Continuing the journey

Hi All

Decided to drop the 'month' from the title of this thread as time moves so quickly and the date becomes irrevelant so quickly.

Hubby and I both feeling pretty drained today but not because of his illness. However it is something that has made both us further stressed and 'outside our control'.  Prepare yourselves for a rant or look away now.

Having put in a long work day yesterday (both of us). I switched on my mobile on leaving work to find a message from the social worker for Mum (regular readers of my thread will know what we have been going through recently).  The upshott of this message was that the Social Services panel have decided that they can offer Mum a place at a sheltered housing complex but not the most local one. The call was to advise me of the panel's decision and to tell me that a visit will be arranged this week, preferably by Wednesday, for Mum to be taken to visit the flat and be told about the package of care and how it will work. They require a decision from Mrs K (this is how my mother is addressed in the follow up e-mail!!) by Friday otherwise the placement will be offered to another service provider!  Unfortunately this means Mum has little choice but to move further away (closest sheltered housing has no vacancy and they are  not willing to help fund where she has spent the last 9 months 'settling in').  The guilt I feel at being unable to cope with this is overwhelming, my hubby is very supportive and angry in equal parts and I am dreading the days ahead.  I am unable to take leave and my negative feelings towards her social worker would not work in Mum's favour as she needs to go on the visit with an open mind and the care home staff state she is quite able to make her own mind up.  If she agrees I will be unable to visit as regularly (my problem not theirs of course) but apparently the social worker will accompany her and I have asked to be kept informed.

Even typing this is making me sad/angry/frustrated and emotionally/physically drained.  I was due to visit Mum today but this is on hold until I have spoken to the care home this morning. Hubby says I should leave it till later in the week when we know what is going on and I suspect he is right (bearing in mind my physical upset involves many 'loo' visits (enough said!!)).

Sorry for all the negativity but just needed to get it out and try and get  myself together before I start on the phone calls.

Hope everyone has a good day.  Regards Julesxx

  • Hello Sarah,

    Thank you for your reply.

I would love to be of assistance however with not being at my best now for over 10 days talking is being kept to a minimum because of the severe coughing. So may be a little further down the line I can be of help.

I am finding the response of the site is slow and I just wondered if that was what was the cause of the multiple postings. ie people pressed a second or a third time when their post hadn't gone through. I know I might have done that the first time when I reported it. I have made sure that I have waited for the post to go through since and therefore have not had another multiple posting.

Thank you for your  good wishes.

    best

    Annabel.

  • Hi Annabel thanks for that advice I two have been sending and hitting the tab twice and two postes have gone, glad it not just me .Keep well and fit kind regards george

  • Hi Annabel and Urostar

    Thanks for your feedback.

I responded to the email where you suggested this Annabel and I did pass it on to our technical team, as I promised I would! I think you might be onto something there in relation to solving the duplicate posts mystery.

Sorry to hear you have been under the weather. I hope you are feeling better.

Urostar, I am so sorry about Ria. I'm sure she has had a wonderful life with you and how impressive it that you've given a home to all those poor abandoned dogs.

I hope you both have a relaxing weekend,

    Jane

  •

Hi Jane, RIA  is my fith dog from the RSPCA not the best my last one Bobby I had for over 11 years and she could swin like a fish as for bobby she will paddle then does a runner but she is my best mate we have just had a walk half hour cross county she loved it I will give two pils with her food and with luck I could have her a year or so .You know a good walk is better than  an hour in the gym.

     regards to all george

  • Hi George

Have to agree about walking (though never been inside a gym other than to look - well not since I was at school!!) and as I do not drive, do my fair share during the week. Most weekends I  now manage 2/3 miles though  not at any great speed as usually have shopping trolley in tow.  Wishing you a restful weekend and hope the pills help RIA give you many more such outings.  Jules x

  • Hi Jules,

Glad hubby's appointment went well this week.  I hope you enjoy your family lunch on Sunday and that having everybody around may entice hubby to tuck into his food a little more.  Enjoy your weekend and speak soon.  Hope x

  • Morning Jo

Hope you enjoyed that cuppa and seriously love the fact that so many come and chat on my thread  - we are a special community after all!  I'm afraid I missed out on the coffee but had a glass of wine after my bingo night out (won £15 so that's half a haircut paid for in time for Christmas!). Hubby did manage a slow walk to the pub with his good friend so thankful for that.  He is sleepy today but thats to be expected and as we have family for lunch tomorrow best that he rests.  Every day seems slightly different so the 'day by day' rule well in force.

Hope you are feeling okay and enjoy a peaceful weekend.  Chat soon. Jules x

  • Morning Hope,

Trust you are keeping well and coping with the 'Christmas term'. Trying to take a 'laid back' approach now to the eating/drinking and 'kitchen on 'open all hours' service if  needs be.  No two days are the same.  My late friend's husband popped in for coffee yesterday and we had a lovely chat and my hubby was awake and sociable - such a pleasure to see.  He managed a slow stroll with his mate last night for a couple of hours at the local and though weary this morning is just  managing breakfast whilst I have been doing prep for tomorrow's visit (decided on hot and cold buffet as its less formal  and easier with 9 of us).

We are back with hubby's GP check up on Tuesday morning, then visiting Mum and in the afternoon the dietician is coming to see if she can offer some solutions.  Steroids are also a possibility though hubby not keen to add to his medication, his consultant sees it as a short term 'lift' which may help especially with festive season approaching.  Have just bought him some more chestnuts which he enjoys .

Hope you enjoy a restful weekend.  Hugs  Jules x
