The waiting game

I'm so glad I found this forum and now know that waiting for results is difficult for everyone at times I think I'm just a negative person but it seems the waiting game is tough.  I had duct ecstasia around 8 years ago with no reoccurrence.  I recently decided I would get the lump checked behind my left nipple but wasn't concerned as my nipple has been inverted for 8 years and I fully expected to be told it's duct blockage again.  Came as a shock to find that's not likely. .  3 biopsies on lump and one in Lymph node.  Words used like worried and highly suspicious during consultation.  To be honest I'm in shock that awful sick feeling in your tummy and another ten days till results appointment.  I asked some direct questions but obviously she wouldn't commit till results are in but in her experience I will be having treatment. Keeping as busy as I can but an emotional wreck right now. Relieved to hear this is the norm for most of you awaiting results.

  • Hiya

I am new to the forum and I am so worried as well.

I found a lump on my right breast a couple of days ago and i have an appointment with my gp next Thursday...the waiting game is the hardest ...I cannot stop crying and thinking the worst...it is really hard .

I hope you get some great results .

  • You too it's a worrying  time for sure.  I feel exactly  the same.  My best day this week as so busy at work.  Distraction  seems to be the best thing right now. Hope your results are good too x

  • Hi all,

I'm so glad I found this forum - it's been so reassuring to see so much positivity!

I've been diagnosed with breast cancer on Friday, after receiving my mammogram/ultrasound/biopsy a week ago, and it's been a whirlwind of emotions. I'm 30, just got back from my honeymoon and this is definitely not how I envisioned we would start our marriage.

I found a 2cm lump, and the ultrasound showed some of my lymphnodes were affected. Part of the tumor is invasive and part is non-invasive, but they have already confirmed its grade 3. My specialist has said that apparently duct breast cancer is very treatable (holding onto these words for dear life), but waiting for the MRI/CT scan is honestly so terrifiying. And I'm glad to read i'm not the only one who struggles with this!! I'm also still trying to comprehend that I'm going to be send to the fertility clinic as chemo might impact my fertility, so it's a lot to take in..

Trying to keep myself busy while I wait for the additional scans and hoping the news won't get any worse..

    Sending you all strength!

    X Elvira

  • Hi Elvira ,

Welcome and I am so sorry to hear about your news .

It can be really difficult I completely understand!

I found waiting for tests and results is the worse part .

I am trying to keep my mind busy with work , house work and talking to my hubby . He has been really supportive!

Also speaking to all these lovely ladies in the forum definitely helped .

Please  try and be strong !

Thinking of you and keep in touch xxxx

  • Bless you  it's very surreal especially  for you so young.   But yes I was told the same very curable so hang on to that.  Keep in touch and stay strong you got this girl. Sending you massive hugs.  Much love

  • How are you coping Hun? You have been in my thoughts.  I have spoke to my care team a few times when my mind has been running wild and they have been so kind and reassuring.  They have told me to speak to them when I get fixated on dark thoughts and every time they lift me and make me think more rationally so please speak with them if you too get too down with it all.  Sending love x

  • You're too kind! :)

I've had my CT scan and MRI yesterday/today and am meeting my oncologist tomorrow morning. So I'm hoping it will help to get some clarity on treatment! It is a strange feeling knowing that something is wrong in your body, but you just have to sit around and wait which I think fuels the anxiety even more.

The nurse today was ever so kind when I had my MRI, she calmed me down and told me to just focus on taking 1 step at a time. So I'm currently trying to take my mind off of things and keeping busy. I know me worrying about the results won't change the outcome so I'm trying my hardest to not think about it constantly.

Really pleased to hear your care team has been so kind and reassuring! The dark thoughts are always around the corner, but it is good that you have people you can turn too when the thoughts get too heavy.

Please know that we are all here for you too! X

  • Good news that everything is happening  so quickly sounds like you have a good team looking after you.  Just stay as strong as you possibly  can.  Company of friends prove a great distraction for me and someone making me belly laugh is like being given a hundred quid so fill your days with good friends and talk drivvle it just gives your head a break from it as I've found it consuming some days.  Please let us know how you get on.  We can do this

  • Hi Elvira114,

So good to hear that everything is happening so quickly .

It is really hard to stop all the dark thoughts but as you said when you have the support of people around you it is a good feeling.

Sorry my English is not that good so I am really sorry if I don't make any sense sometimes.

I have received  my letter for the hospital appointment yesterday for next Wednesday in the morning!

I am so scared what the tests will show and what will happen during the appointment.

I can stop crying  when I am on my own at home,  I can't concentrate at all.

I am sending ally love to you all.

    Have a good, restful night.

    Thinking all of you .xxx

  • Don't apologise, you make complete sense! :)

I know it's really hard when you're alone, I have the same and they are the moments when I can't stop either. But

I'm really glad you know when your appointment will be, at least you know when the next step is, and hopefully they will be able to give you some answers.

