Endometrial cancer

Hello everyone - world turned upside down with a diagnosis of cancer in womb yesterday. Only went to see GP a week ago about water infection and scan yesterday revealed otherwise. Op arranged in 10 days time so all happening incredibly fast and I’m a bit she’ll shocked and I know I haven’t listened properly to GP etc about what is going to happen so I’m consulting Dr Google which is a stupid thing to do. If anyone has had endometrial cancer post menopause I would appreciate any information especially if it is known to spread. Thank you

  • Hello!

thank you for responding- we are in the same boat. I am annoyed with myself for not going to GP earlier - I now look at symptoms and so many things should have told me to go to GP and I simply went cause I could not shift a water infection. May I ask what prompted you to go to GP? I had to wait ten days for my scan - but I drove home from that scan and as I walked through front door my GP phoned me to say I was on cancer pathway via NHS - go back on 17th but I cannot fully remember what she told me. I will call tomorrow and see if she will repeat what she told me on Friday.

I am 54 - post menopausal, can remember the GP telling me lining of womb was in excess of 10mm. I did have to call hospital and progress my appt for scan and they had the wrong address for me - apparently hospital has different database to GP!! Letter went to where I lived four years ago! So glad I phoned to find out what was happening. Take care to you too and maybe it’s worth phoning hospital to check your referral is there?

  • hi laney

    Appreciate your reply

I thought my `pains` were part of my ME / CFS, so did not really think they would be anything else, cos got sick of being told ` its the CFS / ME / FM`.  We also had a lot of upset with my dad recently being very ill very quickly and subsequently being diagnosed with leukemia - thankfully all is going well for him at the moment, with monthly check ups etc.  I had pelvic pain, which i put down to pelvic arthritis issues, hip arthirtis etc, but then started with agonising pain in my rectum at the same time as the frontal area.  When pains were bad i had frontal discharge which was pinky, and not pleasant.  I went to GP and had an ultrasound which showed a polylp and thickening of the endometria / womb lining .  Went for hysteroscopy, the polyp was too large to take out in an outpatients setting, so did biopsies.  A week later got a call on a friday aft to see consultant on monday.  Told womb cancer, biopsies `very abnormal` - treatment  needed within a 4 week period.  Went for MRI to see if spread to other pelvic areas , etc, thankfully has not.  Got my pre-op date and pencilled in surgery date - all just one day over the 4 wek period.   Hoping the hysterectomy can be done by key-hole, quicker recovery etc .  Thanks for your response, take care, x

  • Hi Niki,

i did read your post & your positivity is fab.

I just wondered how many of the ladies above fared. I think the odds are good for me, as she possibly spotted a polyp. It is the uncertainty tho.

    Best wishes xx

  • Hello - I was part of this thread back in April. After a visit to GP I was sent for a scan within a week and before I even arrived home after scan my GP phoned to say I was on cancer pathway and hysteroscopy booked for 7 days time. That procedure was brought forward and I was seen in four days - I convinced myself it was cancer. First hysteroscopy wasn’t successful as tissue from the thickened womb wall wouldn’t come away but they removed a polyp. All the time I was at hospital they kept talking about a mass in my womb. A second hysteroscopy was booked under anaesthetic the following week. The NHS was great but it always felt disorganised. I had to phone and chase things up all the time and letters were sent to my previous address. I had to phone for my results and after ten days they told me to call my GP; when I called my GP she said they hadn’t taken enough tissue but she was reading from my first hysteroscopy. I echo what we all say on here - it’s the waiting that drives you mad. The process lasted 11 weeks from initial GP visit until I got a letter to say biopsy was clear - just have a womb full of polyps and thick lining. I have not forgotten the fear of that time and have changed lots of things in my life since that time - have just come back from a holiday in Vegas! Cannot thank NHS enough for the speed i was treated even if it was a bit disorganised at times. I feel lucky that I was clear and that I’ve had a wake up call that this isn’t a dress rehearsal. My GP has hinted I should consider a hysterectomy in the near future as she feels the womb lining will keep thickening.  So I wish everyone in this thread well  ~ sorry if I sound evangelical but it was a big wake up call for me and my life since April has completely changed.

I’m going to unsubscribe from this forum as it’s for women  who are going through this now. I found the charity The Eve Appeal very informative during my 11 weeks and I would recommend it to anyone going through this process. Any weird changes after the menopause - always check with GP. I openly talk to all my menopause friends about bleeding/spotting now (must drive them up the wall) but women need to be aware of subtle changes and not just think it will go away or is part of menopause.

Hope you all have good news; fast treatment and treat yourselves well during the process.

  • hi niki

just thought id check in to see how youre doing and if youve had your results, i hope youre getting suport from people close to you

i went for my appointment on thursday, turned out that they didnt have the time to do the biopsy and it was just to make sure i was seen within the 2wk pathway, so im booked in for my biopsy on wednesday now, more waiting, then waiting for results, such fun!

trying to keep positive but it is hard and like you im finding myself very tearful over the most ridiculous thing!

    hope youre ok

    sally xx

  • Hi Sally

I was thinking about you last week wondering how your hysteroscopy went. I didn't want to keep asking:-).

