Her2 positive

Hi

I have just had a lumpectomy 1cm lump found , operation was a success and all markers fine apart from her2 positive.

I have looked at statistics and with chemo the difference is 2 per cent , I am so undecisive as to what to do as really what I need is herceptin  I believe but I am not allowed to have this without chemo.

My head is telling me one thing and my gut telling me another

I would like to hear from people with the her2 positive diagnosis who

1 had chemo

2 who decided not to have chemo

As with or without there are still no guarantees

I have been researching and still keep coming back to the 2 percent on the statistics

Undecisive if one of the nurses could also comment  I would appreciate  it. I've had so much information  in such a short space of time and my care has been the great from NHS,  just this decision is a very hard one .

Thanks

  • I'm so glad to hear your operation was a success Goldilocks. That must have been wonderful news to receive although I'm sorry you're having a tough time deciding whether to have chemo or not.

Hopefully some of our members who have faced the same decision on their journeys will share their stories and advice with you soon but as you said you'd like to hear from one of our cancer nurses as well, I'm going to give you their telephone number so you can discuss this with them in more detail. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and will do all they can to help.

I know this will be tough but I'm sure when you are ready, you will be able to make the decision that's right for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello,

I was Her2+ ....for me personally I really needed to know I had everything possible to avoid reoccurrence.
    lumpectomy

    chemo

    herceptin

    rads

    hormone inhibitors

    bisphosphonates

Of course I do realise this still may come back but at least I'll never look back and wonder if I could have done more.

Good luck in your decision making love, I know how hard it is x

  • Hi

Thank you for your reply , the decision was taken out of my hands and I will not be having chemo as my heart was below the recommended  percentage by one so decision made , I do feel relieved and my son who has been my rock is happy that I am not going through the chemo as he attended every appointment.

I feel so much better today catching up on some sleep and await my bone density and radiotherapy  appointments

I know it can return at anytime ,

Good luck and thanks again for your reply
