Just had a biopsy which was really painful as I have breast implants and they struggled to get it. They were confident it’s just a fibroadenoma but I’m still stressing. Has anyone been told it’s just a fibroadenoma and it turned out to be malignant?

Hi, I'm sorry to say this was true in my case.....but please don't automatically think it will be the same for you....I couldn't help thinking that they shouldn't have said anything at all until they had the biopsy results, as they got my hopes up...then to come crashing down.....
just remember....that this may well be a fibroadenoma for you.....try not to dwell too much, do you get results in 2 weeks? Xx
Hi all!
I've been reading a few of the ladies posts on here and 1st of all I would just like to send warmth and love all your ways. As we all know any health scare is awful and tormenting. Whilst delving into the unknown with the anticipation of only time will tell until you recieve your biopsy results with the all clear of the big C or that devastating news of a reatment plan, all dependable on each circumstances.
[@teacherandmam] I'm really sorry to hear of your news hun, I feel like they've done the same to me, telling me that theres nothing to worry about it's only a fybroadenoma and now they've told me that's not what they found in the biopsy, in fancy words!' It's so frustrating they shouldn't really tell you much but to wait for the results so we can have a clearer idea of what it is. It's really unfair to lift our Hope's up and even they know they cant be sure what it is.
I found a lump in my breast on the 29th of April (I've got quite small breasts 34C and I've breast fed 5 children) I am 35 years old and I tend to look after myself as a fitness professional. I waited to see if it went down after my period but it never. So I called the doctors explaining my symptoms, soreness in right breast, a small lump that seems mobile but doesnt hurt to touch but other areas around the breast hurt... a lil discomfort if anything.
Spoke to Doctors on the Monday the 10th of may I was booked in my Thursday the 14th of may.
I didnt know what to expect and turned up by myself, probably the worst thing I could have done. After the clinician took my history and said it had the characteristics of a fybroadenoma and said they would like to do an ultrasound scan on my right breast. So off I go for the ultrasound none the wiser.
Sat down and they lady was like yeah it looks like a fybroadenoma and took measurements and as she examined the rest of the breast found cysts present. Well these where were the pain was stemming from as I could see everytime she went over one it would hurt.
All of a sudden she says she would like to take a needle biopsy of the lump to confirm it is an fybroadenoma. I was on the table and like okay... I actually had a panic attack and had to ask to put my music on in my head set and to give me a minute. They were lovely got me water and told me to lift my knees up, feet flat. It was so scary and painful I had to get them to use more anesthetic. It was an aweful feeling of tugging after. They found it hard to reach as they said my breast tissue was very dense. I was then told two weeks for the biopsy results and sent on my way with the notion it's a fybroadenoma.
3 weeks later I'm still waiting, I've been experiencing all kinds of odd feeling of pains and needles and itching, stabbing pain just started occurring in my nipple. I called my doctors and the nurse practitioner who I've got a lovely rapport with basically told me it's most likely the stressful thoughts of worry I'm feeling in my breast and it's in my hurt and to nurture good thought and smells and warmth around the breast... lovely a nice holistic approach I get it. But hold on I noticed the lump because of the feelings in my breast and now it's in my head. Yes I understand it's an anxious time but wow there could be an infection after the biopsy!?!
Anyways I got the call today from the breast clinic. And they used theyrd jargon to tell me that they needed another biopsy as the one they have is non concordant. Then she softly said to me 'do you know what that's means?' Obviously I dont? So I said no all in a daze. She bacsically said that what they saw on the ultrasound is not the same as what they found in the biopsy and someone would be in touch to book me in for a biopsy.
What is that supposed to mean? It's not fybroadenoma? So what is it? I was in a state of shock I didnt get to ask any of these questions, more than say okay!
Now my heads messed up more than before. What have I just been told? It doesn't match what we thought it was? In lamon terms! Okay well I did think it was odd that at 35yrs old a lump appears by itself and nipple discharge. I'm really in touch with my body.
I dont want to worry so I've been keeping my self busy to take my mind off it, but I'm tired and I feel like no one understands my concerns as no one likes to talk about these things.
It's just a bit naff I need to now wait not only for the appointment but the results again.
