breast cancer to liver

Hiya everyone

I got diagnosed with triple neg breast cancer back in September and have had the lump removed and a few lymph nodes ,the lymph nodes came back clear and i am now waiting to start chemo. The chemo has been cancelled less than 24 hours before twice now because something about hgb levels and high liver function and now the oncologist wants an ultrasound on my liver ,his exact words were I don't want to say it has spread to your liver but ...... very helpful  my question is can it spread to the liver without infecting the lymph nodes I was wondering if anyone knows

  • Hi Buffynoodles,

I know it's almost impossible, but my advice would be to try to hold on worrying too much until you get a proper diagnosis.

I may be wrong, as I am not medically trained, but I think there might be other things that can affect liver function and hormones etc. Perhaps one of the nurses might comment on that?

Distraction can be a useful way to deal with the time between appointments. Planning fun things and keeping busy, surrounding yourself with people who love you and who will handle it if you cry.

Wishing you all the very best, and keeping everything crossed here that you will get reassurance at your ultrasound appointment. Please do let us know how you go.

    Huge hugs,

    Mary

  • Hi Mare

    Thank you for your reply

It's just so hard to keep positive, normally people describe me as high spirited but the news just keeps on getting worse ,first it was just a small white spot but don't worry, then it is  cancerous but don't worry because it's manageable, then oh it's  triple neg but don't worry it's only small then it's chemo but don't worry it hasn't got to the lymph nodes so hasn't travelled and now it may have got to your liver. It seems one thing after another and this is all before the chemo even.

I know that there are people worse off than myself and I am sorry for venting but I am single and don't live with anyone so i don't really know who to turn to but again thank you for your reply, I know you are right

  • Hello buffynoodles,

Sorry to hear you are having a longer journey with your visitor, but good to hear your oncology ,team are all over it. It would be good if cancers came to one spot and just stayed there, annoyingly they do like to go travelling and delay doing so which leads to a scenario that you describe and l have gone through, so l well understand how frightenly frustrated you can feel. Fortunately my visitor went on holiday to my liver from my bowel, which meant surgery and chemo/radiotherapy gave me a cure.

After an often physically traumatic journey of four yearsl am now well out on the good side.l thankfully realised from an early stage that l could do nothing to alter the diagnosis and could only potentially affect the subsequent outcome, sol was determined to give the the cancers effects no assistance whatsoever in any mental way at all. For me early acceptance that it might prove fatal was the key,and from there on everything was positive.

l Am sorry to hear that you live alone and it is important to have help and support around you. l discovered my local Maggies centre that was located in the hospital grounds that l received my treatment from.Since l live on an offshore island l was housed in a residential block whilst undergoing chemo ect,and the centres are a place of both immense tranquility and huge support so l would reccomend you find if ther is one in your area from their website. It helped so much to pull me through and really made the difference, but you should see for yourself,

                                                                         Best wishes,

                                                                                                David
