Endometrial cancer

Hello everyone - world turned upside down with a diagnosis of cancer in womb yesterday. Only went to see GP a week ago about water infection and scan yesterday revealed otherwise. Op arranged in 10 days time so all happening incredibly fast and I’m a bit she’ll shocked and I know I haven’t listened properly to GP etc about what is going to happen so I’m consulting Dr Google which is a stupid thing to do. If anyone has had endometrial cancer post menopause I would appreciate any information especially if it is known to spread. Thank you

  • Hello!

thank you for responding- we are in the same boat. I am annoyed with myself for not going to GP earlier - I now look at symptoms and so many things should have told me to go to GP and I simply went cause I could not shift a water infection. May I ask what prompted you to go to GP? I had to wait ten days for my scan - but I drove home from that scan and as I walked through front door my GP phoned me to say I was on cancer pathway via NHS - go back on 17th but I cannot fully remember what she told me. I will call tomorrow and see if she will repeat what she told me on Friday.

I am 54 - post menopausal, can remember the GP telling me lining of womb was in excess of 10mm. I did have to call hospital and progress my appt for scan and they had the wrong address for me - apparently hospital has different database to GP!! Letter went to where I lived four years ago! So glad I phoned to find out what was happening. Take care to you too and maybe it’s worth phoning hospital to check your referral is there?

  • hi laney

    Appreciate your reply

I thought my `pains` were part of my ME / CFS, so did not really think they would be anything else, cos got sick of being told ` its the CFS / ME / FM`.  We also had a lot of upset with my dad recently being very ill very quickly and subsequently being diagnosed with leukemia - thankfully all is going well for him at the moment, with monthly check ups etc.  I had pelvic pain, which i put down to pelvic arthritis issues, hip arthirtis etc, but then started with agonising pain in my rectum at the same time as the frontal area.  When pains were bad i had frontal discharge which was pinky, and not pleasant.  I went to GP and had an ultrasound which showed a polylp and thickening of the endometria / womb lining .  Went for hysteroscopy, the polyp was too large to take out in an outpatients setting, so did biopsies.  A week later got a call on a friday aft to see consultant on monday.  Told womb cancer, biopsies `very abnormal` - treatment  needed within a 4 week period.  Went for MRI to see if spread to other pelvic areas , etc, thankfully has not.  Got my pre-op date and pencilled in surgery date - all just one day over the 4 wek period.   Hoping the hysterectomy can be done by key-hole, quicker recovery etc .  Thanks for your response, take care, x

  • Hello I've just come across your post hope you don't mind me asking but have you had your results yet ! I'm 37 and waiting on what's next after my scan on Thursday came up as thick womb lining and possibly 10mm polyp terrified

  • I'm unsure of my lining thickness I don't remember them telling me just 10 mm polyp possibly, on Thursdays scan , just waiting on what's next now not been told what's next just probably have to get it tested , hope you get sorted soon sounds like it's been a while for you , i can't cope with this horrible feeling on fear and anxiety!

  • Hi, no of course I don't mind you asking, no not had my results as yet... had a biopsy on 26th June, so just over 2 weeks by a day. Have you had a biopsy yet?

  • No not had biopsy for that yet but mines not looking great , it all started for me with irregular periods , bit of tummy and back aches , then what cause me to ring doctors was started bleeding after intercourse , had a biopsy of cervix said had a erosion took biopsy not had results of that yet , then had a scan the next day which was Thursday 2 days ago , and they seem thickening of womb and possibly 10mm polyp? Terrified isn't the word

  • My symptoms are very similar to yours, I had a very heavy bleed 2nd week of June which prompted the Drs visit but I have been irregular since December last year. I have erosion, and some of my cells that should be in my womb are on my cervix but I've been told that they look okay...

I am sorry you feel terrified... I am also feeling that way. Have you got family and friends to support you through this?

  • Yes I do thank you , I hope you do to , I still can't help but not eat sleep and worrying.  I have a 5 year old almost and just scares me not knowing if  I'm going to be here for him ! , I only had a ultrasound to find the thickening and suspected polyp, because I'm still healing from biopsy off cervix !x

  • Hi all, just found this post. Just over a week ago I sent an online consultaion to my doctors asking about slight bleeding after menopuase and if this was normal. I have not had periods for about a year now and sudden had a bit of bleeding, mostly water blood and nothing to be concerned about. I got a call from the doctor asking me to go into the surgery and she did an examination and then said was going to be refered for the 2 week fast track to the hospital. The last thing she said to me after the examination was that they would probably do a scan but mostlikely go straight for a laparoscopy. I've got my hospital appointment this week and it looks like it's a one stop shop so thats good. I was just wonderin if anyone had be diagnosed with after just spotting or maybe showing signs of a little discomfort. Should I be worried?

  • Wow your post is truly an inspiration and following my diagnosis of stage 1 today it's just the tonic I needed.  I had slight spotting for half a day, was sent to the hospital for biopsy, a blood test to check my ovaries, a polyp removed from my cervix which I thought right that's where the bleeding came from.  I had a CT of my whole torso, as I had free fluid on my transvaginal scan and they couldnt locate my left ovary.  After 2 weeks and still no news and attended my CT, an hour after my CT the consultants secretary rang to call me in. I was told my CT, bloods and polyp were all fine but I had abnormal cells in my lining which were type 1.  I am to have a total laprascopic hysterectomy on the 15th December and the surgeon will inspect my womb after to see if I need any further treatment.  I take it stage 1 is hopeful?  It is still a blur today but feel more relieved the speculation is over.  Thank you again for your fab post Susan 1953 xx

  • Hi,

You can have the option of gas and air if you find it uncomfortable. Take paracetamol and Ibuprofen 20 minutes before your biopsy as well if you can.  It will be over in a flash.  I think there is an option of local anaesthetic around the area too.  Good luck xx

  • Hi ladies!

Sorry to jump on post but I had a hysteroscopy today and a flexible sigmoidoscopy on Monday! My symptoms are much like yourselves: heavy bleeding (with A LOT OF CLOTTING) , painful intercourse, lower back pain, nausea, pelvic pain, pain in legs, severe anaemia and bleeding from the back passage.

My GP was great and I had scans which found thickened and heterogeneous endometrium so was referred to the hospital. The appointment took three weeks.

The doctor I saw today (before procedure) made me feel silly for being there and basically told me they wouldn’t find anything to worry about as I’m only 38!

Anyway they found a polyp, too large to remove at the time so I’m to go back to be put to sleep to remove it. I also had biopsies taken as I did on Monday with the sigmoidoscopy.

I know that most of the time polyps aren’t a cause for concern but I also know that when they are large risk of malignancy is  increased and also with the symptoms I have especially the worsening anaemia doesn’t paint a good picture.

can anyone offer some words of wisdom or reassurance? Xx