Has this happened to anyone. And sorry I dont mean to scare anyone but I'm really quite scared of the unknown myself and I'm kind feeling like I just indirectly got told somethings not right.
Much love
Z x
Hi,
Sorry for the late reply. I spoke to the breast care nurses after my results and she said it may grow bigger and they can get to well over 5 cms. Mine is 1.8cm at the minute but I am going to keep a close eye on it as as you have said very rarely a tumor may grow inside. I would not worry about the biopsy they will have done it just to check because of its size.
Last week when I got the results it was the specialist nurse that called me. Even though they are keeping the clinics as clear as possible I think they are still calling people in in my area if they think. They need to explain more. X
Thank you! This has calmed my nerves a lot. They didn't seem really worried or tell me to prepare myself for bad news when I was there on Monday but I'm still worried that there is a tumour growing inside it that they couldn't see on the ultrasound.
I'm just trying to keep myself really busy over the next couple of days and trying to distract myself but my anxiety is really getting the better of me
Hi,
Yes it's horrible the waiting. One minute I was ok the next I'd convinced myself I was going to die!
Even after the results I was convinced they had got it wrong.
I'm definitely keeping an eye on mine and I won't hesitate to go back to doctors if I think it's changing.
They are also testing everyone at the moment my doctor said because of people being to scared to go to the doctors because of Covid.
Please come back and let me know how it goes or if you need anyone to talk to. Kerry x
I'm exactly the same, it's really horrible!
oh bless you, yeah that's the best thing to do
oh really? That's interesting but makes me a bit less worried about them testing me
I will do, thank you so much :) x
Hi,
So glad it's turned out OK. How big did they say it was? Mine is 1.8 cm at the minute. I don't know how they remove them hope someone can answer for you.
it's 5cm so pretty big!! When I first discovered it 7 years ago, it was 2cm so it's always been quite big.
I'm assuming from the googling I've done that it'll be a lumpectomy but I have no idea if it'll be under local or general yet and also, because of COVID, there are extra complications. So I have to be really careful for 2 weeks with social distancing and then 48 hours before I get a COVID test and as long as that is negative, I have to self isolate until the surgery
Mine was 4.5cm, found Nov 19 when I went to have a check on right breast (which turned out to be a cyst,).. Was shocked that they found lump on left side and had biopsy. It was fibroadenoma and after about three cancellations due to being bumped down priority and Covid I finally had it removed in July. General anaesthetic, in and out same day. Incision around nipple. Healing well...glad to have it over with. My mum had mastectomy and will be on medication the rest of her life and I have lost cousins around the same age.
Oh poor you that must have been a surprise! Glad it was nothing nasty and that you've had it removed now.
How long did they recommend to have off work/not drive/not exercise?
So, I have an update. I had surgery yesterday and wanted to but a post on for anyone who has to go and have the same, as I don't feel like I was told anything about going in, in terms of what to bring, what to expect etc.
At the moment things are slightly different because of COVID. I had to social distance vigilantly for 14 days and then self isolate after my COVID swab on Friday (op on Monday)
when I went in, I had to wear a mask right up until I was going into surgery but that was okay.
The things I wish I'd been told to bring: dressing gown and slippers for walking along to surgery
Things I'm glad I googled to bring/do: non-underwired bras (I got mine in Asda for £16 for 2 and they've been great), a button up shirt (I got an oversized PJ one from Tesco), my iPad and headphones to watch stuff on whilst I waited, and a book. You need to take all jewellery off and any nail varnish.
Questions to ask your surgeon: will I need a drain (I thankfully didn't but a friend of mine did and said it was a shock waking up with one in as no-one had said to her that was a possibility), how long you'll need off work (I got so many different answers to this leading up to it from various people on the phone, my surgeon told me 1-2 weeks depending on how I'm feeling)
What happened on the day: I got there at 7:30, had the normal checks like blood pressure, heart rate, temp, etc. And the nurse asked me a lot of pre-op questions and went through some stuff with me, and then I got visited by the surgeon who marked the correct side and where the lump was, and then the anaesthetist came to see me to explain what would happen.
I was second on the list and I think I got into the pre-op room at about 10:15. The nurse went with me from the ward which was nice as it was a familiar face. Then they checked my details again, then I got a canular put in and put under general anaesthetic.
