Breast cancer diagnosis 27th May - I hate the fact my life is no longer under my control

Cried when they told me, now I  am numb, waiting on my first appointment to discuss way forward.

Starting to tell family and keeping busy as there is little I can do for now.

I hate the fact my life is no longer under my control.

That I can't plan anything or continue to book clients in the next 6 months.in my business

I hate the fact that am now 'the one' with cancer.

  • Hi Mintymo.

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It does feel as if your life is not your own when you get a cancer diagnosis. Everything happens so quickly. You will find it all a little easier to cope with once you have a definite diagnosis and can start with surgery or treatment.

Can you get anyone to manage your clients for 6 months? I had to do this and it worked very well.

Try not to think of yourself as the "one with cancer" - the more positive you can be throughout this, the better you'll cope. It won't be long until you get rid of the cancer, then you should be proud of the fact that you've faced this challenge, met it head on and overcome it!

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Mintymo. Diagnosed same day as me! Now I'm waiting on results of CT scan and punch biopsy to see if it has spread. Scares me all this waiting. I just want to have a treatment plan in place so I can feel.in control once again. I'm HER2+ and apparently this one grows quickly...what does "quickly" actually mean? Having good days and bad days and really trying not to think about the what ifs but goodness its hard xx

  • Hi there, did you get the CT scan after your biopsy? I now have an appointment to see  the breast surgeon next Tuesday. I assume I will be told more about my Hormone receptor and HER2 status then. All I was told it's ductal and that's it. Not been in control is what scares me too.  It's great to have someone who is going through this at the same. I feel uncertain about my short term future. Can't make any plans yet. I am feeling numb, yet the first thing I think of as soon as I wake up.....I have cancer...

    Good to talk thanks

  • You're very welcome. Yes CT scan came after, to see if it's spread...results may be 2 weeks away! I don't feel unwell but know once chemo starts I will...not looking forwsrd to it, yet need to start something ...if you know what I mean..

  • Are you having chemo before surgery?   Where you born in 1958?

  • Morning,  yep born in 1958. Chemo first I think. No definite plan yet as still waiting on results to see if it's spread. They did say chemo first initially though..I've bought a wig already lol as losing my hair is my biggest fear. X

  • Born in 59.

Yeah losing my hair is my biggest worry too. Could you try scalp cooling, or is that not offered?

  • Hello Mintymo,

your post heading re no control struck a chord with me having previously faced and overcome a stage 4 diagnosis.Whilst l appreciate what your words convey and the significance they have on your life, it means your direction of control has changed, not lost if you choose it not to be.

Your focus now shifts to controlling how you face and defeat this new challenge and what you need to do to achieve this, not a loss, just a necessary redirection.Gain strength through adversity and push through to a stronger you

Move forward gently with the strong determination you posess to achieve the outcome you desire,

    David

  • Not sure yet but I'll try whatever they offer x
