New diagnosis: was diagnosed with ER positive breast cancer in December, now it's turned malignant

Hello

I was diagnosed with ER positive breast cancer in dec, had 3 chemos and everything was going really well. I did have a leison on my spine they were keeping a look at. ANyways half way through treatment started with a pain in my side they thought I’d pulled a muscle, but I could also feel this thing on my spine getting bigger. Had an MRI  and now it’s turned malignant. All my medication is changing and I will be on them indefinitely.

so it doesnt look like I am going to ring the bell after all. I am utterly heartbroken and really struggling to come to terms with it. I am 45 two kids and all my life ahead of me. I have literally cried for 5 days solid and I was always so positive. I am scared this time and don’t know what to do with thee emotions xx

  • Hi Annette79,

What a devastating blow it must have been for you to find this out especially when everything was going so well. At least the lesion on the spine was being monitored and you did well to flag this pain in your side and to mention that you felt this thing on your spine was getting bigger but I am so sorry that the MRI flagged that it was malignant. You are having to adjust to so many changes all of a sudden as well as your medication changing and it must be so hard for you to feel that they won't be ringing the bell just yet. You are indeed very young and the news must have been upsetting and I hope that these mets were caught early and that the new medication and treatment will be effective.

If you feel you are struggling with how you are feeling emotionally at the moment, get in touch with your GP and mention the impact this is having on your mental health. Your doctor will be able to guide you and will have suggestions that may help you feel emotionally better. It's completely understandable that you felt like this and cried and it's normal to feel scared as there is still a lot of uncertainty ahead and if at any point you would like to talk to one of our cancer nurses, you can contact them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I have also slightly changed the title of your thread to include more information about your current situation. This will hopefully allow other members who may have had the same diagnosis as you to spot your thread more easily and respond with their own experiences.

You are not alone here on Cancer Chat and I will now let other members of our community come and say hello and share their stories with you.

    Best wishes,