Is there anything you could do meanwhile to take your mind off of things, something that you enjoy doing?

thinking of you, sending all positive thoughts!! X

  • Thank you so much

I am trying to occupy my mind with work and house work when I am alone at home and then when my hubby and my little daughter is back home it is a bit easier .

My hubby is very supportive which is so good but I have not said anything to tye rest of the family.  When I see them and I feel so guilty bug I don't want to worry them.  I know they will start fussing and get very stressed and worried for me .

I am hoping  next week I will find my fate and have a plan of what will happen.

Thank you so much for your kind words.

Have a good night. Sending my love.xxx

  • Just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you and sending you all my positive thoughts for tomorrow. I hope you get some clarity!

    hugs x

  • Thank you so much Elvira114,

You are so kind . I am terrified and so stressed.

In a few hours I will find my fate .

I hope you are well with you and everything is going according to plan.

I will let you know later on what the doctor said.

    Xxx

  • Morning V1234,

I just wanted to let you know I was thinking of you. I hope your appointment went as well as it could go.

Please know we're here for you xx

  • Hi Elvira114,

You are so kind . How are you ? All OK with your treatment?

It has been a nightmare really.  I went on Wed to the breast clinic and the oncologist told me that he was not concerned.

I did mammogram, oultrasound and biopsy . They found 2 small lumps in the right breat that seem to be as tge radiologist said lesions.

They seem solid and have irregular shape.

I was so co fused and terrified when he told me . The nurse was in the room and gave me her card for any questions.

I could not believe it that in less than an hour my worls change so drastically!!

I was shaking!! I did not know if ot was all just a bad dream...

I have  an appointment on Wed to discuss the results and discuss a plan .

I don't know what to do. The doctor told me that he was surprised about the lumps as one of them he did not feel it .

I just need to wait till Wed and find out my fate ..

I hope you are having a nice Sunday afternoon.

I am taking my little girl and her friend trick or treating, even if I don't feel like it at all, but a nice walk will do me good.

I will let you know what will happen in my appointment next week.

    Please keep in touch .xxxx

  • Oh bless you, It does feel like the world is upside down as soon as they confirm they found something. I reacted exactly like you, I ended up shaking like crazy on the table when they did my ultrasound and biopsy.

I know this is easier said than done, but try not to worry too much until you have all of the details. Will they give you the results of the biopsy on Wednesday or have you already had those too?
Taking your girl out trick or treating sounds like a great idea, get some fresh air and distraction.

Please keep us posted, know that we are all here for you xxx

  • Hi Elvira114,

You are such a wonderful person ! I was so terrified, I couldn't stop shaking when they were doing the biopsy, my mind was racing !!

I haven't had any results yet but tye radiologist was saying that she thinks they are suspicious lesions ,both solid.

The oncologist was a bit surprised at the end but he said that we will discuss the biopsy results on Wednesday...

I did ask him if it is cancer then what will happen??  He said maybe operation and maybe treatment afterwards..

I was so confused when neither him or the GP felt anything during the breast examination.

Going trick or treating was good . So happy to see my little girl so happy with her friends.  They were planning what they were going to do next year for Halloween..this when it hit me and I started crying without them seeing me ..thinking..will I be here next year ??

Have a good night and please keep in touch it's so lovely speaking to you .xxxxx

  • The not knowing what it is and waiting for biopsy and scan results is the most horrible part of it all in all honesty. I think Jemimah said it in an earlier post as well, but as soon as you know what you're dealing with, a lot of the anxiety will go. Its the not knowing that drives us all mad :)

The most important part is that you went and had it checked out! Try not to think too much about what ifs until you have some answers, although I'm aware that this is so so difficult. I'm happy that trick or treating at least took your mind off of things, even if it's just for a little bit!

And if it is what you fear - please remember that they have so many treatments for breast cancer these days and you have a team of professionals behind you, who will help you every step of the way (and we will as well!).

I'll have all my fingers and toes crossed for you for Wednesday xxx

  • Thank you so much Elvira114

You so caring and do strong . I do get lots of confidence from you advice, thank you.

How are you ? How are you feeling?

Sending lots of virtual hugs xxxxx

  • I'm glad I can be of some sort of help :)

I'm hanging in there, I have received the results from my CT, MRI and PET scan and they have come back clear so very happy to know they couldn't find any spread!

I started IVF treatment on Friday so we can do embryo freezing before I start chemo, so it's just a bit full on currently. A lot of heavy conversations with the hubby, but we're both really happy they've sent us to a fertility clinic so quickly so if I do get infertile from chemo, we have a back up plan :)

But while I had my ultrasound they found something on my ovary, they think it's a cyst but had to do more bloodtests etc to confirm it's not also cancer. My oncologist doesn't seem to be worried since all my scans came back clear, but still something I could've done without at this point!!

I just really want to get started with treatment at this point, I'm ready to go into battle mode and just really hoping I've had my share of bad news for now!

Hoping Wednesday brings us both some good news xxx

  • Wanted to let you know I was thinking of you. I had all my fingers and toes crossed for your appointment today and that you would get ok news.

No pressure to update us if you don't to, but please know that either way we are here for you xxx
