Endometrial cancer

Hello everyone - world turned upside down with a diagnosis of cancer in womb yesterday. Only went to see GP a week ago about water infection and scan yesterday revealed otherwise. Op arranged in 10 days time so all happening incredibly fast and I’m a bit she’ll shocked and I know I haven’t listened properly to GP etc about what is going to happen so I’m consulting Dr Google which is a stupid thing to do. If anyone has had endometrial cancer post menopause I would appreciate any information especially if it is known to spread. Thank you

  • Hiya

Thanks for your replies. I'm not normally a flapper and still not really, but it's there in the back of my mind. Just because I know what it can develop into to. It's not helping that the coil hasnt settled my periods down, when I rang the doc on Sept 15th they had it on screen to refer me and I had a letter within a week from the hospital to call them, so I did and now it's a phone consultation but no date yet. So I dont know, if that's moving quickly or not? I also know it can take years to develop into Cancer if it does at all. Xx

  • They put me on a two week program whuch is normal to be in safe side but try not to panic cross each bridge as you get to it and keep talking uf it helps I was worried and si was my husband and family its a nice feeling to be  given the alk clear but I think I read too much on Internet on how thucknesd of womb lining can turn to cancer scary stuff...try yi stsy positive the sooner tgey see you the more you will know. I was worked up because I had to go in on my own i have issues undressing and dressing and nurses u did nit know heloed me but my husband kniw whuch way is best and ti stop rest di more etc so thus civud thing us making things seem worse but support from family and friends and people who have been through it helps  I am glad things are moving fast less time to work yourself up hugs xxx

  • Hi Ladies just thought i would jump on the post hope you dont mind.

Back story, I have very heavy periods and started having heavy bleeding during sex. Went doctors LUCKILY and she could see something on my cervix. Refered to gyne very fast who could see something but didnt bleed when she was checking which she said was odd. Had scan on womb and coloscopy. Lining of womb was 12.5mm she didnt seem to concerned. During coloscopy she took biopsies of womb lining to rule that out causing the bleeding.

2 weeks later get letter to go back to the hospital 1 week later thought wow thats fast, then googled the consultant he was the cancer specialist.

Went for my app Luckily no cervical cancer phew BUT I have pre cancer cells in my womb thought oh not bad bit of treatment job done little did i know that there arr 2 types of womb cancer Type 1 which is slow growing and a coil can be fitted to help with hormones and can sort them selves and then there is type 2 which is aggresive fast growing and fast spreading and wont just go away. Of course i would have type 2

Only resolution is treating it the same as it is cancer so now at the age of 37 i am booked in for a gold star hysterectomy within the next 4-6 weeks to remove everything pre op next Tuesday so dont think it will be too long

I am very lucky to all ready have 2 children and a very supporting husband amd family. Im dreading due to covid doing it all alone in hospital but at least I will be alive

I am so lucky the consultant did those womb biopsys.

Sorry for the long post and thank you for reading.

  • Hi everyone hope you are all doing well

I have surgery on the 6th of November to have a polyp and the thickened lining of my womb removed and tested.

it all started October 2019 when I had a massive bleed and some sort of mass, me only being 24 I thought maybe it was a miscarriage, I went to a&e, was told nothing and sent home, I then visited my GP who was very reluctant to offer me a ultrasound, but I managed to get one out of her. I had 2 ultrasounds as they wanted to be sure, they told me I had a 7mm polyp and would need it removed and that's it. I was told around 4 months later that I was put on a waiting list but I was looking at over a year. My grandmother was very worried as she had womb cancer and was concerned and paid for me to see someone private, I saw an amazing doctor who put me on 20mg provera as I was bleeding consistently for 2 months and having week breaks in between. He hoped that the pills would help with the thinking of my wall to see if there was a polyp or not. I had a scan done early October 2020 and people soon became concerned when the realised my womb had a thickness of 24mm I was quickly rushed in to have the polyp and the thickness removed and tested. I am very worried about the chance of cancer because I have been experiencing great pain. Also worried about the surgery as it is my first surgery, all your messages and posts have been very informing and has helped me a lot, I hope you are all well xxx fingers crossed it comes back negative!

    stay well, stay safe x

  • Hi.

