Capecitabine chemo tablet

Hi, is there anyone on this tablet at the moment?

Parents
  • Hi. I'm on Capecitabine Tablets.   Is that the same thing?

  • Hi how do you cope with it? After the 3rd cycle it's given me non stop bowle problem non stop and my hands look like old lady's.  yes the same just spelt wrong

  • Hi morag    Please tell your chemo team what is happening to you asap.  They may be able to adjust your dosage or introduce medication to help with side effects.  It is important that this is sorted out quickly. Max x

  • Hi thank you for your reply. I've had to stop taking it on Friday evening, had enough of it. Only left the house yday but that was only hour. The tablets are still in me getting to flush out of of me although I'm still having the Bowle problems which is getting more annoying. I've spent whole week on the sofa and sleeping with no energy. Loosing weight too lack of eating. For my hands LRI recommend Udder cream but only can buy off net.

  • Do the chemotherapy team know you have stopped taking it and have they been able to help with  diarrhoea?  Loperamide is brilliant and you must get this sorted x

  • Good advice from Max56!  I am on my second cycle and coping well but my hands are dry and tight, I have had some red sunburn type tenderness on my toes and yes, I've got cramps and the trots!  I told my chemo nurses at the end of my first cycle and they gave me Loperamide which has really helped for the tummy cramps and diarrhoea.  I cream my hands and feet with Udderly Smooth Urea cream or Diprobase cream and I try to wear flat shoes as much as possible.  I'm on 2300 mg twice daily for two weeks and then a lovely week off!

  • Hi yes they know, waiting to go back on next Wednesday for my appointment what to do next. Loperamide what's that? Thank you xx

  • Hi my chemo had been reduced on my 4th cycle but even so not helped me as I would of been on my 5th when I stopped last week. Hope yours goes ok xx

  • Loperamide is a diarrhoea stopping medication and it is very effective and taken properly will stop this within hours and also stop the pain.  You probably need your fluids checked too if you have had this a while - it can be dangerous if ignored.

I found the hand and foot problems difficult on capecitabine but must say it was an effective drug.  Love to Sings dosage is quite high and I think I went down to 1500mg x 2 a day in the end so I could tolerate it.

Good luck - I know what a worry these things can be x

  •  Hi, actually just checked yes I've been taking that too. Does work although still going to the loo. Every time I get checked at hospital with bloods, they come back fine. I do drink water all day, my salt levels and vitamins are low too but have tablets for that.  have notice since being off tablets my hands aren't peeling as much although very dry.  Would be amazing if we could be normal xx

  • Gosh wouldn't that be fantastic!  Glad you have loperamide but I am not sure you are taking it properly because it will definitely halt things with help - why not give your cancer nurse a quick call?  I was told it was ok to take 2 straight after an episode and another 2 if more followed.  After that just one!!  It really works well but you just need some medical advise from a professional who is dealing with your case.  Try and sort it for the weekend x

  • Yeah I know it was very hard for my mam with the constant trips to toilet, like the others have said the Loperamide can help, my mam hated any tablets full stop, she was prescribed them but wouldn't take them, it was always on a morning when she would be rushing to the loo, you need to stay hydrated, drink plenty of water, my mam used to drink green tea, full of anti oxidants, and she swore by manuka honey, I can say the whole time through out her illness, her bloods were always ok, she never had any delayed chemo due to low blood counts or any infections