Oh no!  that's such a dissapointment, after all that waiting they only called you in  for a chat. So are you now booked in for this Wednesday?

I am still waiting for my biopsy results. The saying goes...... no news is good news !!!! I hope and pray this is the case.

I have booked an appointment to see the GP next week for my bad back so i will ask about the biopsy results.

My immediate family are aware, however I am not openly talking about the situation, or my emotional state. Like I said, everyone is in their own bubble struggling with their own battles. I have good moments and then there are moments when i start planning for the weeks ahead, only to stop in my tracks, because i dont know what will be happening. Will I need more tests, will I need surgery, chemo, radio everything is uncertain and on hold!!! Then one thought after another takes me on a downward spiral. I can deal with things once i know. I just wish the results could be made available a lot quicker

2 weeks after my hysteroscopy I am ever so slightly spotting. No pain but im sure I do feel the mirena coil or maybe im just imagining it.

Please do let me know how it goes on Wednesday. Wishing everything goes well for you.

    All the Best

    Nikki

  • Hi Sally

How are you? Hope your  hysteroscopy experience wasnt too traumatic

    Thinking of you.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Nikki

Sorry I meant to post last night but fell asleep!

It was very painful, took 2 attempts but I'm so pleased I persevered as it turns out it's all perfectly normal the consultant didn't even bother taking a biopsy as she said it was all healthy

She was disgusted in what I'd been told by he gp and is putting in an official complaint about it! She said all I should have been told was it was a possibility but that it needed more investigations. I shouldn't have been told it was and then shown the different treatment plans for the different grades!!

As you can imagine I'm over the moon and have slept soundly for the first time in a few weeks

I will check in to see what your results are and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's also good news

Thank you so much for your support on here

    Sally xx

  • Hi sundial, MY first visit to this site. Had a full hystorectomy  due to cancer found in womb, now all clear, all went really well, and trying to decide about Brachytherapy and the after effects re. Bladder and bowel. How was it for you?

N.b. Wish all you brave ladies all speed for a successful recovery, big hugs xx

  • Sallllyyyyyyy thats fantastic news i am so happy for you honestly.. Wish there was a dancing emoji I could use lol.

What a relief, a whole weight lifted off your shoulders. But all that waiting, such an emotional roller coaster of feelings.  Yes the consultnt is doing right, i dont think the GP explained the process correctly, It could have been worded correctly.

Me, well im still waiting........... I'm back at work this week so trying to bury my head in all the paperwork.

    I will keep you updated.

    Thank you for your support.

    Best wishes Nikki xx

my womb lining biopsy did not hurt, just slightly uncomfortable, like a crampy feeling and a slight tug of the lining, told to `cough` when took sample.

  • Bless you thank you for replying, that gives me hope. Thank you so much, its nice to read all the people who understand your fears etc. Thank you again

  • I have posted previously as I was post op following a hysterectomy for endometrial cancer on 8th Oct and awaiting histology reports to see if further treatment, eg radiotherapy was required..

I have a six week consultant appointment on 18th Nov but did not want to wait so long for the result. I e mailed my cancer nurse at the hospital to request that she let me know ASAP if the result came through.

They have a multi disciplinary meeting with relevant people to discuss each case and decide on the way forward once the result is through.

The specialist nurse phoned yesterday to say that they had managed to eradicate the cancer with the op alone and I need no further treatment. Massive relief.

if you are waiting for a result phone or e mail to chase it up.

Also tell all women friends and family to go to their GP for any changes in their body however small,

I had the tiniest whisper of staining on my pants, post menopausal. It would have been so easy to ignore or to "wait and see" but I went straight away and caught it at what has been finally diagnosed as stage 1, grade 1. It was caught so as soon as it possibly could have been.

We all have family committments, work responsibilities, plans or head in the sand attitudes that make us put things off. I had my daughters wedding BUT putting off checking potential cancer risks the disease progressing and being much worse in the long run.

I have had a lucky escape and look forwatd to continuing in good health for many years to come.

  • Hi,

You can have the option of gas and air if you find it uncomfortable. Take paracetamol and Ibuprofen 20 minutes before your biopsy as well if you can.  It will be over in a flash.  I think there is an option of local anaesthetic around the area too.  Good luck xx

  • Hi ladies!

Sorry to jump on post but I had a hysteroscopy today and a flexible sigmoidoscopy on Monday! My symptoms are much like yourselves: heavy bleeding (with A LOT OF CLOTTING) , painful intercourse, lower back pain, nausea, pelvic pain, pain in legs, severe anaemia and bleeding from the back passage.

My GP was great and I had scans which found thickened and heterogeneous endometrium so was referred to the hospital. The appointment took three weeks.

The doctor I saw today (before procedure) made me feel silly for being there and basically told me they wouldn’t find anything to worry about as I’m only 38!

Anyway they found a polyp, too large to remove at the time so I’m to go back to be put to sleep to remove it. I also had biopsies taken as I did on Monday with the sigmoidoscopy.

I know that most of the time polyps aren’t a cause for concern but I also know that when they are large risk of malignancy is  increased and also with the symptoms I have especially the worsening anaemia doesn’t paint a good picture.

can anyone offer some words of wisdom or reassurance? Xx