When I woke up I was in the recovery room in a bed, with an oxygen mask on. They usually keep you there half an hour but I was in a lot of pain when I woke up so they gave me some IV painkillers and kept me there for an hour.
I then went back to the ward in the bed, they watched me eat and drink, and monitored all my vitals. I then got moved from bed to chair for a bit and then was allowed home at about 5ish. I was kept in longer as my temperature spiked so they had to monitor that and make sure it came down before I was allowed to leave.
I'm not in as much pain as I thought I would be, they gave me plenty of painkillers to take home with me, and you have to wear these v beautiful compression socks for 2 weeks (so that'll be fun if I'm back to work next week!)
if anyone reading this thread is having surgery and is worried, don't be, but feel free to contact me about it as well!

Hi everyone,
First post here from me! I found a lump in my left breast a couple of weeks ago and had my breast clinic appointment today where I have been through the same of many of you have - examination, ultrasounds and a fine needle biopsy (3x for good measure).
i too have received the "it's probably a Fibroadenoma" diagnoses but of course need my biopsy results to confirm this which should hopefully be in a weeks time.
i just wanted to say I'm wishing everyone here the very best whatever your outcomes have been, it's been comforting to read your posts and know I'm not alone.
Lots of love,
Emma x
Good luck Emma - we're both in exactly the same boat!! Let's hope we both get good news next week x
Good luck to you too CandyFlossQueen!
i have my phone on loud and by my side ... just incase. Even though I know it's likely to be near the end of the week before the result are ready! I feel like I can't think of anything else.
Hope your wound from the biopsy is okay, I took off my dressing yesterday and am sporting 3 wee holes and a couple of lovely bruises.
Best of luck, keep in touch x
Morning - are you getting your results by phone? I've got a face to face at end of the week.
My biopsies have left a bit of a bruise and small wound site- looks loads better now all the steri strips are off, looked like a big spiders web before and I was a bit nervous of what lay beneath but it's only a small cut. Still feels quite tender but I guess they have to go in quite deep?
im glad to have found this site and be able to 'chat' with others in same position, it does help x
Yeah they said they would call to save me going back in but the on the call they might make an Appt for me to go back in... I guess all results dependant!
yes, mines is the same too. Bruising is yellow so hopefully healing now.
Absolutely, there is comfort in knowing you're not alone.
sending lots of positive vibes your way x
Sending tonnes of them your way too - I know some ladies on here have been unfortunate not to have the outcomes we hope for one another, but let's stay positive together xx
Hi - just wanted to let you know I got the all clear its benign and nothing further needs to be done. Keeping my fingers crossed for you xx
Hi,
I've found this forum following my own referral last week.
I had an ultrasound and biopsies taken last Friday. I am only 24 and the doctor was more or less certain it was benign. However, took 3 biopsies to confirm so I am now awaiting the results.
However, the doctor did say to me the lump will need removing so I will need surgery to get it out.
Has anyone else had this? I'm not sure why it needs removing if he thinks it benign and it's making me worry.
They didn't give me much info and said they'll get me back in for my results but I just wanted to see if anyone else has had the same and can give me anymore info. Xxx
Hi
its perfectly understandable to worry, we all did, and nothing anyone says will change that. From what I've read/heard the doctors/nurses etc do seem to have a pretty good idea from the off what they are dealing with and only share that when they're confident (albeit I know on rare occasions some results might prove different) so yours does sound positive.
I didn't have to have my lump removed but a friend of mine had hers taken out. I wonder whether it depends whereabouts it is? I couldn't feel mine, it was picked up on routine mammogram, whereas she felt hers so perhaps that is the differential ♀️
you should have been given the number of the breast clinic nurses to call should you have any questions - they're really lovely and I would definitely recommend you give them a call
keeping my fingers crossed for a positive outcome for you xx
Hi, hope you don't mind me asking? I am 10 days after surgery for removal of my fibroadenoma, which was just over 7cm and attached to the chest wall, which has worried me. when did your scar heal? mine is not bleeding but still a bit open and sore I still have the tape attached but had a little look. Also when did you get your results? How long did they take?
than you x
