Hello just read your post ,sorry you find yourself on here  and going through the issues with your breast.

I also had evertything you have said you had at your breast clinic,five core biobsys ,3 from breast 2 from under my arm,and a marker clip put in,but I was told on the same day I had breast cancer. 

It was confirmed by letter a week later. 

The questions you could ask if it is  breast cancer are 

1.what type of breast cancer is it. ( there are many  different types, stages and grades) 

2,what can I expect, will I need an operation  and if so what kind lumpectomy or Masectamy. How long will the operation be,and will I need to stay in hospital, or will it be a day case..

3, What treatments will I need,  will I have to have  chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, or both, and if so for how long will each  treatment be and in what order,as some people have to have chemotherapy or Radiotherapy before operation, and some people have it after, some people don't need both  or either ,it just depends on size and type ,stage  of the  cancer.

4, what is the name of my proposed oncologist.  And when can I expect to see him or have a telephone consultation if I can't see him because of civud 19.

5 .who is my main breast care nurse ,and what is her email address  and what  telephone numbers   will I be given, ie breast care clinic, oncologist secretary number(  breast clinic number you may have this allready though).

6. Will I need ct scans, or bone scans .

7. If its not cancer, what is it...and what do you suggest as treatments.  ( it could be cysts,you never know)

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing this.  Not much I can add to Jassoscared’s suggested questions, other than:

Size/grading and type will likely determine whether lumpectomy or mastectomy eg last year  I was diagnosed with a 1.5cm grade 2 oestrogen based tumour.  Oestrogen based is one of the most common ones, thankfully mine was spotted early on a routine mammogram and was ‘contained’ so hadn’t spread to lymph nodes.

Good to hear you’re feeling relatively calm, I went into complete meltdown so admire your response.  Understand just what you mean about obtaining information in advance to try and prepare yourself for what you might be told.  

It does help to have a list of questions.  I was assigned a Macmillan Nurse who was fantastically helpful too.  They work closely with consultants at hospitals and clinics.

Think everything has been covered. I would just add, take someone with you. When I got my results they said they would call, but the hospital called to say I had an appointment that day at 4pm, so clearly wasn't going to be good news.

When I got to the appointment they asked me if anyone was with me, as they could go in with me (despite it being November 2020 and the Covid restrictions). I didnt think I  could so had no one with me.

The Breast Care Nurse, who I stayed with after the consultant delivered my diagnosis, couldn't stress enough how important it was to have someone attend those types of appointments with me. My sister has attended all further appointments with the oncology and surgeon.

I'm so sorry you were on your own when you received your news. That must have been so frightening and distressing for you. But so pleased you had your sister for later appointments. The radiologist and consultant really stressed the importance of bringing my husband with me. I'm not sure how it will work with Covid. They've said he might need to wait outside until I'm in the consulting room? 

I was copied into a letter today to my GP. It said that it was an irregular mass with calcifications. I'm not sure what that means really, but I'm sure they'll tell me next week.

Hi. Just reading your update. Mine is an irregular mass with calcifications. It's the calcifications that have meant the bit to be removed is bigger! Lump is 3cms. But the calcifications take it up to 7cms. From what I can gather, although the calcifications themselves are not cancerous, they can suggest that something is going on in cells around them?!?! So when occurring alongside a cancer diagnosis they need to account for them and take the area away too. I gleaned this from Google of course :))

Hi I am looking for advice, I have a very small area of dcis, but on Tuesday was diagnosed idc grade 2.  Because my dcis is just over 5cm away from my idc I am looking at masectomy I have chose with reconstruction.  The consultant was happy for me not to have an mri because I chose this and he advised it is small, plus I cannot feel it.  My scan on my nodes on 18.5.21 was clear, just awaiting my appointment with plastics for surgery.  Its hormone positive I am awaiting her.  Would consultant advised me if this was large. Thank you for advice x