Iv been reading all what has been happening with everyone on here.I hope your all doing as well as possible .

I am 49 years old and only started having really heavy and long periods about two months ago, also I started getting pelvic pain and lower back pain.I spoke to a GP at my surgery on the phone(not actually seeing anyone because of covid)this was on the Monday 9th of November, she said she would refer me urgently for a transvaginal ultrasound.I had that done on Saturday 14th November and my GP rung me on Monday 16th to say I had endometrial thickness mass so she will be referring me to a gynecologist to get a biopsy and maybe a D&C procedure. What I forgot to ask was would I get this done quickly so not hearing anything more I called my doctors surgery to ask if there are any more details.I spoke to a very annoyed sounding receptionist who told me I need to be patient as there is a back log of people who need to be seen because of covid.Has anyone else had to wait a while because of covid to go for a biopsy?Tia xx

  • Wow your post is truly an inspiration and following my diagnosis of stage 1 today it's just the tonic I needed.  I had slight spotting for half a day, was sent to the hospital for biopsy, a blood test to check my ovaries, a polyp removed from my cervix which I thought right that's where the bleeding came from.  I had a CT of my whole torso, as I had free fluid on my transvaginal scan and they couldnt locate my left ovary.  After 2 weeks and still no news and attended my CT, an hour after my CT the consultants secretary rang to call me in. I was told my CT, bloods and polyp were all fine but I had abnormal cells in my lining which were type 1.  I am to have a total laprascopic hysterectomy on the 15th December and the surgeon will inspect my womb after to see if I need any further treatment.  I take it stage 1 is hopeful?  It is still a blur today but feel more relieved the speculation is over.  Thank you again for your fab post Susan 1953 xx

  • Hi,

You can have the option of gas and air if you find it uncomfortable. Take paracetamol and Ibuprofen 20 minutes before your biopsy as well if you can.  It will be over in a flash.  I think there is an option of local anaesthetic around the area too.  Good luck xx

  • Hi ladies!

Sorry to jump on post but I had a hysteroscopy today and a flexible sigmoidoscopy on Monday! My symptoms are much like yourselves: heavy bleeding (with A LOT OF CLOTTING) , painful intercourse, lower back pain, nausea, pelvic pain, pain in legs, severe anaemia and bleeding from the back passage.

My GP was great and I had scans which found thickened and heterogeneous endometrium so was referred to the hospital. The appointment took three weeks.

The doctor I saw today (before procedure) made me feel silly for being there and basically told me they wouldn’t find anything to worry about as I’m only 38!

Anyway they found a polyp, too large to remove at the time so I’m to go back to be put to sleep to remove it. I also had biopsies taken as I did on Monday with the sigmoidoscopy.

I know that most of the time polyps aren’t a cause for concern but I also know that when they are large risk of malignancy is  increased and also with the symptoms I have especially the worsening anaemia doesn’t paint a good picture.

can anyone offer some words of wisdom or reassurance? Xx

  • Hi I am so sorry about your diagnosis. I hope my question is ok.  I was told I had thickening of womb wall I am 54 stopped periods 2.5 yrs ago. Due to this had a transviginal ultra sound on Friday 2 days later got an appointment to see a Dr at Gynaecology Dept on 23rd? My friend said if I had cancer I would have got a quicker appointment and she also said if they had found cancer I would be referred to oncology & not a gynaecologist? Could you tell me what happened to you? Or what you think? Thank you Pam

  • Hi wonder if you could answer question please at ctvscab picked up i had a thickening of lining of womb I am 54 finished my periods 2.5 years ago. I went for a transvaginal ultra sound on Friday and on Monday I received a letter to see a Dr at Gynaecology on 23rd. I just think that was very quick and am a bit concerned I have had two blood transfusions recently due to very low haemoglobin levels and that is why I got loads of tests done under 2 week pathway for cancer I have already had a growth cut from bowel & sent to pathology. But the quickness of this letter worrying me. Pam
