Feel scared and lost

Am 72 and just diagnosed with breast cancer after biopsy, awaiting follow up and treatment plan appointment next week. I live on my own - my wonderful son has his own cancer problems and is 300 miles away - am lucky to have good friends locally but still feel alone. I thought I was a strong person but realise now Im not and am constantly anxious . I think it could help me to be in contact with others who have been on this path, and hope that at some point in the future I can help someone else. Just now I'm finding it hard to just get through the days until my appointment, let alone thinking any further.

I'm so grateful to anyone who might read or reply to this post.

Thank you

  • Hi Viorrey, sorry to hear that you had to go through thus on mire than occasion. Hearing your story gives so much hope that it can be beaten. Xx

  • Believe 2 you are not alone. Please keep posting on this site. I have received so much support in the few days I have been communicating here - there are great people out there who understand and can help with advice and kindness.  With my best wishes to you xx

  • Cancer can be a lonely place but try and keep positive and use these forums to speak to others in the same situation as you.  It really does help.  Sending virtual hugs to remind you that you’re not alone xx

  • Thank you Jolamine . I had a mastectomy.  The tumour was close to the chest wall and I think that my breast was so small that a lumpectomy would have been difficult.  My chemo had been stopped after my second time as it made me so ill and my oncologist was concerned about bowel issues. I was quite happy to have the procedure done.

The operation went well . Recall from last mammogram on other breast  but it turned out to be calcification.  A huge relief.

I'm glad you are doing so well .

    Very best wishes

    Voirrey

  • Hi Voirrey,

I felt better after my mastectomies, as I felt that as much as possible had been removed and there was less chance of recurrence. I am glad to hear that you were happy to have the procedure done too. Did you have any reconstruction? What a pity that you had to stop chemo. I see that you are now on annual monitoring. Is there any immuno-therapy that might help?

You must have been worried when you got a recall for other breast. I'm so glad to hear that this was just calcification and know what a great relief this must have been.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • It's a journey no-one wants but many of us have to take. You are not alone. So many people here will be sending their love. I find it helps to take things in small steps. Look after yourself. X

  • Bless you Shirley, I'm glad I found this site and I really appreciate your post. There is so much about cancer in the media at the moment I think it becomes overwhelming. I have an appointment tomorrow for biopsy results. Scared, but need to know what to expect after a long wait. How about you ? Where are you on the journey ?

Thanks for caring, you look after yourself too and I hope you have all the love and support you need. Suze xx
