Hi Jennie I am so sorry to read this.  Can they not try a different type of chem to reduce the size of the tumour.?  I had a lumpectomy then chemo and then radiotherapy.  My tumour was quite big at 4cm but because I have large breasts they could do the lumpectomy.  I know what you mean, cancer can feel very lonely.  Are you having reconstruction at the same time?  Good luck for your operation next week, please let me know how you get on.

Hi Jennie, I understand how you feel.. I had a mastectomy  5 days ago with a reconstruction at the same time.  Just one overnight stay then home with a drain.

Have they offered you reconstruction?

No chemo or radiotherapy  though.  

What I can say is the all the hospital staff are wonderful and I would encourage you to speak with your Breast Cancer Nurse  and tell them if your concerns. There is lots of support out there.

You will come through it as am I.

It sounds as if you have had a hard time to get a diagnosis and I am sorry for this. It is unfortunate that chemo hasn't worked for you, but I'm glad to hear that your surgery is coming up soon. I had a lumpectomy, which was followed by a double mastectomy the following year. If it's of any consolation, I recovered easier from the mastectomies than the lumpectomy. It will be a challenging time for you, but it's all "doable" and you'll soon feel better to know that the cancer has been taken away. Do you know what type and stage of cancer you have?

It is now 16 years since I was first diagnosed and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life and I hope that you will too. This can be a lonely time. I'm glad to hear that you have the support of family. Now that you have found this forum, you need never feel lonely again. All of us on this site know what cancer does to you and we are always here for you.

Hi thanks so much for your kind words its stage 3 hormone breast cancer and its looking like it was caused and being fed by my contraceptive implant which has now been removed but hormones in my body still feeding it im so scared about surgery as you read all horror stories about it 

Hi so sorry to hear what you've been through there will be no reconstruction until later on down the line as i have to have other treatments after surgery x
