your case too xx
